The Airgun Show - hunting rabbits and magpies, PLUS filling options for precharged airguns…

- Pest control is a year-round job on lots of farms, and that’s certainly the case on the holding where we join Richard Saunders this week. Rabbits are munching their way through fruit crops as well as plants that are being cultivated for garden centres, plus crows and magpies are homing in on the lambs, so there is no shortage of quarry from him to go at with his Daystate/MTC combo.
On the product front, Mat is taking a look at the options available to shooters who need charging gear for their pre-charged airguns. With pumps, bottles and compressors on the table, he should have all PCP filling solutions covered.

Thank God there is a semblance of sanity and decency left on the planet to provide this!!
Y’all shooting sub 12 guns and making kill shots have my deepest respect. Here in the USA thankfully for now at least we can have FAC rated guns and it is awesome to be able to sight in at 25 yards and not really have to hold over to 50 yards. They shoot so flat even in .22 and .25 caliber. Sub 12 is a true challenge and those who use them are some really good marksman. 👍
Its why we have the best marksmen in our forces ;p
Why thank you for your kind words 😊😊😂
The UK has become a terrible place to be. You Americans had better wake up and not flit away your precious freedom
I used to shoot an air arms s410 classic at 11.75 fps out to 50 yards using Prometheus air pellet, with the right combo setup I never saw the need for fac. during night hunts with my night scope I could clearly see how straight these pellets flew, in calm conditions at that range it was centre cross hair with just a tad of hold over. not sure if they still make them, they were a mix alloy with titanium if I remember, , I still have some, you had to order the exact match for your barrel. they looked more like a bullet and were referred to as a bullet. absolutely astonishingly accurate pellets, no lead pellet came close on accuracy.
It’s becoming more and more like a daystates channel
magpie shot was lovely
There's nothing better than dropping a magpie, they're canny buggers.
The best result I had was 6 magpies in 5 minutes. They were having a bit of an argument with a couple of jays and didn't notice their mates dropping one after the other. And I actually dropped both jays with one shot, one was behind the other.
I have a Gamo Shadow .22 springer. Had it a few years now and had to re-spring it after the original spring broke. Also I changed the Gamo sights that came with the rifle for Hawke sights, the Gamo sights just weren't up to the job.
Still dropping magpies and squirrels to this day, although there are fewer to shoot at. I must be doing something right maybe?.
Much love from USA!!
And same back to you Bryan...Thanks for watching.
Good shooting fellas. Good to see some missed shots most other shooting videos would make you think that misses don't ever happen.
Excellent pest control guys. Top shooting. Great watch. Thanks very much!! 😁👍
Thanks very much. Glad you enjoyed it.
That first rabbit was a cracking shoot great vid as always
Thanks Andy. Always pleasing to put them down cleanly. Thanks for watching.
Nice to see a new video
I shoot bullet rifles and I still say you cant beat an air rifle it's where a young shooter learns his trade.
Well done lads keep up the good work👍👍👍
Good to see Kev & Rich doing what they do best - talking! Just kidding gents, another enjoyable video and some great shooting.
You know its all about compressed air Chris!
Richard had a great shooting situation, driving between lanes lovely shooting platform rabbits feel safe round vehicle, Bob's you know what. Thanks Mat as allways very professional
Been a while mate. My night before sleep is sorted now 🙌🏽
Sleep tight.
Another great video Matt... love your show especially the reviews.. so keep the great work up...
great position on the borderline using chair and sticks. i use a mobility scooter with camo on the front . New scooter is under powered and struggles . but often take up a similar position. using nettles etc as cover
There's a lot to be said for simply sitting quietly in cover. Sorry to hear your new scooter is struggling, but I hope you manage to tuck yourself away somewhere to get some sport. Thanks for watching.
Loved the show Richards good honest shotting some nice pest control and the bonus magpies lol I like the dive tank fill method but that's my budget to lol
👍👍👍😜🦄🏴🎣😁🤞✌️
Great episode Matt.
Fantastic to see the Huntsman still showing how good it is. I have two - A .177 Regal and a .22 Classic. I would not part with either!
We all miss, so let's be honest about it! Terrific that the guys did not edit out the 'fluffs'.
My view on recharging is simple; If you are fit and under thirty five, you can get away with a pump. If you have endless disposable income, get a compressor. Otherwise, get a dive tank!!!!
Keep up the great work Matt.
Good shooting
I own a hill mk4. It is an awesome pump! Takes a lil effort but its easy enough and assembles and dissasembles easily too. It's portable enough to pick up and take with you and helps to keep you fit lol.
How long does it take to top up to 200 bar? Mat missed that part from his exercise class.
@@adrianwright6311 I lose usable shots at around 100bar so go from around there fill to around 225 normally and that takes me about 2 and a half minutes to around 4 depending on my energy levels and how warm it is.
Great video and shooting gents!👍
Thanks JC. Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for watching.
Nice to see you can miss even with the best kit on the market.... Makes me feel better about the odd miss with my springer
Ha! If you like seeing misses you should come hunting with me! Thanks for watching.
I just ordered my first pcp. Been hunting with a hatsan breaker. Got the gamo coyote coming!!!!!! Very excited!!! Getting a ritcher scope recommended by this channel the day i pick it up.
Dave - I just finished a review on the Gamo Coyote for Airgun Shooter magazine. I have say its a great gun and fantastic value for money. I'm sure you'll be very pleased with it.
Nice!!
Excellent show , loved to watch the other two guys AND there misses .. would like too see more of that richard saunders , he explains things superbly whether its a hit or a miss , PLUS he looks just like me , specially with that goatie , its ok , i dont bat for the other team , im an happily married man , which brings me on to my main point , how long do you think it would take for my wife ( she's 60 soon , and quite healthy , although she has had a tendon come away from her shoulder blade in a motorcycle accident a year ago and I still quite painful ) to fill my 9ltr divers tank up , with the Hills pump .. if I decide to get one ...
You can affix a bike seat and sit on it to go up and down. Great excercise for the knees/thighs, and no pressure at all for the injured arm!!
Haha
Lucky Hare, it was.
Re 'filling options': you didn't mention that air cylinders need to be tested regularly (every 2½ or 5 years) at a cost of £35-£45 (local to me). Not all compressor stations are rated to 300 bar, so check your local shop before paying the extra for a 300 bar rated cylinder. A 232 bar fill - or more like 210 bar when it's cooled from the filling operation - will deliver air at increasingly lower pressures and you'll soon be getting less than 200 bar from that nominal 232 bar fill. Larger cylinders will give you more fills per bar and will often cost the same to fill (£6 or so), although the cylinders themselves may be slightly more expensive. My local dive shop understands what PCPs are all about and they stock parts like valves and filling whips but your local shop might differ.
Well done guys, I want one of that little rabbits feet, the one that got away that is, 👍🐇👌.
Rich, use the rip260 method, shout ‘oy’ 👍
At last some rabbit hunting and an FAC too. Thanks.
I’m getting that gun it looks so good can not wait
You won't be disappointed Kerrin. Mine is seriously accurate and incredibly quiet. Thanks for watching.
I love watching this #Filipino #OFW
Daystae are quite good rifles but I prefer Vulcan2 I recon it try it mate.. Extremely precise
Большое спасибо за СОРОКУ...!!! 🇺🇦 Thank you

Rich doesn't need to make squeaking noises - because he misses anyway 🤷♂️
Come on fellas - we all miss once in a while! And squeaking is just one of the full repertoire of noises I make!
@@richsaunders6515 Looked like twice in quick succession to me! :) Great video and full credit for showing that you're human like the rest of us.
@@adrianwright6311 You're right. I could make a feature length movie about my misses! Glad you liked the vid and thanks for watching.
@@adrianwright6311 I second this comment
👍👍👍😜🦄🏴🎣😁🤞✌️
Young heng compressor, £200 ish, had mine for about a year no problem's, 😁👍
That FAC Regal made a racket.
Agreed, it sounded loud on camera, but in reality its pretty quiet.
I feel less stupid now as I constantly make clicking noises when the squirrels are out haha never seen anyone else do it least i know its a technique now haha
Tobias - if you feel stupid, I'm working on sounding like a carrot :)
@@richsaunders6515 well you can start by dying your hair green 😂
@@squaretorttle9400 Ha! If I had any I would!

Matt get out there and show him how to do it
Can you recommend a moisture trap for the Bisley bottle please, thank you.
Nice air gun hunting
I like
I could be wrong, if I am my apologies. It sounds like you are squeezing the trigger on the inhale. If you are, try squeezing the trigger on the exhale, hold the squeeze. You'll be a heck of a lot more stable. And you can hold it longer. Breathing technique has a lot to do with accuracy. You can have the most high end scope but it wouldn't matter. When looking at your videos you have minute movement. Exhale and hold then squeeze, you should notice a big difference in a more steady shot. Ex ARMY vet. Love your channel.
Some years ago I had a problem with scuba shops that would not fill my scuba tank if I did not have a "Dive Card" which certified I had pased a course in diving and it was "Legal" to fill my tank. So guys check first. Just saying.
2:33 Richard "I don't think you can beat these"....... I think you can beat those.....: Ataman M2 Carbine 😉💪👍
Mat quick question, what is the wattage uptake on the Hills compressor ? my car can handle electrical goods up to a maximum of 150 watts using the onboard socket and would be great if the Hills could be operated from the car as well as from home. if it falls in the range it is properly portable. phil.
Nice video keep them coming, surprising to see so many pellets passing through the rabbits with head-shots from both .177" and .22" non FAC rifles.
I'm also a wee bit surprised by him needing a few Mil-Dots of holdover @50m with .22" FAC (@12:40)... so what range is that rifle zeroed for?
Cheers. Russ
Thanks Russ. The Huntsman Regal FAC is zeroed at 30 metres. in fact, I got it wrong on the film, that magpie was taken at 64 metres...
What type of ammo you use
Air Arms Diabolo Field 5.52 and 4.52...
Allowed.. lol
Have a look at this..(maquina papa inflar rifles PCP.)
The way everyone is welded to these damn phones, a text would have done it right off the bat. Hell he might have just hopped into your gun barrel 🤣😂😅
Not keen on the daystate rifles not sure why... Shot a few... Just something about them
I miss this, I must get back out into the field. Any recommendations for rifles/scopes?
Hi Rob, my two favourites are Daystate Huntsman Regal and HW100KT, both great rifles. Kev
Thanks kev , appreciate it 👍
@@kevb9319 I just picked up an FX wildcat mk3, awesome rifle. No regrets
The Reg'd Huntsman regal FAC, how many shots do you get to a fill, assuming 230bar? Im looking forward to the FAC XL version, unregged. I'll be installing one. Good shooting!
I get around 30-35 shots from the .22 at 30ft.lbs. with a 250 bar fill, which is ideal for hunting. The reg is set at about 150 bar, so with a 250 bar fill that's about 100 bar of useable air. I'd recommend the HR version over the non-regulated rifle as you want all of those shots to be as consistent as possible. Great choice either way though!
Are you shooting with verifocal lens specs and do you have any problems with them.
Hi Micky. Yes, varifocals and they are a bit of a pain but I find that I can get on fine by adjusting the ocular lens on the scope. Thanks for watching.
I have Varifocals, they are a pain in the ass. Still trying to get use to them with my scope
Hi, it took me a while to realise that although my distance glasses aren’t varifocals the view through them does effectively alter the point of aim when the eye is not exactly in line with the centre of my scope. This was leading to shots going high and the resulting misses.
I now remove them before taking aim and with the scope diopter set for my normal vision the reticule is perfectly clear and no more stray shots.
How many pumps is required on the manual pump to fill for a average sub 12 pcp ? I'm in the point of contemplating moving from Springers to pcp ?
Get a PCP, you won't regret it. My advice is get a dive bottle if you can. Filling with a stirrup pump is doable but it's a bit of a chore.
Hi please could you tell me what make of bag your shooting off the pickup with ?
Hi Kevin. Its just a regular bean bag cushion - it doesn't even have a brand name or label. Lots of retailers sell them but I bought mine several years ago from John Knibbs International. A really handy piece of kit and I wouldn't be without it. Although they are mainly intended to sit on, I use mine as a gun rest from the back of the truck - as you can see in the film - and I also use a couple of bungee cords to secure it to the window frame when shooting from the truck.
Couldn't hack it being under 12ft/lbs ....gotta have 30+ and a scope that cost more than the average Joe could afford.... About time we saw some real world shooting ... Wounded and all
What is the item called that's covering your neck and face?
Hi Michael. Sorry it's taken me until now to reply. I'm not sure what the proper name for it is, but I've always referred to mine as a head net. I'm sure that if you did a search for 'hunting head net' you'd get pretty close.
Any links to the camera mount?
Hi Darren. Its a Sideshot scope cam. I think I bought mine from Braces of Bristol.
Which mtc scope do you use ? which model would you recommend ?
Hi Martin. The second scope in the film - the Cobra F1 is a real favourite. Its light, compact and has the advantages of first focal plane. The glass is extremely clear as well. I'm also a fan of the zero eye relief SWAT Prismatic scopes as well.
Can you provide a link to your phone camera mount please?
www.side-shot.com/online-store/Side-Shot-phone-Mount-p78834419. I'm not sure where you live, but if you do a Bing or Google search for 'Sideshot phone mount' you should come across a retailer near you. Good luck.
Hey anyone knows a good scope for a gamo coyote 40joules(europe version)
Depending on what you want to shoot and on what distance, I would get a mill dot scope and enough zoom. I have a 3-9x40 on my Coyote. It works good
Willem Wierenga mtc mamba lite
Some will differ on the gun and I am one . IMO and many others , it’s far being the best . Over rated , over priced . I will never buy another daystate
I'm an S510 Xtra FAC man myself. Highly accurate with that Walther barrel and very quiet. The rifle in the video produces a snap whereas the AA S510 gives just a whisper pfft!
Hi
How i can buy one of this air guns?
I’m in the USA
Thank you
Check amazon or any airgun provider (pyramidair, crosman, etc)
What phone holding adaptor are you using?
Its a Sideshot scope cam.
When will you get your hands on the daystate delta wolf bud
As soon as possible I Hope Gary. Looks like an interesting rifle doesn't it?
missing at that distance! you should get a rangefinder.
I know, I'm one of those rare shooters who misses every now and then. We can't all be perfect all the time...
Noholts gun sale
You can by a compressor like that for about 140 pounds plus nail guns spray guns etc
David in Somerset
Most shop compressors top out around 2-10 Bar... Not the 200-odd you'll need for airgun filling!
why don't you protect the gardens-products with high walls or wire fences, killing wild animals is not a result...
The site covers nearly 400 acres. The cost of fencing would be enormous and wouldn't keep rabbits out. If anything, it would fence the rabbits in.
@@richsaunders6515 wooov
Some pi$$ poor shooting on the early rabbit's, or "all the gear no idea shooting" as we say on the range.
Easy on the range isn't it?
This has gone way too far into product placement/advertising for me, have unsubbed
Agreed, daystate and primos to name two. Thing is since the mk4 daystate havn’t made any thing worth having, primos trigger sticks are possibly the most overpriced item on the planet.
Good video but no point killing that magpie. This is why people hate hunters. Pointless kills.
Hi Jake. I'm not sure if you heard me say at the start of the video that the farm next to the one I was shooting (another of my permissions) is a sheep farm. The sheep are lambing pretty much all year round. Corvids are a problem because they will attack pregnant ewes that lay down and can't get up again, as well as their very new born lambs. If you've ever seen a ewe or lamb with its eyes pecked out you'll understand why shooting magpies and other corvids is not pointless. Thanks for watching.
information about pellet used...pls... Caliber_grain_type-brand- etc..
8.4 gn Air Arms Diabolo Field 4.52mm
He’s so pissed off😂
Hello to all fellow shooters,I’ve just brought Adras QR bipod. My question is does anyone know what’s the best Picatinny rail to buy and where from? Any help would be appreciated.
Cor that breathing noise is awful!
Questions please. Do you need to discharge pressure in rifle if not using regularly? Or can you leave it at full pressure ready to use? Do they lose charge if left by leakage? Thank you.
Hello Roger. You can leave air under pressure in your rifle, not a problem...Thanks for watching.
Great Program however a conspicuous absence of pellets and ballistics used in hunting.
Hi Dave. The pellets were Air Arms Diabolo for both .177 and .22.
Great rabbits hunting
Bela arma 👏👏
Sub 12. Well done sir.
Don't worry, I'll have some FAC footage for you soon :)
Do you eat the rabbits?
Hi Porkster. Yes, I do, as do my friends and family. And when our freezers are full the rest go to the birds of prey centre. Nothing wasted.
where do i find a tri pod like this or the name of it
Hi Michael. The shooting sticks are Primos Trigger sticks.
thanks so much
