I like how you showed the deer diagram with the entrance and exit wound. That's a nice touch. There're so many videos where you don't get the shot details. Nice job!
You're stringing together successful hunts through the seasons, it's the grind that pays off!
superb videos. Quiet, not overproduced. Superb skill, knowledge, decisions, communication to the viewer. Just excellent. Thanks
Man that was a clear /crisp video. Congratulations on your buck!
Noticed that rear left leg being hurt as he left the shot area, good stuff congrats
Right leg
Your film quality is unmatched
Great work Garrett! Seeing you make shots like that gives confidence to the rest of us given the right setup!
Love the beautiful winter footage. Thanks for filming your hunts and producing spectacular footage for these cold February days when we are sheltering in place.
How have I not seen this channel? Awesome quality footage! Felt like I was there!
Well done! Congratulations
Nice job Garrett! Congrats!
Great Video
Excellent shot
Great Shot,,, and a great channel ,,
Amazing video and a hell of a shot. Those deer seem to pick a hunter out in later season snow conditions a lot easier. It was now or never when u got busted and it payed off! Killer video
Congrats! Great video
Alot of people seem to get picked off when using a saddle
You make great videos of real life hunts, lot of good info on your videos too. Thanks and keep posting!
Wow thank you! I texted the number
Well done, trust your equipment nice heavy arrow
Nice hunt. Congrats
Nice job on you filming and editing. I know how difficult it can be to do. Fine job indeed, sir. Congratulations on a fine late season harvest.
Thank you for putting in the work to get this video produced - its like an early Christmas present. Additionally, your video is an excellent testimony to the efficacy of hunting sign that indicates current deer activity. Thanks again.
Broadhead? An awesome shot love the channel!
Sevr 1.5 that I'd sharpened before using.
Great job. Good to see your hard work pay off
Great hunt. Congrats! I appreciate you taking the time to thoroughly explain the ideal conditions under which that front-facing shot was taken. For any new bow hunters watching, more often than not, head-on archery shots are a poor decision with ugly results. In this case, the archer was already at full draw and the buck was calm and only 12 yards away. And as Garrett explained, he was only 10 feet high in the tree which greatly increased his margin of error.
You have hunted hard which produced results- good job
Great videos man! Love the authentic approach and public land hunting. Gives me encouragement as a mostly public land hunter that big bucks can be had with work and scouting. Now only to make more time for the scouting part somehow! 🤔🤔
Nice shot. Congratulations on a nice buck.
Great shot! Beautiful buck!!
Another exciting hunt and professionally filmed and narrated.keep them coming!
weidmannsheil from austria very good aim i like it ^^
Congrats Garrett!! Great shot.
Ive learned so much from you brother. Thank you, and congratulations 🙏
Late season is always brutal for me, glad it worked out for you! Congrats!
Way too go Garrett...Awesome!!!!
The late season can be a grind depending on where you live but you got it done. Congratulations!
Good job
Great job, Garrett! Killer shot.
Awesome freakin job...once again it couldnt happen to a better guy!...Congrats!
Nice work ! Really enjoy your videos 👌
Great video buddy, love watching your stuff. Congrats!
Love your videos! Had to watch the kill shot 5x to see where the arrow went. Great shot and incredibly effective!!
That camera quality is amazing!
Very cool hunt! Congratulations
Like a sledgehammer on that deer. The way he ran I knew he had to have a broadhead in his back ham and sure enough. With the right equipment and confidence (and range) that frontal shot is sure deadly.
Awesome shot and great footage! Congrats!
Great video. Congrats on the buck
Wow, congrats ! Enjoy the Holidays 🎄
Love that angle. It is so underrated. Beautiful buck
Like your video
Beautiful footage man! Great hunt
Awesome hunt. Keep them coming
Good for you, Congrats!
Great hunt and what a great shot. Congrats
Nice going Garrett ! Wish you had time for more content.
Well done with the footage and strategy hunting late season! Nice buck!
Congratulations on a nice buck!
Congrats! Great hunt
Love the content brother!
Short and sweat nice editing
you opened him up
btw - loved the stablizer video. it convinced me to buy a side-stabilizer for my bow and it's made a world of difference in my groups and stability as seen in slow-mo video
That's awesome!
Awesome hunt brother Congratulations
Great job!
Heck yea! Was a great shot and hit at that angle. Congratulations. More winter meat. And was a really great strategy on when to go in way after daylight. 👍👍
Dang man, good shit. I can tell those deers are smart ass heck. But your ninja skills are on another level, bro..
your hunts always seem to be "regular guy" hunts...way more enjoyable to me because your hunts are simular to the everyday bowhunter. No leases, deer farms, or hunting on your grandpas private farm in So. Mn. No offence to those, but DIY is realistic to me. Great job and vid....
DIY - I live fairly close (Rochester MN). if you're interested in doing some spearfishing this winter, I have 2 weeks blocked off in my schedule.
Always look forward to your videos, do you and Shane Simpson have any hunts planned?
This is Parker, Michelle’s husband, sorry
I'm sure we'll get together for a turkey hunt or two throughout the spring. Have been talking about another deer trip as well.
Beast!
Congratulations. Good hunt. Good shot. Would like to know when and where? Was it December?
This was in ND in mid-November.
Nice shot, do you mind sharing what broadhead and arrow you shot there? Solid penetration
This was a Sevr 1.5 on a 250.spine Rip XV and HIT/collar. Total weight around 420gr
Devastating shot!
I listened to your podcast breakdown of the hunt. Couldn't wait to see the video. That shot was nasty! In a good way of course. How far are you usually having to go in to get away from hunting pressure? I hunt small public parcels and all the deer are hiding in private during shooting hours. Gonna start looking at bigger public land.
It really depends on the specific property. The most I've gone in is over 3 miles on really big pieces but I've run into people back there too. Other places the land next to the road between parking lots is really good. And then often areas half to maybe 1.5 miles in that are simply overlooked or walked past can be good. Sometimes it takes a lot of trial and error to find those.
I hear that a lot, but I guess I just don't want to believe it haha. What are some key things you're looking for when identifying "over looked" spots? Is it really thick stuff? Would it be best to hunt those locations mornings or evenings?
Hi. I don’t go in far at Al…most time stay 1/4 mile or closer to the roads/ parking lot. It seems like it shouldn’t work but I see a lot of deer. I got my buck within 75 yards of a county highway which was 100 yards or so from where the parking lot was. I look for really thick/swampy areas that meet open hardwoods. Finding areas where young trees that are growing close together that meet open timber is good too. The best secret I have is finding areas that I’ve mentioned with very few oaks. The key is to find the biggest oak…(preferably white but others will work too) closest to the transition. I guarantee you will have trails going from the thick and transitory edge going right to that tree. That’s your money spot. Let everyone else walk 5 miles back! If you find these spots, put in some time, you will get deer. Remember early season is best late is second choice cause no one is in the woods. Get good clothes and boots (scentloc divergent is my choice, you can get the outfit on sale if you look) and you’ll be set. Don’t skimp on quality gear. You save and buy quality stuff and it’s usually “one and done.” You settle for lesser quality, you’ll waste more money and time with repairs/ replacements over time. Hope this helps.
@@2cthetruth everything you've said is exactly what I've been thinking. I love hunting early and late season it seems. Finding myself hating the rut because I like to pattern deer instead of stumbling across them. I will definitely be giving these tips a try. Thanks!
The rut isn’t hard to figure out. Find the doe bedding areas and hunt the down wind side. Bucks will be there scent checking the bedding. Easy peasy.
Man I swear to God I've met you before have you been around the hortonville area
He grew up hunting in the Rat. Great job Garret
Yes I grew up and went to high school near there.
10-4 lol I knew I've seen you. Keep crushing big bucks and I love watching your stuff. Happy holidays
Awesome job 👏 👍! That place looked pretty much untouched. Was it? That's something I've noticed as well. Once those later season temps plummet the "Hunters" disappear with quickness. Which I honestly can't blame them one bit because I freeze my tail off alot. I don't know though,I just keep coming back for more. I prefer it but it's super tough and I've ate tag soup the last couple years because of it. I hunt mostly public,so no feed insight and it's super tough to catch deer moving at all. They stay tight to bedding and trying to get real close to bedding when everything is frozen is pretty much impossible. I'll keep at it though. Thanks for the encouragement in the mean time!
This little pocket seemed unpressured which was nice. I know it gets pressure earlier in the year.
Congrats. Do you still go to Colorado OTC for elk?
I haven't gone in a few years. I do have a number if points built up both there and for WY that I'll be able to cash in at some point.
Another great upload mate. Thats pretty much my favourite shot placement after a full broadside. I killed my Canadian Cow Elk with it at 19 metres with my trad bow. Do you mind sharing your Broadhead choice for this hunt? Couldnt quite make it out but didnt seam to be a head ive seen you use in the past. Thanks again for sharing.
I was using a Sevr 1.5 that I had sharpened before the hunt.
@@DIYSportsman I'm a dyed in the wool heavy arrow/fixed blade guy. But even I brought some Sevr's recently (Robustos because they are 150g) real trend on the heavy arrow/higher FOC pages to use the Sevr's, usually the 1.5's as you did once again, top job mate.
Nice work as always! Was that a mechanical? I know u like ranch fairy and fixed. Congrats!
Thanks. I was using a Sevr 1.5 that I had sharpened prior to hunting with it.
Nice explanation as to why you felt confident in that angle. Can I ask what anatomy got the arrow? 1 lung and heart?
The arrow went above the heart but appeared to slice sections of both lungs, a couple pencil sized blood vessels, diaphragm, center of the liver, and guts before going through the leg.
Gives the meat some flavor…
Nice. I always wondered if it was possible to get parts of both lungs on a frontal shot. I took a steep close shot at a doe quartering away last year at like 8 yards and I aimed for the heart because I wasn’t convinced I could get a double lung. Missed the heart by 2” but hit the main artery just in front and above leading to the carotid. Same result. Massive spray and crashed out in 6 seconds.
Love seeing deer in the snow great footage. The white balance was excellent did you set it manually or auto?
I used auto, but I did do some color correction in post. Especially with the phone footage which came in a little blue. The sony was pretty much spot on but I brought back some of the blue in the sky so it matched the 360 footage colors a little better.
What type of kneepads are you using
Tethrd knee pads
Hi Garrett, great hunt, can you describe your gear a little? How cold was it? What was that grip on your bow? What clothes were you wearing, it seemed really quiet.
I was wearing the Thlete base layer set and Zodiak pants. Then packed in I had some prototype bibs, similar to the Sitka Incinerator, the Sitka Fanatic jacket and neck gaiter, and the first lite tundra brimmed beanie. Gloves were from Shivershield. I had the bowmar grip tape on the bow. It's similar in function to tennis racket tape. Temps here were in the teens but would have warmed up to the 20s plus some wind.
And for feet I had some merino blend hiking socks, treated bare feet with aluminum based antiperspirant, and had Akara Nordman Extreme pac boots.
Awesome job and great film! Did you shoot and iron will, if so what size?
I was using a Sevr 1.5, but I've also taken deer with both the s125 and the wide125 Iron will with great results.
what hunting jacket are you wearing the camo fleece one
That is the Sitka Fanatic jacket
How far in were you on this particular hunt? Nice buck!
Close to around a half mile.
So question on public land how many sits do you do in one spot?
It depends. During the rut if the action continues to stay hot I'll hunt several sits back to back from the same tree until I feel like I need to move based on the wind or compounded pressure is changing the activity. But outside the rut, maybe 1-3 total sits throughout the season in any given spot. Usually the first time in is the best opportunity.
Okay thank you
What cameras do you use?
Like to know that too
I'm using the Sony A7Siii with Tamron 28-200 and an Insta360 One X2. Although in this video some of the interview at the beginning was just with my cell phone.
@@DIYSportsman awesome. Thanks
What happened to shooting a deer with a trad bow? :)
I hunted early season with my recurve on local land but wasn't able to connect. Lots of hunts where I got tight to bedding amd deer didn't get up until right at last light or after. Then switched back to compound when I started traveling. Next year I think I'll do those recurve hunts in areas that have higher deer densities.
@@DIYSportsman Can't wait to see it ! I know you will connect sooner or later.
