  • A lot of people think the only way of becoming a solicitor is by going to university and law school. In this video, we will explain the various ways in which a person can become a solicitor in the UK.
    We address the typical Graduate Diploma in Law (GDL) and Legal Practice Course (LPC) routes, the Legal Apprenticeship, CILEx and the Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE).

    This is brilliant! where were you when I needed you ?? lol.. i have just successfully completed my LLB but wish I went down the apprenticeship route initially; if I had known. I am considering the CILEX route as it is much cheaper and a way to escape securing a training contract... which can be pretty competitive and the LPC £££££ ....
    I have incurred so much unnecessary debt for myself as I thought the LLB route was the only way to qualifying as a solicitor.

    Great content, watched all you're vids really helpful. I am in my second year of doing an LLB with the OU, I am interested in the CILEX route to qualification. It seems to be more suiting to me as I function better focusing on one main practising area of law, not to mention the cost savings. However I do have some concerns regarding it's credibility, do CLE's get the same respect/recognition as solicitors? Many people say they do but I just want to ask from you're perspective as lawyers, also how possible is it to qualify as a solicitor in the future after becoming a CLE? Sorry about all the questions you guys know you're shit so that's why I'm asking, keep up the good work.

      Thank you so much, glad you are enjoying our content! Cilex Lawyers definitely get the same respect as solicitors, when it comes to the legal profession it’s mainly about experience and if you’re good at your role, you’ll be well respected as you would be a lawyer too! You can also qualify as a solicitor after becoming a Cilex, you literally just apply to the SRA, provided you satisfy all the criteria ofcourse! Have a look at the SRA website for more information on that! xx

    1. Does pro bono work as a volunteer count as qualifying work experience for the graduate fast track diploma?
    2. can you cross qualify as a solicitor under SQE after Cilex Graduate fast track diploma?

    If you qualify through LPC/SQE and become a solicitor, you can re-register at the Irish Law Society for just some fee and become an EU lawyer. Is this possible with CILEX?

    If LL.b degree is from India, can I take CILEx level 6 through distance learning? Also, if already working as a legal manager in a private company in India, will be considered qualified employment?

    Hi ladies. What about old "mature" students. Is it ever too late? I mean for a 40+ year old or 50+ - what kind of starting out job could they expect or salary etc? Is it possible to open your own practice right after qualification?

    I was wondering if CILEx is recognised internationally. I want to start the course however I’m not sure if it would be recognised abroad as I do want to move to the US after qualifying.

    • @thelawprocess5856
      @thelawprocess5856  3 роки тому

      Hi Suniya, the CILEx course is based on UK law; therefore, you would only be qualified to practice law in the UK. This is the same as qualifying through other routes, as such the traditional training contract.

    I have done the LPC meaning i only need the 3 years qualifying employment now... how does this work? if i work for 3 years as a paralegal, i can qualify? or is there specific firms i have to apply who acknowledge the cilex route?

    • @thelawprocess5856
      @thelawprocess5856  3 роки тому

      Yes you can qualify if you are doing qualifying work as a paralegal! You will need to check with the firm you’re at whether they can let you do the CILEX route and sign you off!

      Look at the grade/course requirements of the university you wish to attend. Different universities will have different requirements and require you to study certain courses or achieve certain grades. If the only requirement from the university is that you achieve certain grades then you may be able to study any course at college as long as you meet the grade requirements.

    Can i opt LPC after LLM (i have graduated outside UK).. Please reply

    • @thelawprocess5856
      @thelawprocess5856  3 роки тому +1

      Hi, yes you can choose to do the LPC after the LLM. If you haven’t done the LLM already then most law schools in the UK now do a combined course of both the LPC and the LLM together. So you’ll do the LPC and also get a LLM at the end of it. BPP law school and university of law do this! I hope that helps x

    "Qualifying work" good luck finding that. It seems like no one wants to offer anyone a job without some level of experience. How are you supposed to get experience if you can't find a placement in the first place?

    • @thelawprocess5856
