Great video, thx! Some hardware compressors let you switch between hard and soft knee, but I can only think of one that let's you actually control knee; On the Bettermaker Mastering Compressor you can go from 1 to 20 db.
Hey man, great video! I learned a lot from it. I've been playing music since I was a kid and only recently into producing. I have to admit I don't hear all the changes you make, listening on a decent monitor set. I have a trained ear when it comes to chords and melodies, do you think I can train my ear to hear the subtle changes in compressing and eq-ing over time? Any recommendations. I've just discovered your channel but I'm going to watch all your other videos, for a start! :)
Yes you can but it takes some time, I produce for about 6 years now and I can't be rely hear it but I think you will feel much more saver if you continue like you do,it takes some time
When I do a lowcut on a Track usually the level goes up... this is really annoying when you are chasing for any bit of headroom you can get. This Problem occures with every Eq and also in linearphase mode. Anyone know why this occures? Also great video!
I've never used Linear Phase mode before but I notice the same thing in Zero Latency, especially when adding a lowcut around the bass frequencies. I always thought it happened because of what's explained in this video, maybe it'll provide some insight? ua-cam.com/video/efKabAQQsPQ/v-deo.html
I know its somehow Phase related and sometimes using a phaselinear eq helps... But in generell i dont know how to solve this issue. I don´t know if i should take the level increase for the low cut. Or to just leave the lows in there...
im using the standard auto filter in ableton also the fabfilter one it works great. If you are talking about the 30hz low cut then that is not possible I use waves Line Eq but put the stereo version not the mono also if there isn''t any fix you can always bring up or down the volume on the track by a bit with track volume automation on the buss or master chain
@Paul M doesn't matter. It even appears when only an eq is applied... Try it out. Take some bass heavy signal and make a low it while watching the levels..
Eq before comp will often give you a warmer sound, comp before eq will sound more clinical (of course this is dependant on how much of either you apply)
It depends on what your trying to achieve, Eqing before the compressor will change what frequencies are available for the compressor to compress, so will yield different results. What sounds better in the context of your mix?

Pro tip: try contradicting yourself more and use more convoluted qualifying asides. Makes things more clearer. :P
Nice vid Sadowick, very informative 👌
Gran video, aprendi muchas técnicas con el. Gracias!
Mid side decoding isn't FFT, it's just L-R and L+R
Bro! U are soo cool and funny...and Ur Techno and Musik is Amazing!!! Keep doing✌🏼
Holy macaroni man this is useful
Cool video, nice and thorough!
So much help thank you!

I have the same problem ! When i cut the bass the level of the track just jumps up

So in general you need to have the eq after the compressor like on every synth or sample?? Because I always first eq then compress im confused..
you can do what ever the f.ck you want to do! :)

Hell yeah! Lmao
