    Our experience is so similar. I graduated LLB Law last year. My plan was to get a legal job and work for a year before doing the LPC. I wasn't able to get a job and i also found that most paralegal jobs required the LPC. So i started the LPC in January this year. The pandemic has low key been a blessing in disguise because all of our exams are now online and they're are open book. But i have soo much anxiety about finishing this course especially when it comes to finding a job. Hopefully it all works out 🤞

      Yeah wow our experiences are almost identical. It just goes to show how much more unis need to do to help their final years who don’t have vac schemes or TCs lined up otherwise everyone just ends up on the LPC out of fear.
      It’s great you get to do your exams at home, hope it all goes well and try not to worry too much about the job search. These things have a way of working themselves out 🙏🏾

    I would also suggest investigate the Legal Executive route to qualifying either as a Legal Exec or as a Solicitor. I did my law degree in 2006-2009 and my LPC in 2009-2010. My university didn't really discuss the Legal Exec path and made out that they were little more than glorified paralegals. This couldn't be further from the reality. Also, most firms will pay for the Legal Exec course for you.
    I didn't obtain a training contract until 2015 after years of paralegal work and temp jobs. I don't regret my path but I won't lie it was hard and I very nearly gave up along the way.

    Girl, this so sooo relatable. I tried to do LPC last year and I kinda didn't work out. I graduated in December with an LLB with some LPC modules that I passed but I'm not sure about what I want to do. I'm currently working as a Paralegal and I love to get a firm to pay for me to finish the LPC but only bigger firms do that I feel and they usually require good A Level grades as you said. Mine were average but I have a 2:1 degree 🤷🏾‍♀️
    Now that's I have almost 5 months experience as a paralegal I feel like I wouldn't have found the LPC soo difficult.

    • @rosaverse
      @rosaverse  4 роки тому +1

      Yeah I completely get it. Things make more sense once you’re actually doing it rather than just reading about it.
      Maybe try and use the paralegal experience you have to move to a bigger firm? Then once you’ve done that for a while and they know you they’d be more willing to fund you. I know that’s easier said than done. Sometimes having one of those professional paralegal certifications can help with securing roles at bigger firms. Honestly, I would try to exhaust every possible option before self funding the LPC.
      It’s not easy at all lool. Good luck though girl 🤞🏾🤎

    I also did my LLM LPS right after my LLB, 2017/2018 academic year. It was so difficult omg wish I did it part-time whilst working at a law firm. They never tell you the full truth about anything. They should have told us how intensive the course would be in our 3rd year of our LLB course. Even the training contracts, most people that got one was as a result of knowing someone. Law is very classist.

      I agree I don’t recall them speaking to us properly about the LPC for my entire degree. Thinking about it now, that’s crazy! There should be whole workshops and lectures dedicated to it. After all most people study law to become lawyers. And yeah it’s very hard if you don’t know someone.
      Hope it’s better for you now though 💜

Would’ve also saved a lot of people money as a lot of people dropped out due to how time consuming & intense LPC was. I hope you’re able to utilise your LPC soon. Wishing you the best with this career path 🙏🏾❤️

    Hi, thanks for your great video.
    I am currently in a similar situation to your situation in 2017. I am finalist LLB law, and I just finished my final exams and just waiting for my results. My plan was to finish the degree, then do the LPC and then come back to my home country (Bahrain), and apply for intentional firms (as they demand the LPC). So, you can say that I am not pursing a training contract.
    The issues are that I am not sure that I will get a 2:1, so I am a bit hesitant to do the LPC, because my marks might already not qualify me to work in these international firms in the first place. On, the other hand, I still feel I do not want to enter the job market now, as I lack a lot of social and work skills. And the LPC will benefit me either way, as I want to be a solicitor, plus I do not know a lot about other sectors/careers, you mentioned.
    This currently where I stand, I am not sure if I should do the LPC, but it seems the next logical step. Any thoughts?

    I AM SO GRATEFUL FOR YOUR VIDEO!!!!! I'm in my final year as a law student, there's the LLM option that you did too and i do the LPC but there is also the option that i think maybe is what i should consider. Like applying for training contracts (2024/2025) at law firms that will pay for the LPC/SQE to be taken either a year in advance or at the same time, i feel like if i do this then i won't waste money and go into debt but after i graduate i can try different sectors meanwhile with like graduate jobs so by the time the training contract/LPC time comes up i'll know more of what i want. Do you think this is a good idea because i don't have too much experience aside from vacation schemes? x

    Hello NYCT,
    Thank you for sharing your experiences and the lessons that you learned. I appreciate your brutal honesty and candour.
    Can any academic degree get you into project management?
    You have said that your LPC does not help you with your project management role, but does your undergraduate law degree do so?
    What do you like about project management?
    What don't you like about it (if anything)?
    FYI, I am 44, have a degree in languages plus a former teaching career of 13 years, have not worked for the last 7 years and am considering a PGDL (with University of Law, most likely) and wish to enter a profession other than law itself where I use my law knowledge (like teaching or HR or possibly project management).
    TIA (if you reply)

    • @rosaverse
      @rosaverse  4 роки тому +1

      Hey Gina, thanks so much for reaching out!
      First of all, I don't think I'm qualified to give you the substantive career advice that you probably need. But I will answer the Q's about my personal experience.
      The LPC doesn't really help me with my role as the LPC was designed as a preparation school for future trainee solicitors. So if you don't become a trainee, the LPC is not that helpful in terms of knowledge but it can help in terms of skills - interviewing, drafting etc.
      I like project management because I like planning and connecting different teams together to help client's achieve their goals. I guess the worst thing is that if things go wrong that are beyond my control, I am still accountable for it.
      In terms of qualifications, there aren't any specific degrees you need to have done because project management is so vast - from I.T. to marketing to finance to law. There are PMs in every industry. (I have a vid coming soon where I talk more about how I became a PM)
      Like I said, I can't advise you when it comes to the GDL/teaching stuff as I'm not remotely qualified but if you already have had a teaching career I'd say you have lots of existing knowledge to go back and teach. With HR/Project Management, there are tons of professional certifications like SHRM-CP®, PRINCE2® and PMI-ACP® that range from like £300 - £1,500 that would boost your knowledge, are very respected and WAY cheaper than a GDL. Again, I don't know anything I'm just throwing ideas for you to consider.
      Whew, that was long! Hope I've been clear and helpful and apologies for the delay in responding x

    Hi I love your video!!! But I would like to ask something!!
    I am a solicitor aspirant with a one year paralegal experience in the Philippines. As of the moment I intend to take the GDL + LLM at Leeds Beckett University. It is a one year program that can only be done via online/distance learning 😕 but after completing it I will immediately study their LPC on-campus. As a Non-EU applicant, do you think this plan/route will give me an edge in securing TCs at Leeds, UK?

    • @rosaverse
      @rosaverse  4 роки тому

      Hey, thanks so much for watching!
      To my knowledge, there are no advantages per se of being a non-EU applicant. You'd still need to attain the same grades/experience as someone from the UK. So the paralegal experience stands you in good stead.
      And this is from an article on the Burges Salmon (a law firm) website:
      "International applicants bring unique skills to the table: a global perspective, language skills, experience living and travelling abroad and the ability to adapt to different situations. These skills will be valued by firms with international clients and a global reach."
      Good luck!!

    Would you say the LPC/LLM is better suited if you are going into the legal industry rather than just the sole LPC?

    • @rosaverse
      @rosaverse  4 роки тому

      I don’t think one is better than the other. The main reason for the LLM is to qualify for the government post-graduate loan as you can’t get it with just the LPC. So depends if funding is important to you. I’d say like 75% of people on my course did the LLM/MSc add on.
      In the legal industry, I think the LPC LLM looks more or less the same as the LPC. They know it’s just an extra essay so will just see it as the LPC.
      I guess the benefit of the LLM or MSc options is that they are more recognised qualifications outside of the legal industry in case you try to find a job outside of law.
      And you do 4 electives instead of 3 so you get insight into an additional area of law that you may be interested in.
      But if you don’t need funding and don’t fancy the extra work then you don’t need to do it.

  • @zainabhussain7614
    @zainabhussain7614 4 роки тому +1

    Hi, thanks for all the info in the video. I have just finished my LLB and was thinking of doing an LLM with LPC which would qualify for the postgraduate funding from the government.
    I have a few questions i would highly appreciate if you could give your insight...
    Would you have found the workload more manageable going part time over 2 years as opposed to 1 year course.
    Also what was the course like, did it consist of a lot of research elements for the masters and the requirement of writing a dissertation and how were you assessed (coursework/exam/pratical).
    Do you think it would be possible/worth it to build up your experience whilst doing the course part time.
    Lastly did the course consist of practical elements for the LPC element such as client interview skills etc.
    Thank You x

    • @rosaverse
      @rosaverse  4 роки тому +2

      Hi Zainab,
      If you do the LPC part time I think there’s a certain level of expectation that you would do some kind of work experience alongside it whether it’s retail, internships or paralegal work. Obviously legal work is preferable.
      I personally think if you don’t get experience it would be hard to justify in applications/interviews why you have done the LPC part time unless you have commitments like childcare etc. But again I’m not like an expert by any stretch of the imagination and the full time course is quite intense so if you think you would cope better on the part time then you should do that.
      For your day to day classes most of the info you need is in the workshops and in your textbook. For the Master’s research report you do have to do your own research just like you would do at uni and come to your own conclusion about the topic.
      We did do Professional Skills courses. One of them was client interviews where you basically interview one of the lecturers and try to gather as much info as possible. You’re marked on your ability to ask the right questions and your manner e.g. handshakes, being welcoming and friendly.
      Another one was advocacy where you meeting with the judge (a lecturer) and opposing counsel (one of your classmates) and argue your case based on facts you are given.
      They were quite nerve wracking but they do a good job of preparing you for them.
      Hope the above is helpful and goodluck 🙏🏾💗

      The first part of the course is the LPC and your dissertation is what grants you the LLM award. Therefore if you do not complete your dissertation you will still be awarded the LPC which is a diploma level qualification. This is regardless of if you do the MSC - LPC or LLM - LPC. Both programs cover the LPC first. I hope this helps. I have not done it myself. Just read up on it on different universities program structures. Check out university of laws.

    • @rosaverse
      @rosaverse  4 роки тому +1

      Unfortunately I can’t make the decision for you 😅 But yeah as you’ve said doing the LPC is no guarantee of a legal job after. Depends on the experience you have so far, I’m guessing it’s minimal.
      Maybe try and get some commercial experience first? Like as an admin assistant or junior analyst in some kind of corporate space. That would then make it slightly easier applying for paralegal roles once you finish the LPC.
      Or do the LPC part time and then work/do an internship alongside it. But you’ll have to be really dedicated and organised to stay on top of things. It’s really up to you.
      In terms of training contracts I think with BBC it’ll be difficult to land one in the magic/silver circle realm but with a smaller or high street firm I think you’d still have a shot with good experience on your CV.

      There definitely needs to be more transparency about employability when it comes to law. It’s not the “sure thing” we were led to believe.
      If you don’t have legal exp, I’d say don’t limit yourself to the legal industry when applying for roles. As I mentioned the skills you’ve picked up are valuable in range of sectors and hopefully you will have done some retail/hospitality jobs which have lots of transferable skills.
      You can always return to the legal industry once you’ve picked up some experience.

      You can study the LPC anywhere but probably 80%+ of people go ULaw or BPP. Sometimes other unis are slightly cheaper or if the uni where you did your degree offers the LPC they give you a discount if you study it with them. I can’t imagine that it would count against you unless your planning to apply to magic/silver circle and big City firms. Some of those bigger firms do have a preference for where you do the LPC so if you’re planning to apply to those make sure you check their website’s FAQ section.
      So it really all depends on where you want to apply when you’re done.
