Don't worry about what the pilot is not communicating with you. He is busy trying to get your ass down on ground safely. Which is what he did.
Exactly
And for some reason he did not shut off the engine after all that navigating and communicating. The plane can run on one engine, if you continue to run the engine with backfire issues you have to be an idiot. Every GOOD pilot training includes troubleshooting the engine or shutting it off.
aviate, navigate, communicate, in that order, one of the basic rules of aviation. Flying the aircraft ALWAYS takes priority, once the captain and first officers feel safe with the situation will they communicate. keep in mind the first officer is probably talking with atc as well.

Air Travel 415 exactly
Yup. Aviate, Navigate, Communicate.
The Pilot did little explaining about the situation and focused on landing the jet safely. I'd rather get little explaining and land safely than get much explaining triggering me into panic mode and might end up in total disaster.
Great point. Things would've turned differently if people onboard panicked. It must be a frightful experience for everyone glad they all landed safely.
@@arcticavon1 And due to the low chance of that happening and the low priority of that compared to the real emergency, it's a concern that still does not matter.

@@Star737_yt the 737 max incidents are absolute tragedy so i agree about staying away from those but the 777 is by far best i have flew on and its not engine failure its a compressor stall it happens to all jet engines not just boeing and tbh its not that big of deal i ve seen 1 and they usually turn off the engine or put it to idle and go for the nearest runway just in case .
@@Peter_S_ Yeah well both you and the person you were originally replying to are both idiots. You two asswipes claim to "know" about aviation? Then why are you doing an Airbus vs Boeing spat based off of engine failures? Both of these companies have almost NOTHING TO DO WITH ENGINES, which they buy from other manufacturers such as Pratt & Whitney, Rolls Royce, etc., so comparing Airbus and Boeing by engine problems is moronic. I'll give you a simple example so that ya'll can understand. Let's say you have a car. Let's say it's a Ford Expedition or something. While driving, your tire explodes. Would you blame Ford? Probably not, since everyone knows they didn't make the tires, they get them from third-party manufacturers. Same thing with aircraft and aircraft engines. Simple as that.
@@Peter_S_ hes not filipino
@@ironbloodedalchemist Stop being such a presumptive moron. I was pointing out that engine failures occur on Airbus products too and 2/3 of his point was around a pair of 737 Max crashes having nothing to do with engines. I thought telling him that General Electric Aviation GE90-115B engine involved here was only loosely associated with the airframe and would go over his head, but his point was Airbus was safe and reliable while Boeing was not, which is what I clearly refuted with data. Anybody with a brain looking at that data would know the reality of aircraft engine manufacture. Your pompous response makes me wonder if you posses much in the way of either social ability or critical thinking. ....and just so you know how silly you made yourself look, I used to work for United Airlines as a technician (in the 90s) and my father was an aircraft mechanic for one of the world's largest carriers for his whole career. I've seen parts of the insides of commercial airliners that you probably don't know exist.
The pilot did this absolutely correctly. In an emergency, the priorities for the pilots are: Aviate, Navigate, Communicate. In this case, they needed to do a rapid assessment of the situation, decide that they were going to return to the airport, work through that return with air traffic control, and then immediately begin doing their downwind checks for a safe landing at LAX. Inform the head flight attendant I'm a situation. And then inform the passengers the situation.
The "communicate" portion of the sequence doesn't have anything to do with informing the passengers. It refers to communicating with any relevant air traffic control entities, informing them of your situation, etc.
Why the hell didnt he just shut off the engine!
By the Numbers you are absolutely correct.
Stand Alone Ask reddit
The pilots are doing absolutely everything to safely land.
Aviate: them flying the plane back to the airport
Navigate: safest routes to avoid traffic or possible collisions
Communicate: which is communicating to Air traffic control to request an Emergency landing and prepare fire trucks etc.
The updates to the passengers should be prioritized when the plane had touched down.
the pilot seemed to have focused more on flying the plane back rather than explaining to the passengers what is happening, why blame when everyone landed safely. damn reporting. pilot did a good job, the reporter did a hell lot of sh*t.
ABC blew the proportions of the story out. When pilots have an issue like this, they follow a check list. 1 aviate. 2 navigate. 3. communicate.

@@Migman2020 Sure they have an a350, but I am sure there are many planes can take off perfectly. Now I am not saying that every plane should take off pefectly, they should be able to take off with care and good maintenance. Now the 777 in this video, a misfire is not a major problem, it happens in many guns and combustion engines. A misfire is normally cause by fatigue in the engines or worn out spark plugs. But I would like to inform you that a 777 is a much older design than the a350. An older plane can fly perfectly fine, sometimes better than newer planes, but every plane shouls have good care and maintenance.
True.
3v1yGe12 xtr31 it’s airlines not airplanes, get your facts right!
I'd rather say "there's a technical problem" rather than "the plane is on fire!" to keep the passengers and crew calm.
It's not a fire dip shit and pilots tell passengers the truth to AVAIOD panic
You can't deny the fact that the plane is on fire. It's clearly spitting fire dude 🤣kudos to the pilot 🥰

The plane can run on one engine, if you continue to run the engine with backfire issues you have to be an idiot. Every GOOD pilot training includes troubleshooting the engine or shutting it off.
Joan Davies It's technically not on fire the engine is spewing unburned fuel due to unstable airflow which is igniting in the exhuast stream
There is no danger to the aircraft from the fire itself
I didn’t hear the video say the pilots said the plane is on fire. They tell us that the pilots said there is a technical problem.
I'm 100% sure the pilot's number one priority was to land safely. Instead of complaining why not thank him that he did a great job landing the plane without everyone panicking? While you're at it thank God as well. I'm thankful to God that you all landed safely and many thanks to the pilot and his crew for a job well done!
Because the pilot didn't do that. Everyone WAS panicking.
Maria Ross Coz unfortunately, it’s a generation of documentation. Everybody needs to know what is going on. This is not a pacquiao match that one needs a blow by blow.
Most of Philippines airlines pilots ex military airforce .
Heart and Troll How can you say that they were panicking, were you in that flight or do you know anybody in that flight?
Heart and Troll The average person wouldn't understand what a compressor stall is anyways the danger isn't even the fire
Salute to the pilot, he did a great landing
It's God mercy 2
Good thing it happened inland with the Lord's guidance.
~yes~
No, no he did not. First, he neglected to raise the landing gear after takeoff when he should have, increasing drag while climbing with a crippled engine, adding stress to everything. Then he overshot his mark upon landing while fully loaded with fuel and passengers, putting so much stress on the brakes and tires that the fuse plugs in the tires melted, deflating them. He got the plane down safely, but it wasn't his best day.
He knows firsthand there's a problem with the engine, what if the power to release the landing gear went off and can't be released, so the belly would be the best landing gear ? 😳😏
This reporting is somewhat bias, the pilot did what he has to do and safely landed the plane, it was obvious that there is problem so to avoid panicking, he probably didnt want to add more to the situation but focuses on landing the plane. Kudos to the pilot and crew. Shame on this reporter.
Of course it is. Uneducated landlubbers reporting on the soft concerns of other uneducated landlubbers.
And that they mention that it's a Boeing jet. Yeah right, if Boeing is responsible for co.pressor stalls, then that's like saying the airlines are responsible for the MAX crashes
The pilot did freaking good job right there.. I don't like a pilot having pointless conversation with its passenger without knowing and solving the problems. One word from the pilot and that's all that matter, all passenger, crew and other pilots is in the captain mercy at that moment. Good job to the pilots and crew 👍👍👍👏👏👏
Magaling ! No panic. Judge this pilot based on results - Everyone is safe.
Manuel Moraleda agreed.
..........it's god's guidance for all of them that mechanism of the plane to release the wheels as an important landing gear works well for their safety. Thanks God also, it didn't happen mid flight at THOUSANDS of MILES away from the land which is so risky to look around for possible emergency landing.
In situations like this, beyond the unquestionable skill of the pilot is that guidance we can't understand from a Higher Power.
Can't blame anyone disregard the guidance from the lord.
Way back in the 70's, with the same situation as my sister in law's flight from Honolulu to Chicago and a PAN-AM Airplane she's on, catches fire of one of its Engine, off coast of Hawaii and landed safely though they're far from the Island. It's God's guidance that helped them land safely without any untoward incident.

@@battyjoe You obviously missed the whole point of the comment. The point was that it doesn't matter what plane has that engine, if it is an engine problem, than ANY aircraft beit Boeing (B), Airbus (A), McDonald Douglas (MD) or Lockheed (L) will be inflicted with the same issue. Of course the anti-america left cheer for American failure, so they make it an American issue. The only American issue here is with the American General Electric Co.
Edit: Not trying to imply that GE has a problem with their engine, just saying that they would be where the problem would lie. GE is the manufacture that is holding up the 777-X, but that is not what this story was about. This story is about something that is an occasional occurrence on a highly proven engine, or any turbine driven engine for that fact.

As you can see, Mr. Reporter, the plane just took of the LAX when they decided to go back because of the engine issue. Imagine your if your the pilot and there's an issue with one of the plane's engine and your still near the airport and you have to maneuver the plane back while talking to the LAX tower officials and as we know, there were also lots of planes around the area taking on and off the airport, it like you're in a middle of a busy intersection and you need to make a u-turn. The pilot needs to focus on getting the plane back to the airport while talking to the LAX tower officials to make sure that there were no other planes that will collide with them while making a turn back to the LAX..
During that time ..
A pilot trying to be calm landing a plane because of a major technical problem isnt like a customer service representative who will tell you full troubleshooting steps on how to open your phone or how to fix your internet connection on your device.
