    Here's the link to where you can purchase a Cuisinart food processor like mine! I highly recommend this food processor as mine has been a reliable workhorse for many years. If you purchase through our family's Amazon store, you get products for your own home and our family receives a small commission. Thanks a bunch! 😁 www.amazon.com/shop/ozarkfamilyhomestead/list/1MYVSG1271ZQ8?ref_=aip_sf_list_spv_ofs_mixed_d

    Hey friends. I realized that Sarah is always barefooted in the garden. I was the exact same way when I was much younger and had a garden. Now I'm a grandmother of two beautiful young grandchildren. This family is so inspirational to so many other families . Now days with the chaos going on in this crazy world I believe this is right and wholesome way for people to be raising and educating their children to be self sufficient and survivors in the future and that hard work pays off. Good job Parents. God bless you all. Sending my prayers to you

      Thank you for taking the time to leave such a kind comment!! Sarah is barefoot the vast majority of the time through the summer months. It actually looks strange to me to see her in the rare times that she has tennis shoes on! :)

      @lovelife0413, I couldn't agree with you more. I come from a large family, was born in the 50's and we kids were always barefoot. Sarah and Shawn raise their children the same way my parents raised us and I have to say, we all turned out pretty darn good.

    You had a great basil harvest. I've been harvesting basil all summer, I grow Thai Basil, Holy Basil and Sweet Basil. I use the Thai basil mostly for Vietnamese recipes and i put it in the dehydrator, the Holy Basil I use for tea which I also dry, and the Sweet Basil I make pesto also but I use raw sunflower seeds because my husband is allergic to walnuts. Sometimes I use pinion nuts but mostly the sunflower seeds, they are easier to come by and also we grow a lot of seeds and because it's a lot cheaper than the pinion nuts. To change the topic, we put watermelon in the dehydrator again for a third batch of it and that's 9 trays each time. We love dehydrated watermelon, the red and the yellow melons in the winter months. Plus I use the sweet and thai basil in other cooking as well. yummy We freeze our basil also.

    Yummy! Just yummy to have fresh pesto to garnish salmon! We love that dish! Your basil really enjoyed where it was planted this year! It was nice to see the purple basil, too. Dehydrating the rest will be a blessing for recipes going through the winter. Store prices for herbs where we live are a lot higher than they used to be, and we use basil in many dishes. It does smell so nice, too!
    Once our son went with a friend on a charter fishing trip to Alaska. He shipped us home some incredible salmon that he caught himself. It was processed and frozen and shipped right out to us, and oh boy, that was the most delicious salmon we ever had! Food prepared with love always comes with very happy memories!
    Now, I’m craving some fresh baked bread, so I guess I better ask Hubby to help me get some going! I can’t stand very long, so I mix everything at the kitchen counter sitting on my walker, and Hubby helps to prepare the loaf pans and lift them into the oven. I get the ingredients wrapped up and he helps to put them away for me. I guess everybody’s household works out who can do what to help reach the goal.
    Another great video!

    • @phyllisbell8698
      @phyllisbell8698 11 місяців тому

      I am also disabled, but with help, still cook and bake, using an induction burner, instant pot, slow cooker, electric skillet, etc. Another big help is a folding table that has height adjustment. It gets placed in front of my chair. Hubby or son, brings the ingredients and supplies to me, and i do the actual cooking. When i bake my sourdough bread, I mix, stretch, fold, and shape. Hubby or son, shuttles them into and out of the oven. I brush with butter, cover, cool, and bag. We do whatever we can, in the best way possible.

      Hi Phyllis! You have some great methods figured out to do the things you want to do! It can be a challenge for us, but we can always think of ways around our limitations! I was glad to hear that your family supports you like mine does! It encourages me to know that there are lots of us not allowing physical problems to overtake everything. We just do what we gotta do, and carry on!
      I’m gonna have to look into one of those adjustable tables! Great idea!

    • @phyllisbell8698
      @phyllisbell8698 11 місяців тому

      @PollyAlice2000 I got my folding height adjustable table at Walmart. The last two days, with the help of my hubby and son, I have done sweet corn for the freezer. Tomorrow will finish off what is still in the garden. They pick, husk, blanch, and chill. I cut it off the cob, measure into bags, expel the air and seal. Hubby scatters them throughout the freezer, so they freeze quickly. I'm aiming for enough to have at least once a week. We have 43 bags so far. Tomorrow should meet my goal.

    • @PollyAlice2000
      @PollyAlice2000 11 місяців тому

      Wow! Phyllis, that is great news to hear about your corn harvest! 43 bags, and still going! I didn’t know that Walmart has adjustable folding tables like you use! Thanks for the great tip! We are both very lucky to have our families!
      Your news is really an encouragement to me! Everybody has some sort of setback in life, and you are clearly the kind of person who is going to continue to enjoy life as much as possible, and not dwell on what’s wrong, but feel happy about what’s right! But I do think it's remarkable to see your family pull togethe, and with love, harvest and work together, to make things for the whole year! All of you work with the Lord in your hearts, it's plain to see.

    One of my fondest memories was watching the girls when they were younger and they found a preying mantis. The looks on their faces were so precious. They played with it for an hour. Setting it on different plants. This video brought back an incredible memory. And wow, what a haul on the pesto. And to answer you, it made me happy! 😂

    I take ice trays and out herbs, dill with olive oil n freeze. Then put in gallon ziploc. Take some cubes out when sautéing, making soups (I use to sauté v onions etc before adding broth), whatever. Works great. Just an idea.

      I’ve had the Thai basil before (purple) but didn’t know it would be good in pesto. I guess I was unsure of the taste. I’ll have to try it.

      That’s a FOTUNE 💰in pesto! Good for you! Those teeny tiny little jars are like $4+ and I don’t know if it’s a 1/4 cup.

    I bet your kitchen smelled so good making he pesto! Fresh basil smells so good and I agree with Sarah that fresh basil is so much better than dried! I didn’t know there were so many kinds of basil and definitely didn’t know there was purple basil!! I’m glad you’re set for a year!

      No, Kathleen, we have to start it from seed all over again every spring. So, just before our first fall frost, we'll harvest the entire plant and dehydrate as much as we're able. :)
