Derek we absolutely love watching you do anything with cars or anything. Don't ever apologize for your videos, we are blessed to be able to go along with you guys for your journey. Also I wanted to thank you for thinking about the future and doing it the right way so you or someone else could put it back to stock because those cars are hard to find and even though I like some other shows you are the only one I see that actually cares about the history of your cars.

You are one in a million Derek. Many car shop channels out there but you put yours together from simple beginnings in your home garage (with blessings from the family of course). Others are obviously just kids with lots of dad's money to play games with. Anyone can just replace parts with Chinese flea-bay knockoffs to get an engine running, but it takes experience and mechanical know-how to do it the way you do with explanation to boot.. A real American.

When I was 14 my oldest cousin turned 16, and our grandpa gave him his 1977 Monte Carlo as a birthday present. It didn’t run obviously and had mushrooms growing in the trunk (northwest Washington) but we were over the moon and had it running in a few days. It was baby blue with a white vynal top. White interior of the finest pleather with swivel bucket seats!!! Man we had a time in that car! I can’t even hear the name without smiling.

Derek you are definitely one of my fav You Tube channels. I had a body shop for 20 years. Started out with rustorations, and then it became the largest shop in Western Delco with 11 full time. The point I wanted to get to was that I started doing 55-57 TBird restorations. I did the body end of thngs, and the company out of Exton did the rest. They were frame up. Couldn't tell it wasn't a brand new car when done. Okay, okay let me get to the simple point. In order to remove paint from a car the secret which equals very little work, and great results is to buy about 4 gallons of a good paint stripper. Mask off all of the seams around door, trunk, hood edges and don't purposely put stripper on the tape. Bury the car in stripper. Make it soaking wet. Walk away and let the stripper do all of the work. You can even use a plastic squeegee to remove the paint. Don't do any scraping; that's work. Put on another super wet coat. Let it sit. You'll know when it is time to remove it. You'll find the end result is totally bare metal. Clean it all off and then remove the tape from the door etc. seams, and use a DA with 80 grit and take that little rim of paint that was under the tape off. Bingo. Don't worry about using 80 grit because this is metal which resists the sand paper from digging in.
Next up you want to use metal etch liquid on the paint. All car manufaturer "pickle" the metal with acid so it will accept the paint, and also it dissolves the little tiny seeds of rust that are now all over the metal since those metal sandng dust particles are so sensitive to moisture that even the humidity in the air will turn them into seeds of rust. Cover it with primer and skip the acid treatment, and with a year or two you will have peeling paint, with a skim of rust on the metal. Use the acid and you can leave the metal hanging on a wall without any primer or paint and it won't rust. This comment is getting kind of long, and I have something else to share with you about all of this, so I will start a new comment.

What I am talking about here is doing up a car like you saw in the car show you just went to. Mind blowing quality, and thanks to these tips, it's not out of reach to do one. Sandblasting makes all of the difference. I saw that look in your eye when you got done seeing those cars. Love your channel just the way it is though. Your no holes barred approach to things encourages people in a positive way. Your incredible amount of knowledge helps too. :-)

Still have a 77 Monte Carlo that was my mom's car. Spent it's entire life in Michigan. Had to replace both doors and do some other body work, but 90% of the car is original. Mom was very careful to spray the wheel wells at the quarter car wash in the winter. Really saved the sheet metal. Tried to replace some of the trim on the sides but the prices were out of reach. Just had the pins ground off and the side marker lights filled in. New black paint and replaced the landau top. Swivel bucket seats always draw a second look.

This car reminds me of a combination of my dad's old 1975 Black Monte Carlo with a 350, and his 1976 Brown Monte Carlo with a 400. These cars were tanks.

YES, this is awesome! I had a 76' Monte I raced for 5 years in the Factory Stock Division on dirt. Wish I could race it again. That thing drove like a Cadillac. When we needed a new body, we cut the rear 1/4ers and roof off in 1 piece, wasn't to bad of a job actually. Can't wait to see it finished!

This is the perfect car to do this to.
Like everyone else that has said, you don't need to apologize, this takes a lot of time and effort.
Add in the fact you only have 6 days, editing, shooting, plus the all important family time, it's a huge undertaking.
But we will all be here to watch.
You make THE best videos on UA-cam!
Thank you Derek, part two will be epic no matter what!

That is the EXACT same car I had back in 1979 - including the Landau vinyl roof. Even the color was the same. Mine came with the 350 2 barrel. I called it my lead sled. It could not get out of its own way. That thing guzzled gas. I could almost use the fuel gage as a tachometer. On the positive side, it rode and drove very well.

Awesome. I learned to drive on our '73 Monte Carlo. 350 4bbl. Engine was bulletproof. Didn't need more than regular maintenance the entire time our family owned it.

Thank you Derek once again for taking the time to show us your projects, you are a frikken gem man and I am excited for the Monte! I have learned so much from you over the years (this is coming from a fairly handy humble person); I haven't splashed any molten metal before, probably near too old and decrepit anyhoo, but I figure with what I've learned over the years from you and a few other of my favorite car folks here on YT, I could probably stick two pieces of metal together with okay results: This is a wonderful way to learn things and so very appreciated by my friends and me in these weird times, at least a guy can sort of think to himself he did something productive during the day by maybe remembering something... something like that. :)
Cheers from Canada, the western ocean side, stay safe and smert and healthy!

The ole’ Monte is my favorite old school NASCAR rig. Enjoyed the video. The whole time I watched my brainolator kept tickling me with a distant memory of a distant memory of a model kit or a matchbox car I had of a race car Monte Carlo from childhood. It’ll come to me at about 3:00 in the morning. Can’t wait to see the finished product.

I can't remember what year my buddy's monte carlo was but his car had captain seats that would swing / swivel to the left (driver side ) and right ( drinker's side )
So it made it easy to get in or out...!!!!

He painted it with a black with a brush in Kmart parking lot. Looked actually good
His name was Dan we named him Dan the boat man. this was 26 years ago

My favorite monty carlo is the 76.. Mine had swivel seats center shift gauges instead of dummy lights. I had mine for 10 years.. Two motors and a tranny done all my self. The first motor was a 350. The next one was a 396.. I loved that car! It was my cruiser.
