Charlie Mashburn repossessed this truck and trailer for a bank. It was stored at his Saginaw TX yard for the bank until he finally bought it from them.
The truck and trailer were never used as a unit by him. The "wedge" breaks were a safety issue as they never really worked well.
I did however build a steerable trailer out of the 4 axle "jeep" running gear and a triple axle 150ton running gear from a different trailer. (We moved a 625 metric ton vessel in Oklahoma with the steerable. )
I also built a portable bridge for Mashburn. We were going to use "Tuff-E-Nuff" to drive over the bridge to load test it, but the breaks were an issue. It was an incredible truck to drive even if it didn't stop to good.
We put counter weights on one of Mashburn's 75ton Mack's "Double Tuff" and used it for the test.
The trailer was a 500ton TSI if memory serves. It originally had float tires for use in sand. Another TSI trailer was part of the deal. It was a double goose neck so the back could be steered. We built the portable bridge out of the deck of that trailer. It was originally built for Trans Western, they became American Rigging at some point.
When we moved the 625 metric ton vessel we used Double Ugly and a 350ton lowboy under the front pulling and the steerable I built on the back with the Gerosa 75ton Mack pushing. That truck was later named "Double Tuff."
All of this equipment was sold by Mashburn to Lone Star Transportation.
It was sold again not long after at a Richie Brothers auction in Ft Worth when Lone Star found itself in financial difficulties.

It actually went from the Richie Brothers Auction yard in north Ft Worth to its next home, at least that's where I saw it last. The truck would have been hauled away just as in the video on a beam trailer.
There was a 5th wheel mounted on a plate that would hook to the trailers kingpin. The plate in turn had a king pin on the bottom of it. The plate had a place to hook a winchline to hold it straight. A heavy road truck would have hauled the trailer north.

Really too bad that he couldn't (or, wouldn't) take the trailer, as well. Other than Gary, and all you guys involved with the move.... Nobody probably would have known whether or not that... that trailer was the original trailer. It may not have been the original.... however, it was built for the Mack to haul with.
For whatever reason the "original" trailer was no longer there, the very fact that they had this trailer built for it... still makes it "original" to the truck, even if it was the 2nd one.
Hopefully, Gary's museum site will post some video's of the Macks restoration progress, so we can all follow along. Thanks for posting this series of video's to share this "save" for all of us to witness.

Hi, Backyard Barn Finds, this is a great find, the money sunk into this will be more than worth it. This Mack M100SX is a historical piece of equipment. Curious as to whether or not it will be used as a working truck or just put on display ins a dedicated shelter of some kind. The DD 12V149 is one heck of a power plant, it's so very, very durable, an excellent power plant for stand-by, industrial or off highway! All the best with it. If you need more money to do the restore, an idea might be to set up some site to donate money, and I'll donate. I loved big trucks since I was 6 years old, I'm now 71 - and still a kid at heart, for trucks, locomotives and piston powered planes.

I’d be willing to bet it not as loud as you think it might be due to those 4 turbos it has. Turbos usually have a quieting effect on the exhaust noise much like a muffler would. It’s still a shame the trailer can’t go with it. It could be displayed at the museum with another large truck on its bed to showcase the size of this one.

It was no where near the 600ton capacity suggested. To bad my father is not alive as he bid against Talbert to build that trailer.

I don't know anything about this truck but I'm glad you saved it. Were the 12v149 mostly used as train engines? I heard of them but don't know what they are common in.

Parker i wonder if you can find any of the original drivers that drove it back in the day for some stories?

The drivers from the Lone Star and Mashburn days are all dead. James Steely being the chief among them. I actually drove Tuff-E-Nuff on location and pushed with Double Tuff while Steely pulled with Double Ugly.

It's better to have one in the hand than two in the bush. Restore the Mack and go back and pull the trailer home. It needs to stay with the truck. 💯

Seems like a helluva unit to be sitting on a 6 axle setup..... especially in NY! Moving it at night must've had something to do with it 🤣

It was all legal lol. By law oversized stuff has to be moved through NYC at night.

That truck and trailer both have been in that same spot due to the fact it's expensive to maintain, move and operate. It would be cool to see this outfit all painted up in a museum, but unfortunately it just doesn't make sense financially. I'm sure that truck is expensive enough to move and the trailer would be that much worse. I wish all parties involved with the truck restoration all the luck, and i can't wait to see it complete one day!

👍👌👏 2) This video could've even better with hearing the roaring of the truck hauling the big Mack. Unfortunately it was layed over by unnecessary music. Nevertheless of course: Thanks a lot for making teaching explaining recording editing uploading and sharing.
Best regards luck and especially health to all involved people.

How would you actually know that isn't the original trailer? That makes no sence I mean it only can be hauled by that truck. I'm sorry but as a collector piece it would be way cooler of a collector piece with the trailer idc what anyone says

You buy it then & pay the costs for transportation & restoration.

It is the original trailer. Came from TSI with different tires. I maintained Mashburn's equipment from 1981 till he sold out to Lone Star Transportation.
