This is timely I'm just starting on a new track, I always find it hard to keep the percs to be nice and clear and spaced out but still atmospheric, so this has really helped!!

This is a matter of taste of course, but I think you went on those percs way too hard. The did fit in perfectly and sounded good before the whole chain thing.

i think i stopped on minute 23 or so but like he sad in the beginning, there is per se no rule. if i go "crazy" on some sounds which can means a long chain of processes/effects maybe on a simple percussion loop/passage etc. i render that at the end of going crazy to have a hole new wave and to reduce cpu. it might be different in a couple of years when the cpu makers go crazy too but in the meanwhile i try to keep things simple. start a new project for specific things i wanna do and import that later to finally adjust details to the mix or render in place etc..
sometimes there are some harmonics in the percussion and you can do alot with a reverb and things he did in the video. further i think its also a demonstration for others which might have not that much experience or it can be inspiring others. while i was listening i had some ideas.
so, yes it is a matter of taste of cource but in my opinion if so, there is also no too hard nore a perfectly good fit.

I second this. Been a great help with some of my ideas I was struggling to convert from thought to sound.

hey sadowick, can you make a tutorial on retro/vintage style synth sounds?
like for example the lead on the second drop of "pet shop boys - decide (cya remix)"

yes, and i'm sure that Ableton gave him millions over the years to use their daw, right?
