A Damp Morning Walk in a Cotswold Village Set in Stunning Countryside

- So, today we are out and about walking in the Cotswold village of Bagendon which is located in the county of Gloucestershire, England. The village is situated about 4 miles north of Cirencester. According to the 2011 census the village had a decreased population of 239 as in the 2001 census there was a population of 265.
The parish church which is Church of England is dedicated to St. Margaret and is a Grade I listed building. Originally built during the Norman era other parts of the church date back to 1460.
The novelist Hilda Gregg was born in Bagendon in 1868.
This video may seem dark in the first 10 -15 minutes, this is because filming commenced at first light. As the walk progresses the footage becomes lighter. Also, you may notice the camera skimming along the road, this was to give a sense of how small wildlife sees the world.
There are no hidden OAAW logos for you to find in this video.

The weather is part of the charm....I was hoping to get there sometime in the Autumn. It's my gift to myself, coming alone & people think I'm crazy, a 71 year old woman traveling alone to a different country but I can't wait!!! Ty for these beautiful inspiring walks!!! ❤

Another great walk. As I followed you along I was occasionally struck by the similarity of shots with another favourite series of mine: “Escape to The Country.” You pause briefly at 37.48 in, as one building catches your eye, and I almost hear the host from “Escape to The Country” triumphantly call out “Well, here’s property number one! A classic barn conversion set in 3 1/2 acres.”

Ha yeah, as long as the gate is not broken or stuck I always try to close it even if it was open to start with :)
But trying to open or close a gate gracefully one handed is a whole different story :D

Peaceful place
I don't want to sound like a scratched record but every time I see one of these videos in my subscription folder, I know I'm in for a treat. To see and hear those trees. Damn. It just raises the spirits. I don't want to say the same thing too much but I also know that interactivity matters on youtube. On a busy day, I often look at the length first and think when I have half an hour or an hour. That's why the longer the video the more likely I am to not get round to it for a day (depending on the day). But thanks for putting this stuff out there. I'm taking a second's break from it to write this because I just saw that beautiful upward look at the branches of a tree panning down to the view of the church with the bleating of sheep. Sheer joy.

Walk a beautiful walk and if it were evening time I would have no trouble sleeping after a stroll like this. Thank you, OAAW. The thatched roof cottage at the end of the walked just topped the video off beautifully and the gust of wind through the trees mid way made it seem as if your really there yourself. 👏🚶♂

I've wondered exactly that. The scenery is awesome but it is very desolate in places!
I am not too far from these places. I would say that OAAW goes out at first light so you can appreciate the surroundings primarily and not be distracted by a few more cars, the odd DHL van, a few people etc. etc.

Hi Sumana. It varies, depending on the time of year but majority of the time it is usually at very first light and at that time of the day, the majority of people are fast asleep, especially if it is on a weekend. Hope you are enjoying the walks. All the best to you.

Are the blue containers on the sides of the road for water collection? Beautiful walk I felt as tough I was there ! The stones the moss the sheep. I could live in any of these cottages and feel at home ❤️ interesting how it seems most residence has only one vehicle. Love from the usa

Hello. Thank you for your comment. I would think the church is active. I am not too sure about the roof material but to hazard a guess it might be reed. My guess for the blue containers is they might be used to hold salt /grit to put on the road when it is icy in the winter. Best wishes to you in Ukraine. Thanks again.

Appealing - cloudy, windy and you exploited each and every moment! You're delicious Sir🕶️. And adorable bleating surrounding the church, really throws us back in time. What are thou wearing Squire? As a Lady I've a tall pointy veil-y hat and flowing frock. Doth thou dawn boots with toes that curl up proper and handsome waistcoat? The church she has quite a drainage system, the liked never seen. And what rare bushes, hairdresser gave them dreadlocks. Here they be! The cutie-tooties, so well behaved singing just as we entered church ground, stopping when we exit, now they stand and stare, awaiting next command. I heard their leader bark "stand down, at ease, they're LEAVING for good!" Geesh, I wonder if these folks realize how lucky they are to live like this or whether it's just common cuz they're used to it. BoyHowdy, everyday I'd be trotting (🐎) the acreages forever dumbfounded I actually LIVED here. Every bench would have a worn spot that fits me backside. 🤔Me thinks, YES, I'd have a 2nd home here, 1 a cottage, here a RANCH kempt finely. I've learned, through you, that sheep have quite the decibals, carrying their bleats maybe ½+ mile away. Aye, another beacon, to call our minds towards they who came afore us, if not for them we wouldn't be here in their future. Again, Sir🕶️, how excellent you are, another unparalleled area! You're quite the busy man a'searchin'. Most impressive!
Thank you so much for walking with me today in Bagendon. I was a little concerned at first how this walk would be received as a lot of the houses are fairly spaced apart as well as set back from the road, but the beautiful views of the countryside really make up for it. What was I wearing? Nothing as flattering & elegant as your good self. Did you notice we walked counterclockwise around the church, it does look & feels strange doing it that way! Always tried to avoid that nowadays, give me a nudge should I accidentally veer off to the right! Maybe around the church has been prone to previous flooding I wonder. It would be a lovely place to live for sure, so many nice walks to be had in the area. I would not be at all surprised that a sheep’s bleating could carry as far as half a mile! They are lovely to see and watch at home in their fields of green. Thank you for your kind words, support & inspiration. All the best. OAAW

Why, yes, now that you mentioned, I did notice we walked around the church in opposite direction but logic figured it was necessary as path was lacking er other. 🤔 You seem to still have the same quirk I once did, (grew out of it somewhere along the way) preschool age: ifn I twirled in a circle or twisted a swing til it spun on its own with me in it, I'd immediately twirl or spin in the opposite direction for equilibrium; yep, that word popped into me then pea-brain from somewhere. I was desperate that I had to correct myself. Do you feel thataway on everything or just churches/cemeterys?
