Great video! Thank you for the information.
Airlines cards are 🗑️. They don't even try to encourage you to spend on the card with such low multipliers. I almost got the Citi American card to prevent baggage fees but now I just bring a carry on instead
AA makes them a little better with how they earn status now.
Thanks a lot luke
When I’m stateside, I’m almost always in and out of AA hubs (DFW, MIA, JFK/LGA) for domestic flights and because of AAs Caribbean network out of MIA. The $99 Citi Platinum might be a worthwhile churner card since I’m on AA metal about 12 times a year.
Could you do a video on redeeming AA miles (business class flights)
I ALWAYS make inflight purchases when traveling internationally because that in-flight Wi-Fi is a must on those super long flights.
That’s a good point.
I don't fly with AA, but if I did, there are some good points here about their personal credit card lineup! Thanks Luke!
I don’t like in any kind of hub so I have to stay versatile. AA is the easiest to get status without flying a ton.
I really needed this info. I fly for business now and american is the majority at my airport. It sucks that they changed the gold status to 40,000 but they did give people a chance to have 15,000 and start to get some perks.
Hi Luke i love all your videos, get so much info from them, thank you.
Just wanted to ask you I travel at least once a international and demestic once a year, which credit card you would recommend, for international I travel business class.
Once a year isn’t very often. I’m not sure if I’d even get a travel card but I’d say chase Sapphire preferred.
Big Luke!!
I’ve been eyeballing the Executive Platinum for a long while and simply couldn’t pull the trigger. We fly Americana lot, but have the Amex Bus Platinum and usually just use that card for lounge access. The spend to maintain the access threshold for the Business Platinum - so I’m always covered.
Anyways - was at a lounge this last week and the line/wait was stupid. So I looked to see if YOU had a video on it. Decided to apply and got a 45k line. 👍🏾…. I’m not sure what the max line available is for this card but imma spend like heck on it for about 3 months then se if they will do a soft pull increase. I already have the Platinum Business American card also with $31k line,, but haven’t been using it much for over a year.
Sooooo - now more options plus took advantage of the 100k bonus 😊 + Max Status with American and can verb those upgrades much easier as well as getting preferential seats and boarding.
I think this card with my Chase Ink Business with large line I think rounds things out for me 🎉
Take Care My Man!! 🙌🏾
Thanks for what you do!
Congratulations 🎉🍾🎊!!!
im really thinking about upgrading my patinum select master, and going with the executive world elite card, i have the capital one venture x and that 1 lounge in dfw just isnt enough or the 2 that are upcoming, paying $375 a year for 1 lounge thats huge only in the dfw vs paying the extra 125 to get access to every large american airlines lounge in the USA just hits different, now that i know i really wanna cancel my capital one or either downgrade it to a no fee account and get the american airlines card instead.
I got the Barclays Business card for the SUB! Probably gonna cancel it when the AF hits, as I've used all the miles I got from the SUB, but it did well in when it was needed!
They denied me twice for that one.
The best lounge is virgin imo just the free amazing food alone AA is so low key. They recently upgraded, curious to see what its like. Such a tough choice. Virgin doesnt fly as many destinations and no sign on bonus but has free companion tickets. Its crazy making! 🤪 😂
I just booked a free flight with American airlines miles and 8 free nights with ihg points.
I think I'm keeping my delta reserve just for the lounge access and guest passes. During all the Christmas weather closures I was in Boston Airport and it saved us for hours with food and wine relaxing.. hate having a $550 sock drawer card.. and want to go all in on hilton but that lounge access
If you fly enough, it’s a deal
I can understand keeping it. I will be canceling mine because I’ll keep the platinum for lounge access. I’m trimming down the fat this year and the airline cards aren’t going to make it.
Following your advice, I downgrade the AA platinum to the mile up with no annual fee. I change my strategy for 2023 and I will be flying with UR points. I get approved for the ink business unlimited and the ink cash (180,000 UR points) and my next card will be united explorer.
Thats a lot of UR points!!! I’m working on the ink unlimited now. I booked some southwest flights for the first time ever. Haha
The AA miles up card sucks compared to UA as their entry level card doesn’t have a foreign transaction fee.
Good video Luke. I don't have any AA cards but for the right bonus I might get 1. I'll have my first visit to the Admirals Club soon because I have a Fist Class ticket.
Make sure it’s an eligible ticket. I flew first one time and it was even a transcontinental flight (lax-Mia) but it wasn’t eligible for the lounge.
@@LukesPointsandMiles Already checked. I'm good 🫡
@@SledgeIncTeam nice!!!! AA has some weird rules sometimes.
I’m looking forward to the video about AA status. I’m looking to figure out the best way to use my large business spend in a way to gain as much benefit to my wife and kids as possible, so far Hilton has worked out great.
Airline status is tough to spread around. It’s great for a solo traveler and even a couple but not all that for a family.
Uncle Luke, is Emerald club same as emerald status for int'l travelers?
I’m not sure I understand. I’m not familiar with “emerald club”.
I believe the lounge access for additional “authorized user” accounts are only good at domestic AA branded lounges.
Only the primary cards gets worldwide lounge access.
I think the upgrade option for the Barclays aviator card to Silver can give a lot of frequent travelers a lot of value. The same $20,000 spend can give you $5,000 elite points and 2 companion certificates for $99. I think this would be the best card for high spending to reach elite status with AA.
I think it would be great if you could actually apply for it. It’s an upgrade option for some after a year but for me, they would not let me upgrade.
Can you combine for status by using both the barclays and the citi cards cumulatively or are both independent? I'm leaning towards the citi aadvantage cards but my home base airport has a parking garage that gives a discount with the barclays aadvantage card.
@@PatrickDKing they are independent of each other. If you spend $5k on one and $5k on the other, you’ll still earn 10k loyalty points.
@@LukesPointsandMiles I was able to get an upgrade offer within 6 months. I didn’t even know about the card until I got the offer.
@@jamielee106 nice work!!! I’m guessing you were likely a better customer than I was. I think I bought a drink at a convince store and that was it haha.
While ago I asked you about the lounge in CMH, and it’s open (escape lounge) via Amex platinum card
Oh man let me tell you about that lounge. Terminal A does not connect to terminal B or C. So if you’re flight is not close to the lounge, you have to go through security to get to it and then go through security again to get to your flight. Worst airport ever.
@@LukesPointsandMiles geez that’s ridiculous. Do you know which airline flies from terminal A?
@@kamalgurung5155 I flew delta and I wasn’t able to get to it so I’m thinking it’s the American side. Let me do some research.
American, spirit, air Canada and United.and it’s terminal B
It's tough to be loyal to an airline but AA makes it pretty dang easy to earn status with their new loyalty scheme. Wonder if CITI will raise the AF on the EXEC like everyone else has done on their premium cards. Thanks for the info + video.
That would be interesting because I don’t think they card could stand a raise. It’s not exactly super popular now.
@@LukesPointsandMiles I thought that too.🤣🤣🤣
If they do there better be a way of earning more than 1 loyalty point per dollar, unfortunately Citi has been pretty lazy when it comes to competing in the travel space, which makes no sense as their still have some valued customers, even after losing Hilton hotels and gutting and water boarding their Citi Prestige card, which was the best travel premium card in the game.
@@LukesPointsandMiles I agree, maybe if Citi improve it like Chase improved the United Club card, but honestly as lazy as Citi has been, I don't see them doing anything to the Executive or any other card. I am back bc I am thinking of going for AA status due to my proximity to Alaska airline in Seattle.
You predicted correctly lol
Can we apply for the Barclays card and the Citi card for both their SUB’s?
Yes. Same day, even
Hello,
Question regarding the Advantage Executive World Elite Mastercard
I understand that your spouse and kids can accompany you to the Admirals Club lounge.
Can your spouse accompany you to a partner One World lounge (e.g. in Qatar) using the same card?
No and this card has been revamped since this video was released so the access and the overall benefits of this card have changed. I would suggest going to Citi.com for the new card benefits.
If I have the AA advantage executive card. Is it worth it for me to use some Miles to snag gold status while they have a special offer for me. ??
I can’t find any information on if this is worth it to me
No. No. No. No way. Never. Don’t do it.
I was never impressed with airline cards either. It's kind of hard to pick which Aadvantage card is right for you, between the citi and the barclays, and the business and personal. We got the free Citi Aadvantage one just for a points boost and to start the status hike but I think the one that gives the admirals club access is probably worth it for us since we plan on doing more trips. I just spent a week in December in Florida and we flew American Airlines with a layover in Charlotte. We did a day pass for the lounge and at first it seemed kind of meh, then I went to board my flight and take a restroom break and the full seats in the terminal and the really bad cleanliness of the "public" bathrooms confirmed in my mind that the lounge would be worth it to me. People say the centurion lounges are better. Maybe they are but I haven't yet dived into the Amex ecosystem so I can't say for certain at this point. I think the let down of the admirals lounge was I thought they had meals, but its more snacks, sugar/carbs, soup. I did however really like the somewhat private cubicle things they have with power outlets.
Sky clubs and centurion have actual food. Sometimes it’s nice to get away from adams kids and grab a quite cup of coffee.
I was never impressed with the Admiral clubs. Amex platinum's super power is their access to the Centurion and Delta lounges( for Delta's u got to be flying Delta) and the priority/other lounges. Unfortunately, I feel another annual fee increases, but u can't beat them for lounge access.
I think it finally went it to effect but with the Centurion Lounge, only the card holder can enter for free. You have to pay $50 for the guest. This makes sense because any time I've visited a Cent Lounge in the last two years, it's been packed and there's usually a wait time.
do they allow you to get more than one of the Citi cards to stack the sign up bonuses?
Yes in theory you could get all of them. I’m not sure what the rules are for time lines but I got the aa platinum select and the biz card at the same time.
I don’t have an airlines car but am looking for one to get some quick bonus mikes to help pay for some tickets to Europe. AA is the dominant airline at my local airport. Would you suggest the Citi / AAdvantage Platinum Select World Elite Mastercard Credit Card? 50k mikes after spending $2500 sounds pretty good and long term the free checked back would be nice. Or is there a better option for discounted tickets to Europe from south Florida?
Award flights to Europe I would suggest a card with transferable currencies like citi premier, chase sapphire preferred or amex. I think the aa card is fine but you can do much better if flying to Europe is your goal
@@LukesPointsandMiles thanks for the tip Luke
Im not a US resident so I can'y apply for Amex or Chase cards, but Ive been using the AA platinum card the last year, its not that good like United cards, I don't have any travel insurance, but I have AAdvantage Platinum status (daily card).. about to apply for the green one for a year and then downgrade it for a Citi double cash
That's the great thing about citi cards, there are a lot of product change options.
Does any AA card improve seat upgrade or priority boarding potential? Spending status/temp. bonuses excluded. E.g. Barclay's or Exec.
No. but getting even gold status makes you eligible for better seats and having an AA credit card makes getting AA status much much quicker / easier.
@@LukesPointsandMiles gold is 10s of thousands of $s. At least Delta does more.
@@Ricocase I think if you took a moment to look at qualifying for status for delta and aa, you’d see that aa is much easier. I really focused on delta, even got the reserve card and I was not able to gain status with them. I’m platinum with aa and I think I flew a couple of flights and barely used my aa card. Shopping portal, dining clubs and simply miles deals make getting status with as much easier.
@@LukesPointsandMiles reserve was worthless? Read just having the card increases upgrade priority + delta lounge + boarding priority. I'll recheck AA.
So I fly AA out of CMH a decent bit, I got the 99 AF citi card just before thanksgiving but I want the 450 AF one for admirials club. I have only had 1 hard inquery last year (the citi card, I am new to the game) and I have a credit score of 730 (down from 770 after applying for the citi card). I am going to be flying a bit in Febuary, is it to soon for me to apply or do you think I am safe to apply without getting declined?
I fly aa out of cmh as well. Good chance for upgrades there!! I can’t really comment on citi on approvals. I can’t seem to get approved for a Citi card anymore. But I would apply if you want the card. I don’t mind inquires.
@@LukesPointsandMiles so I applied and got approved! I know you are trying to stay under 5/24 but HMU if you want me to add you ad a AU
@@887363 that’s awesome!! I appreciate the offer but let me know how the lounges are first!!
@@LukesPointsandMiles will do, I'll get video next time I am at DCA, potentially the beginning of February
@@887363 very cool and congrats on the new card.
I'll be booking an American Airlines flight through British Airways next week so I can cover some of the cost with Avios points I transferred but I have a question about which card I should use. Since the flight is American and I have the AAdvantage Aviator Silver card that has 3x on AA flights, free checked bag, etc., I'd like to use that card but I'm not sure I'd get all those benefits since I'll be booking with British Airways and not American directly. I have Amex Gold, Chase Sapphire Preferred, and CapOne Venture X as alternatives. Just trying to figure out which would be the best one to pay with. Or does using Avios points negate all benefits entirely?
As I type this is just woke up and I’ve
Broke in Vegas a couple of days but i think you’ll still get all your AA benefits for having this card. I don’t think it changes anything just because you booked through BA. Just make sure you attached your AA number to the
Booking instead of your BA number.
@@LukesPointsandMilesI greatly appreciate your quick response! Love the channel and I'll report back once I try all this.
Does the Premium American Airlines credit card authorize users get TSA pre-check?
No. The biggest draw is the lounge access.
🔥🔥🔥
I aquired over 250k in AA miles without a single dime out of pocket for fees or financing in 2022 opening and closing different cards, and transferring balances between them.
Very interesting
American Airlines has joined the chat
@@SLE3PER47 🤣 they don’t mind. They created the game so they don’t mind while folks play it.
I never know the Barclays AA card got this 'hidden' benefit of the companion certificate before watching this video. 20K does sound a lot though, as this card doesn't give you 2X points on dining/groceries etc. Thanks for letting us know that! By the way is that an Omega Seamaster 300? Really nice watch lol.
It is a seasmaster 300! Thanks for noticing!
@@LukesPointsandMiles cool! thats a really nice watch! Personally I would say it has the overall best movement within its price range. I got the same one but changed the original braclet to a rubber band cause I got a thin wrist (unfortunately). The braclet is very unique and noticeable though lol
Wish they would adopt amex delta plat earn rate for 1.5x on purchases over $5k
I think the AA cards are a superior product than the delta cards. Only AA isn't likely superior to Delta as an airline ha!
Can I buy visa gift card with Citi AA biz cards for SUB, since Costco don’t take master cards. Thanks
That’s a tough question. I don’t know how Citi feels about gift card purchase. Personally I would t do it simply because it’s an easier bonus to hit but I have not heard of any adverse effects from purchasing gift cards. I just wouldn’t do it for the sub.
Barclay and the AAdvantage Aviator card have no customer support. I disputed a charge and they were no help. They sided with the vendor even though the vendor had no proof or even a receipt of the charges. The Village at Breckenridge is the vendor, and from what I read online, has done this before. I told Barcaly this and they could care less.
I want the barclays advantage card but it says Puerto Rico and virgin island can't apply for the card. 60,000 points for a bottle of water at the airport is awesome
That weird that PR is not eligible.
@@LukesPointsandMiles is there any workaround for this?
About This Offer: You must be at least 18 years of age. This offer is available only to applicants who are residents of the United States, with the exception of the US territories
@@melvinmignucci6538 you know that’s not something I’ve ever dealt with.
👍
The only airline card I like is the AMEX delta reserve. A BOGO first class ticket every year to a lot of great destinations is worth the massive fee to me.
The cert is very tough to use. I had one and it expired because I didn’t couldn’t find an eligible flight
@@LukesPointsandMiles I agree it was a lot more limited then just searching for a flight on there app, but I actually used this one twice I got them to cancel and re-issue it once due to a personal issue. Just goes to show always call and talk to a human.
if you don't plan on using airline cards, but fly American Airlines...What card do you prefer? (I am an amiercan airline flyer)
I use cards that earn transferable currencies. Amex platinum 5x on flights or the chase business ink preferred 3x on flights.
AA business credit card is the best by Barclays IMO
Yeah I didn’t include the business cards on this video.
@@LukesPointsandMiles 80k bonus, $95 statement credit, and all other bandits for $95 a year, same here in Atlanta Airport the ads for this card everywhere 😂
🤑
I’ll give someone $50 bucks for AU on there card 😂😂
I believe the video needs updates. I don’t think they card has 10 AUs anymore
The executive card is about to loose much if its “superpower”. 😢
For sure.
American airline is the worst ever. Left me and my family stranded at LAX for a whole day recently. Strung us along by delaying the flight for four hours just to turn around and cancel it. I’ll never fly with this company again.
I can understand that.
