Any seniors remember “The little girl” from 9th ncert English? I’m graduating from 8th to 9th grade and I bought books in advance, and seeing that lesson made me puke in my head. For those who don’t know, this story is about a girl called Kezia. Her father constantly abuses and beats her, and she is completely traumatized and afraid of him. But later on they paint the father as a good person by a huge passage that basically says “the father was just stressed, that’s why he beats her. So he’s a good person” (it’s not said literally in the book, but this is the correct meaning of the passage. Also, 12th graders, know “Ranga’s marriage”? My cousin sister hates that lesson, because it promotes pedophilia. I think the English ncert authors smoke weed whenever they write/take stories for ncert.
Ikrrr the little girl shit was soooo weird and toxic like wtf??! Y are they promoting this shit??I mean hitting your kids to discipline them is kind of controversial but what was written in tht chapter was STRAIGHT UP ABUSEEE the fact tht the granny justified it was so ..
@Lalala4527 yess I'm in 10th rn and even last year I just could not interpret what they were trying to say in that story.. He straight away abused the girl and the girl was literally traumatized by her known father and one day they just out of nowhere make him the good guy and justify the abuse Kezia dealt with... I remember that even our teacher was telling us that how she finds the story a lil off and she told us that if we are dealing with abuse DO NOT THINK OF JUSTIFYING IT... she even told us to attend a few sessions at the school counsellor if we were dealing with any kind of toxicity or abuse
I guess my mom isn't good cuz she taught me consent, she is a teacher she works outside leaving her children alone in the house, and caring if they have fever. Wow brilliant. The grammatical errors wow!!👏It seems like they were in so much hurry to make question paper that they didn't even looked at it. I think giving exam is more important than learning things.
Ikr!! Our education system sucks , and everyone including our parents just want MARKS , even if we did not learn anything and just memorize it's ok for them, literally all they want is MARKS! ,This should change first And your mom is definitely good 👍,the ppl who made this paper are either out of mind or discriminate women, this is some serious issue,I don't even get how this came till here
Something similar I'd like to draw attention to, class 11 english textbook has a chapter called Ranga's Marriage which discusses the potential marriage between 11years old prepubescent female and a grown up man in his 20s or 30s and promotes paedophilia!
Yeah well, I personally don't think tht story promotes child marriage. Yes, he marries a 11 year old girl. Bt I think tht story revolves more around the narrator, his ramblings nd the humor.
@@preethik6127 Let's just not justify it. It doesn't pass off as an EXCUSE OR JUSTIFICATION for what is printed in the textbook. I agree that the story was of older times but then they should have specified and cited the CURRENT laws regarding marriage, consent and sexual harassment either before or after the chapter atleast. Moreover I still don't understand the need of that particular chapter. And just a fact check there the ages of the characters during marriage and pregnancy are not specified so it can't be ruled out as child marriage. Though in my humble opinion it is inclined to it. Even if the chapter was for humor they could have used it as a nice opportunity to teach students about current laws rather than blatantly ignoring the text.
@@tejalvarma4356 Honestly, I agree. Our English teacher specified that it promotes child marriage and that she dislikes it. We had a discussion about it. Yeah, wt u said is true.
@@preethik6127 You have an excellent teacher then because mine just read the text and explained. But my friends teacher justified it by saying that the ages are not mentioned so it can't be considered as child marriage. Even if literally it isn't but there is no excuse for paedophilia.
@@tejalvarma4356 haha. I do like my English teacher. Nd tht kinda sucks, the whole just reading nd explaining. I mean cmon, it'd English. Some interaction is necessary. This para was most probably written in a sarcastic tone but our CBSE took it seriously and went on to publish it🤦 And if it was not written in a sarcastic tone, then the writer needs serious help.

People would really make shit like andrew tate and political fights go viral, but stuff like this always goes unnoticed. I support the students who actually see what's going on. Thankyou for making this video. Our education system really needs to introspect.
I’m a class 12 student and so far I’ve given 4 exams, the english one for our batch was really confusing in the literature part, it could be interpreted in multiple ways. Many people are complaining about the difficulty of passages as well, it was hard but at least it had distinct answers unlike the literature portion. The maths exam was moderately hard but it was way too lengthy and could not have been completed honestly in the given time. Psychology required critical thinking, physical education was to the point. All in all, just a few answers could have been wrong in the answer key too. I had not been paying much attention to the rising concerns but when a friend showed me this passage I had had enough. It’s unbelievable how it was even let to be put out as an exam, did they really not see this outrage coming?! Just providing grace marks does not make it okay. They should be taught a lesson and need to take more accountability.
Thank you for making a video about it. This is absolutely disgusting and it's been two days since the exam but I still can't get over it. I can't believe how they even approved of this shit. Such a shame!
I also have this passage in English exam on Saturday and I didn't understand this passage due to which my 6 questions were incorrect out of 8 due to weired English but now I am happy because now I will get the marks of those 6 question also 😂😂😂😂and I must say this passage didn't make any sense to come in board exam because it hurts our nation's woman and us too that is childrens and elders..
Another thing that infuriates me is that in my civics textbook ( Total History and Civics, icse ) they always use the pronouns HE while talking about a strong political figure as if they’re assuming that men are the only ones in key political positions , for example if they’re talking about the president’s powers they’ll write stuff like HE can do this and HIS … blah blah when we’ve literally had a female president . This clearly shows that whoever wrote this associates politics with men and thinks that there are no women in politics . This literally so demotivating for young girls , I know it sounds like it’s just a small thing but it’s actually deep rooted patriarchy that influences minds . Just use neutral pronouns and don’t associate politics with men . It’s that simple !
@@abhijeetmangela3749 But the fact is that we study civics to learn laws and systems that apply today, in this era. So implying that men need to be more dominant in politics even in the 21st century is nothing but male chauvinist propaganda. And you're supporting it.
When my sister read this passage in the exam hall, she was pissed af, and rightly so! Everybody should have been! But for many others, this passage just reaffirmed the sexist ideas that we are all surrounded by. (Unconsciously ingrained sexism?) It troubles me to see that young students are more concerned about getting extra marks instead of questioning about why and how was such a regressive passage included in the question paper in the 1st place. Its even more troubling when I see some students demanding extra/bonus marks for having marked the "correct" answers (according to the to the answer key, which also points to a deeply sexist mindset) Like what do you guys even want extra marks for? For aligning to the regressive ideas stated in the passage?!??!?!?!?!? It is very unfortunate that such a passage was allowed in a national exam. I need an apology! And action against the committee that allowed such a passage and ideas to be presented to young impressionable minds.
THANK YOU for putting this out here! It was needed. The paper was absolutely horrible and disgusting. And yes, what's more disgusting is that this was allowed to be put out by the cbse board and teachers! HOW?!! WHY?!!
We would like to see more such vidoes where you talk about things nobody cares to talk about. Why is this so casual that they dare to put such a passage in an exam paper?! This really is infuriating.
When I was in my examination hall, I was literally laughing at how ignorant CBSE is when it comes to topics like this. Just the whole notion that Feminism ruins family, women can't be the dominant ones in the family, women don't know how to discipline children, women always need men to actually hold some power. It's just.. So pathetic.
A few friends in my friend group had gotten that question, and all of us were disgusted/angry. The paragraph opened about teenagers but clearly the adult who wrote that has more petty issues. Edit: Geez, look at the misogynists in the comment section. I feel bad for their mothers/imaginary wives.
The passage was about parents control over children not "children independence" what does that even mean children are meant to be under the control of the parents untill they become adults nothing new about it
When I wrote the exam I was confused af. I thought they took this from some 1950’s guide to perfect family or something . I was giggling in my mind because with one slap and a “I’m your mother” any human can be tamed. But I was too worried about the time to think about this and after the exam was over I was too done with these exams to think about the paper so I just forgot everything. Ya this was just stupid. This whole exam was unorganised and shows how India works. They have 10 people to check if a kid scored 100 marks but it looks like they have only one person to check a question paper in which millions of kids write and depend upon. Even if the English teachers were allowed to get the answer key or correct the papers they could have found the mistakes. They told us that the question paper was for low average kids but hell no. Honestly it wasn’t that we weren’t angry, it was that we are done with this and just want to get it over with. Also frankly cbse only cares about marks.
This unseen passage was just too much for a 10 grade student to understand . Like when I saw the passage my mind was blown away . Hopefully they gave free marks but what about the literature section it was also difficult soo unfair
Hey a 10th CBSE student here, when I got the question paper and was given the 1st 20mins for reading and as this was the 1st question so I started reading this, after reading it exactly 5 times..the only thing that was clear to me was that this is something negative, I was just not able to process that the CBSE gave a very negative paragraph we were never habitual to this kind of perspective as we always since childhood * BELIEVED* that we learn good things and are taught to do good deeds in the school. So it was so confusing to even figure out the answer, almost everybody I came across after the examination was not able to understand what the passage was about.
This is not the first time , infact in hindi there is a unseen passage in class 9 , pointing that the sports is bad for choosing as career.{ salute to CBSE who build the future of India }
I am in 12th and saw this about 10th board rn. Like seriously? CBSE still needs to grow up I guess🙂 so many students depend on it including me rn and they are just like promoting patriarchy in such a way😶
This did not come in my set exam , if it had i wouldn't even attempted the questions or even the whole examination . I got to know about it only when my mother who is a teacher told me that there was a passage which is very "controversial " . Also she asked me how did i not react 'cause she knows I'm a 'feminist' .
Yeah, my school had different papers, and I only knew about this after my friends told me about it. If I had this paper I would have taken the 'wrong' answers on purpose.
The fact that the CBSE officials responsible for making boards papers are very well qualified and many of them having doctorate degrees shows that the ones knowing trigonometric functions , oxidising states of elements and LCR circuit succeed in their lifes when people with common sense and morals doesn't....So try being little bit sexist and go study for clearing JEE and NEET and make sure u don't have morals and common sense, and don't regret loosing ur childhood so that u can study 24/7 and earn in six figures when people who earns less than u enjoy their life cause they know how to love and respect everything they have and everyone around them
I think the teachers who was involved in the whole process was also not able to understand and thought this para is looking difficult let's choose this one 😂
This is extremely disgraceful to publish such sexist ideas in an exam paper and that too when most of the people here have such thinking. Instead of walking towards a better future we are getting dragged back to the dark past...

I gave the paper! Although I scored 8 on 8, it was fkn misogynistic… I am already aware of these thing but this stereotypical passage just got my mood off.
Is it really hard for atleast one of those the hundred teachers involved in setting the question paper to question why such a controversial passage is given in an exam that millions of children of ages 16 to 17 write?? Really?? Is it really that hard to just think for a second?? Its almost laughable coz CBSE has been managing the education of millions of students and setting question papers for many many years and this shows how "good" of a job they do and how "sincere" they are with their work. CBSE really doesn't give two shits about students unless they're pressured to do so and that's a fact🤐
how many people's mentality had got affected, who gona take the responsibility now??? shouldn't they be releasing a press clip of them stating how problematic is that? shouldn't they be conducting seminars in schools correcting that passage and specifically talking about how that's not right? like that's bare minimum, least do that cbse😭
I knew this was coming while writing the exam itself I wonder how such nonsense even got approved in the first place I don't think the person who set this paper even works with cbse
I'm in class 9th rn and have a lot of senior friends from class 10 and when they(the set 1 people) told me about this passage i was baffled like cbse are u in your right mind? Who even prepared the paper I-
this is utter carelessness . in all the board papers either there was a printing mistake , the question papers were given late , the grammar was incorrect and the answer key was always wrong . after all of this how can we even expect to get a " correct " result of what they call a VERY IMPORTANT EXAM for our EDUCATION they are trying to give ?
Can't we interpret this passage as a kind of editorial from 1950s? That would make sense. I am against this paragraph but just thinking of a 'good' way to interpret it as passages may come from historical things or even a historical play (might be positive or negative). Reading something gives you a power to think. You don't need to inculcate those ideas in your mind, you know.
The problem was that there was a question The writer: 1) seems to be a male chauvinist pig / arrogant person. 2) takes a light hearted approach to life 3) is a disgruntled husband 4) has his family's welfare at his heart and according to the answer key the answer is 2

For those who don’t know, this story is about a girl called Kezia. Her father constantly abuses and beats her, and she is completely traumatized and afraid of him. But later on they paint the father as a good person by a huge passage that basically says “the father was just stressed, that’s why he beats her.

(Unconsciously ingrained sexism?)
It troubles me to see that young students are more concerned about getting extra marks instead of questioning about why and how was such a regressive passage included in the question paper in the 1st place.
Its even more troubling when I see some students demanding extra/bonus marks for having marked the "correct" answers (according to the to the answer key, which also points to a deeply sexist mindset)
Like what do you guys even want extra marks for? For aligning to the regressive ideas stated in the passage?!??!?!?!?!?

Honestly I just don't like how CBSE works and I get the 'caring only about marks' vibe too much from them
This unseen passage was just too much for a 10 grade student to understand .
