- In this video we are looking at the 9 best travel credit cards of 2023 by ranking each credit card, so these travel credit cards will get better and better as the video goes on! The best credit cards for travel will give you high sign up bonuses, great spending multipliers for earning points, and other awesome features that offer a ton of value while traveling.
This list mostly focuses on credit cards that earn flexible points currencies like Chase Ultimate Rewards Points and Amex Membership Rewards Points because these credit card points are the most valuable in terms of the options they give you to redeem them. I’ll walk through how you can decide if the value from these travel credit cards will be worth the annual fee to you, and I’ll also talk about why certain credit cards on this list are better than others.
These best travel credit cards of 2023 can truly help you to travel more or travel better with all of the points and miles that you will earn! No matter what travel credit cards you choose, I think anyone can leverage these credit cards to go on a lot of really cool trips to new places.

I have the Bilt card and I have autopay setup so all of my subscriptions get charged on the 1st. That way I get the 5 transactions and also 2X points on those purchases each month ☺️
You're telling me that as long as you pay on the first, everything you've bought in the month will be multiplied?
@@SkyArmysGeneral No. Bilt gives you a 2x multiplier on all purchases made on the 1st of the month. Any purchases made on any other day have their normal multipliers.
@@SkyArmysGeneralyup
Personally, I could easily see myself getting value from basically all of these cards and I plan to add as many of them as I can throughout my credit card journey, even if just for the welcome offer. This is a super solid list Daniel. Nice work as always!! 👊🏼
Yeah I'll get a lot of these over the next few years too - already have almost half of them! Thanks Spencer!
The Amex Green is definitely a sleeper card. It has great multipliers be used as a simple travel credit card without the hefty AF.. Great list and Great vid Daniel 💥
Great video, Daniel! The Bilt card is definitely my next card I will be getting. Can't beat that 1x on rent, too
Thanks for watching Param! Yeah I really like the Bilt card as an additional bonus card to add to anyone's wallet if you'r renting. Better to earn something back from rent than nothing at all!
Awesome stuff Daniel! I only have the Bilt card out of the ones in this video, but that Venture X is calling my name!
Thanks Spencer, appreciate it! Yeah that Venture X card is great, I've got it right now as an authorized user in my 2 player setup and really like it!
Bilt has been a game changer for me. I can’t say enough great things about it. Thinking of leaving Amex Platinum tho. Now let me watch the video to see what else I can cop.😊
Bilt is great! I love mine as well. Lots of other great options in this video too - thanks for watching! 👍
Bilt is awesome. I’m concerned how they’re making money though and how long it will last 😅
I've come to the realization that I'll be canceling my AMEX Gold in favor of the Venture X or the Sapphire Reserve. AMEX Gold has too many categories that overlap with my Chase cards, and the uber and dining benefits aren't that useful to me overall (I also usually buy my groceries from Costco or Sams Club, so that 4X is rarely utilized). The AMEX Gold is like a diet travel card but what I really want is lounge access and other premium travel perks from a card with a low effective AF. Leaning towards the Venture X, but I expect that AF fee increase in the next year. The Sapphire Reserve Card benefits are also in grave need of an update/refresh.
My current setup: Chase Trifecta (CSP, CFU, CFF), Citi Costco Visa, Citi Custom Cash
Let's go! Love seeing the Bilt card featured here!
Had to include it here! So great that it's no annual fee - definitely a unique card that can fit into anyone's travel credit card setup if they rent!
We just canceled our Venture X after using it for a year. They lure you in with all the initial offers. But there is a reason. They partner with Hopper and their customer service is HORRENDOUS. If you have any issues with your booking, like them reserving but forgetting to book your international return ticket, you're screwed.
Capitol one venture customer service is pretty bad. I agree. the other part that sucks is that their partner ship with many airports for lounge is also not many.
I'm personally on Team Travel & love maximizing the travel upside through point redemptions, so I definitely envision myself continuing to add a lot of these Cards on this list (at least the ones that my wife & I don't already have in our 2 Player Setup). Great video as always Daniel!
travel knowledge in this video is just in time for my japan trip in q4, ty for this video and i can’t wait!!🤞🏼😎
The Bilt card is next on my list! I’ve just started renting and those travel partners are too good to not use!
Great video! I really like how you created a certain lifestyle for each card bc everyone lives a different life🙌 I’m looking for one with the most cash back on online shopping/Amazon and groceries + no annual fee🤞
team travel is the way to go 👏 bilt is def next on my list as a renter. great video as always, daniel!
I wish Bilt existed while I was paying rent in NYC for 10 years -_-
Don’t get any American Express card unless you plan to eat only at McDonald’s or Burger King’s restaurants. No real Ma and Pop restaurants take that shit! I just came back from Athens, Mykonos and Santorini after 2 weeks 😂. I have the AX gold! Even here in Bay Area the really small authentic restaurants don’t take that crap card. I did get 90k points for booking the Greece trip, 😂, lol.
Wow this was extremely helpful, loved the way you explained this! Thank you!😊
Nice max Dan. I like the black shirt too. Good video, as usual.
Thanks so much Scott! Appreciate you watching as always! I think this was a newer shirt haha
Thanks for this amazing new video Daniel! 👍🏼
It will be so nice if you can do a video one day of your TOP 10 most luxurious hotels in the world that we can book with points (and a especially the ones where we can get the best value)! 💰🤩
Really helpful video! Thank you!
Thanks for watching!
Great video Daniel. Good to teach people about credit cards.
Great list and video! So much value to be had!
Legend, great video!
Thank you! Glad to hear you enjoyed it!
Great stuff, Daniel. Did you give your editor a raise? They were on point with this one 😅😂...
Thanks David! And I know, they crushed it with this one! Really good editing skills they have so I'm happy to have them helping out with these videos 👍
Loved the video. There is one added point in favor of Citi Premier card that I think "warrants" mention. The Premier card is the only credit card that I know of that adds up to 2 years extended warranty protection to purchases made with the card, up to a total of 7 years including the original manufacturer warranty. I make a point of using this card for purchases of devices of various kinds that are prone to breaking down. I have used the extended warranty more than once and found it pretty simple to access.
Was waiting for this one ❤
Enjoy your posts. The csr on your list and often in other review posts its pointed out the use of transferring points vs portal. Yet the C1VX is promoted as a better value with lower AF yet am i wrong the 300 c1vx credit is using the c1 portal.. my point a negative for chase is a positive for capital 1??
Im obviously on team chase . For me yes its 550 minus the 300 , 60 for DD. The random pop up use credits this year worth deductions of 60 more..
My effective AF is around $130 not counting value from pre check and PP lounge visits. Use the card its free. And have the points. Love the x10 for Lyft. No issues using the portal.
You can’t argue with this list. I definitely think these are the best travel cards!
Dude, I can’t get over the great editing on your videos. Props to you and your editor for the probably best editing in the credit card space. Great video Daniel!
Hey Daniel. Really nice summary video. I have about half of these cards, and a couple of them I used to have but closed (the Premier because they dropped travel insurance, and the Venture because I now have the Venture X). Do you know of any exciting travel cards coming down the pike? Hope all is well.
I pretty much have to stick to Visa cards because of our shopping at Costco. Not having a Visa card means I would be just washing away $200-300mo. I haven't gone the Costco citi card route given its 1% everywhere else
Okay but what about using these card over seas? Are you still getting charged conversion fees etc?
Do you think it’s worth it to hold Amex Green, Gold, & Platinum at the same time?
Yes. Different multipliers
Love the videos 📹 😍
Could you do a video about the downgrading/upgrading process from CSR to the CSP or the Chase Freedom card.
I know you've mentioned it a lot in passing on your videos but I would love a full breakdown video about that and the effects downgrading has on future sign up bonuses.
For example, one question that I have is as follows: I currently have the CSP and love it. I am thinking about upgrading to the CSR from the CSP to get the current SUB. 1) Would I be eligible for the new SUB? 2) Once I have the Reserve for a year I would plan to downgrade back down to the CSP in order to not pay the hefty annual fee. How would the downgrade effect a future Preferred SUB? Would the 48 months reset when I downgrade from the CSR or would the 48 month SUB period have started when I original got the SUB for the preferred?
Thank you!
What happens if you can spend the 4,000 on travel ? It’s like u have to travel and get expensive flights to get those
Hi Daniel, what advice would you have for a 2 player setup. Me and my wife are thinking of stepping up our credit card game
I would love to see a video on the US Bank Reserve or Bilt card using the curve card to put your purchases on the 1st.
live in Canada and Amex is not accepted in lots of places, check where you are going!
Is there a recommended credit card or duo of cards for cruising if you spend about $5000 a year? Bilt looking intersting
Hi, I just started a business. I'm plann8ng on getting a few business credit cards. Which are the best for travel credit points and sign up bonuses? Secondly, I have cap1 venture card as my personal card. And plan on getting another personal card or 2, which would you recommend? Thank you
Also bilt just added alaska airlines
Do you have recommendations for how I can pay my rent on a credit card? My landlord isn't familiar with this concept.
The Amex green should absolutely not have an annual fee. It is not a good card with that fee there.
Every check on your credit dings your credit score. I would have presented this information upfront.
FYI, I think the description is missing the link to the Citi Premiere card. Also, if I already have the Capital One Venture X card (and BILT and Chase Sapphire Preferred), would you recommend I sign up for the Venture card purely for the 75,000 points? I would be interested in the Citi Premiere as well, but this way I can consolidate the points with my existing Capital One points.
Which credit union travel cards are the best?
We have the Amex platinum card, if I get the Amex green card for transit purchases. Will we be able to pool or transfer our points to our platinum card??
Cap1 VX sucks. I hate that it traps you into booking thru the portal. Sapphire reserve $300 credit is better. Replace the vx with the us bank reserve
I have the Venture so should i apply to upgrade or get the Amex platinum since i have the gold
Do you know if I can use plastiq to pay loans to help reach sign up bonuses?
I believe in saw a video where you kinda combine the Amex gold card and the venture x to offset eachothers perks that the other does not have. Only down side I've held back to not apply for the venture x is the lounge access when traveling. So I am still debating on getting the venture x but I do love my Amex gold because I use it daily!!
I don’t know how to use a credit card can someone tell me what is the best options for me I want to travel and I want something that I can pay in payments
how does one get 2x or 3x miles by transferring? all the transferring ratios i see are 1:1, and maybe 1:2 sprinkled in there
whit american express platinum you get the green car
So quick question on that BILT Mastercard. Let’s say hypothetically you paid rent every month through an app like Venmo/cash app and not some leasing portal. Would this still be eligible as “rent” or probably not?
Yes! I just signed up and instead of adding it into Venmo as a credit card, on the Bilt app under the "Pay Rent" tab, they give you a Routing and Account number to enter as a legitimate bank and it let me add it in Venmo. According to Bilt, once the payment is processed using that info, they'll know it's a rent transaction and you'll get the points. :)
give bilt landlords name and if they are in network with bilt then bilt will cut them a check directly
Every travel credit card hates me 😞
Chase: lol/24
AMEX: pop up jail
Cap 1: denied
Hello Daniel, awesome video!👍🏼 I've been thinking of getting started with these travel points/miles credit cards but don't know where tonstart. This video gave me hope and I learned a lot from this. I have a few questions though, after watching your vide, I am leaning towards getting the Capital One Venture X card. I book a lot of airline tickets a year (probably around 30-40 people) from asia to the US, do you think I will be able to earn a lot of points to book my entire family of 6 to travel Business or First Class after a year by just using (majority) by just points accumulated by booking tickets for other people? Thank you and more power to you! Cheers!🤙🏼🍾
Slow down! Your graphics move too fast!
Can I open a venture if I have the venture x
Please put chapters in your videos
If you used time stamps I would have subbed.
Sorry about that, all of my recent videos have time stamps but it looks like I forgot them here! I’ll add them 👍
Oh man the U.S. Bank Altitude Reserve (which is a premium travel card) did not make this list. I don’t own this card but man that’s interesting to see
I think I would probably include that if I added one more card. Definitely still a really solid card, but I don't love the annual fee (even after the annual credit). To me it's a card that's somewhere in between a travel and cash back card because there's no transfer partners, so the upside of the rewards is limited. Multipliers are really good though and lots of good additional benefits. If someone is a US Bank customer and likes those cards, plus if they don't wanna do transferring points anyway, then I'd say it's a good card
I haven't seen any UA-camr bring this up, but I'm getting good value charging my property tax bills on the card via mobile wallet
First
You got it! 🥇 Thanks for watching so early!
Why is this guy pushing cards. With high yearly fees. When you can get 100s of other cards with zero fees.
Thank you for the information! The transitions are really distracting. I have to just listen to the audio.
👍🏻
Capital one venture x lounge access 2 guests free only once in a year . After that each time 35 dollars each guests . Not worthy
@Daniel_Braun what card would you recommend for purchasing a $4000+ flight? I dont travel often but when i do its international and I own, so the bilt card doesn't have much value to me.
I have AMEX platinum and it is definitely not worth it. Maybe back when it was $500
Bilt is a must have credit card if you pay rent. 🔥
The Green card is a way better travel card than the Gold. The Gold has no multipliers for hotels or any other travel expenses, other than airfare.
Great overview Daniel! Those are some great cards! The Citi Premier and Green are on my list.
I only think the venture X is worth it if you do not have another high annual fee.
For example I have the Capital One venture that I use for the vast majority of things but I get all of my groceries every year The Amex Gold.
I personally do not think it's worth having the Capital One venture X as well as the Amex Gold or Chase Sapphire reserve. To have all three of those wouldn't make sense because you're doubling up too much. Unless you're just spending $5,000 plus a month
Can I pool or transfer points from BILT to Capitol one? Or vise versa?
You have great content but being able to make a career on talking about the same 10-15 credit cards is crazy 🤪 I gotta start making YT content
Thank you! lol I get what you mean, I’m trying to get creative and expand the content (like this recent video: 5 Powerful Credit Cards That 90% of People Overlook
ua-cam.com/video/J-826MltuoY/v-deo.html)
But highly encourage you to make content! I think the best part is hearing different people’s perspectives on different cards and topics 👍
What above the US bank Altitude Reserve?
Hey Daniel I’m thinking of getting a credit card and have a $400 limit but only waste $40 on gas every month then pay in full when it’s due, is that a good or bad way of using my first credit card?
Best way to do it.
If you used time stamps I would sub.
Gray video Dan! I’m torn between the Venture X and the Platinum Card as my premium travel credit card. I have to wait to see how much travel I’ll be doing before getting either card.
Awesome video! Currently only have the CSP, but would love to get most of these other cards too. Definitely on my list.
I have the capital one venture should i get the venture x or the savor one first
90k miles for venture x card at the moment. FYI.
Excellent! New video!✌🏼😃
You know it! Thanks as always for watching and commenting! 👍
So question as someone newer to the credit card game. Can I pool points from different credit cards like for example citi and chase into the same transfer partner and accumulate those transfer points in one place? If not is it better to stick to one point ecosystem or branch into multiple for better multipliers on categories.
Yes, you can transfer from several different credit card points systems to any shared partner. For example, Chase, Amex, and Cap1 all can transfer to British Airways Avios points. You can then use those points to book American Airlines flights as well.
So your best bet is identifying which partners you actually care about first, then trying to match to a credit card ecosystem, and then potentially combining multiple ecosystems for the best multipliers
@@thatguyoverthere54 thank you for the information it is much appreciated
So let me ask you this if I book my travel from orbitz for airlines and hotel and spend $10000 for my travel plan will any of these credit card will protect my trip and if I charge that on my card will I get the credit
I got denied on capital one venture x, i got approved on chase sapphire preferred, when can i apply for another chase ? How long do i need to wait?
Second :(
You still get a silver medal! 🥈 Thanks for watching so early!
@@Daniel_Braun Great content! Been watching you for a while! Nice to see you growing you’re the best credit card channel on UA-cam right now for sure
Lol Amex will approve me for the gold card but not with a sub.
As always, great work man! However I do have to disagree with you ok Bilt. I do love my Bilt card considering the benefits it offers for rent and other things. This is no way a premium travel card; It’s a mid tier at best. I consider anything with an AF of close to $400+ would be considered a premium once since they offer so much more in return.
Good info. I appear to be one of the rare ones who use & appreciate the Amex Green card. Hopefully you'll do a video in the future for the best business travel cards. I currently use the Hilton Business card by Amex.
Just show us the spreadsheet for all cards at once
Hi Daniel, can you please hang a large, taupe, monochromatic painting on the wall behind you to finish out your esthetic look? Love the channel!
Thanks so much! And I’ve actually got something that I’ll be hanging up in the background very soon - going to play around with the set a bit in the near future
Great video Daniel! Quick questions on points and miles. I'm not a huge spender, so would it be better for me to focus getting points from only 1 credit card provider? Or just get as many as possible with different providers? I currently have Capital One (Venture & SavorOne) and American Express (Gold). Should I focus on accruing points on only 1? Or still use both?
This is a great question Danny. - I have been thinking about this but unfortunately there’s not a lot of content about this subject.
I’m no expert but here’s what I’ve learned: most expensive travel credit cards (with anual fees that are $250 +) are for very specific people - individuals that travel frecuently and/or are big spenders because that’s the only way to justify the annual fee.
You have two options: focus on cash-back in which case it doesn’t matter if you are in the same ecosystem or you can have mostly cash-back cards with no annual fees and just a couple of travel cards that suit your goals and current financial status. You can use these for purchase protection, rental cars, book flights, etc. (the latter is my preferred strategy) but it’s really up to you. If you are mainly focused on travel- you could probably pull it off but you have to be very meticulous and have the availability to travel.
Bro is 10x booked thru cap venture x
Correct yeah 10x is only if booked through capital ones travel portal
6:45
Wish AMEX would change a category on the platinum. As someone who doesn't have food delivered or pick up, and who has only used Uber twice in their life there is no way to justify the card.
I could make it work with one of the dining/driving categories but not with both.
Yeah I think it would be great if Amex added some different categories on both the Platinum and Gold card! Platinum is tough for a lot of people to justify with that high annual fee
I always love these videos! Great editing!!!
best card to use with uber/lyft?
Both Chase Freedom (unlimited and flex) cards give you 5x if I’m not mistaken.
