When Eagle Claw happened and had several helicopter malfunctions. I told my dad about it. He said "they got sand in engines". He was right of course. He flew in Vietnam as a Slick, Huey Cobra and Cobra pilot.
6:28 The pilot of the plane is legendary B-movie actor/character actor Bo Svenson! The most notorious one of those being widely panned "Wizards of the Lost Kingdom" which he is one of the main characters in 1985, the year before playing the pilot role in Delta Force.
absolutely loving your channel. you've picked so many movies I watched growing up, it's like a nostalgia trip. keep up the great work, really appreciate all the effort you put into creating these jems 👍👍👍
I just realized that the hijacking of the plane is based on a real hijacking of the German Landshut flight 181 in 1977 by four members of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine. The search for passengers from Israel, the blocking of the runway which in reality happened in Dubai and even the stewardess seems to be based on Gabriele Dillmann who went above and beyond to care for the passengers during this ordeal. The plane was stormed by German special forces from the newly formed GSG9 unit in Mogadishu, killing 3 of the hijackers and wounding 1. Miraculously no passenger died. Sadly the pilot got shot by the hijackers before this when the plane landed in Aden.
I love all the “Force” movies. Delta Force 1 and 2 Magnum Force Mega Force And both the original Star Wars and prequel trilogies. Get it? I’ll let myself out now.
The Delta Force (1986) is ok for the moment, I've never been a fan, I actually prefer the sequel. Btw the Delta Force soldier that gets killed is one of the bad guys in Avenging Force (1986)
I'm really excited to watch the Delta Force 2. I hear that's the more entertaining one. You are totally right! He is the military dressed guy in Avenging Force. I didn't even realize. Great catch
The happy music in this movie reminds me of the triumphant song they play when Stanley Spadowski gets rescued in the movie UHF, and he's all thrusting his mop into the air victoriously.
So many missed references other than George Kennedy. Bo Svenson (the pilot) was the lead in the original inglorious bastards. Lee Marvin was also in the movie who was the lead in the father of all ensamble commando mission type movies, the dirty dozen. In fact, if memory serves a couple of scenes in delta force pay homage to the original dirty dozen. The villain Robert Forster, famous for the cult classic vigilante among others, played a soldier in Reflection in a Golden Eye. Marlon Brando plays his CO in the movie, who is a secretly gay. In the movie, Brando has the hots for him and wants to bang Private Forster. I guess the trauma of it all made Forster leave the US Army and join a Lebanese terrorists group. Love your channel by the way. Your video make me laugh every time...
Something to point out. During the hostage situation at Entebbe the terrorists, who were from the PFLP and the German Red Cells deliberately separated the Israeli and Jewish hostages from the rest of the passengers. While this attack was meant to force Israel into a prisoner negotiation they were indifferent to whether or not the Jewish passengers were Israeli or not. Even a Holocaust survivor ended up confronting one of the Germans in this regard who continued to disregard the matter relating to the Nazis. So while this film is a typical action movie of the 1980s they did throw in some realism regarding how these terrorists operated.

can't believe you didn't include steve james getting a kiss from one of the male passengers on the plane near the end, chuck is just so 'chuck norris' in this movie, his best bit for me was when he had to get off a balcony so he slides down a cable with one hand while shooting bad guys with his other hand and he just acts like that's a thing he does every day, no big deal, lol, the end fight with abdul is funny too, he doesn't even get a hit on chuck, I think chuck gives him some back hands too just to humiliate him, lol, awesome film.
Eagle Claw didn’t lead to the birth of Delta…Delta was involved in EC. The lack of communication between branches (which ultimately led to this spectacular failure) did however lead to the birth of units like SOAR and ISA…
And eventually SOCOM. Originally SOCOM comprises of the Special Ops Commands of the Army, Navy, and Air Force. Marines didn't want to play ball until the mid-2000s with the creation of MARSOC.
The hijacking sequences, and the actors who played the terrorists, and the lead flight attendant were all brilliant. That was the thing about the Cannon Group. You genuinely didn't know what you were getting with their films. I remember the poster of Runaway Train and thinking at BEST it would be some C+ action drivel, what I got was a powerful philosophical action thriller with some of the most moving and intense acting of the decade. I miss the Cannon Group.
Fun Fact: director/producer Menahem Golan, 1/2 of the legendary ''GoGo Boys'', the owners of Cannon Films (the other was his cousin, Yoram Globus), was a former fighter pilot in the Israeli Air Force and had good connections to the Israeli military. That's why a number of Cannon Films productions were filmed in Israel with technical support from their military. (similar to how Jerry Bruckheimer & Michael Bay get lots of support from the Pentagon). He actually directed a movie about the real-life rescue operation at the Entebbe Airport by Israeli Special Forces in 1976, which was a huge commercial success in Israel. It's called ''Operation Thunderbolt'' and stars Klaus Kinski as the terrorist leader. So basically, he made the same movie again, only this time it was pure fiction and meant to raise morale and improve the public image of the US Special Forces, after that colossal screw-up in Iran. Also, the whole thing where the terrorists separate all the jewish hostages happened in real-life, during the Entebbe hostage situation, so despite all the 80's cheese, there's a degree of realism here.
How can you not mention the obligitory 4 loops of rope that is apparently part of the uniform. It's like someone saw Army dress uniforms and thought all uniforms are like that. This literally became a running joke in Boondock Saints.
I literally only clicked on this video to see if you brought the song up, my brother and I watched this a few years back and they use it in like every action scene it’s so funny. And they did a sad version! Lol it’s literally what we said too. Also I know you’re kidding, but God forgives any sin ;)
The 2 main things to come out of the Eagle Claw debacle was the formation of the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (basically a spec ops helicopter team) and the creation of SOCOM Spec Ops Command. To allow cooperation between different units. However you will notice generally besides embedding Airforce Close Air support guys within teams the different teams do tend work separately. Socom just decides which team is best suited and available for any given mission. This allows teams to develop their own standard procedures and have differing approaches. While this gives Socom options it limits inter-unit operability as different training, styles, procedures etc can lead to confusion and chaos on the battlefield.
Hello again. Enjoyed the review. If I may make a suggestion for a review I suggest rising sun starring Sean Connery and Wesley snipes. It’s a buddy cop action movie with the two of the as the leads and I believe they take on the yakuza. Also Sean Connery’s character is quite knowledgeable of Japanese culture and also speaks Japanese in the movie I believe
I believe the only change you could of done was at the end during the farewell, was then the DF were leaving and everyone else were celebrating, was the moment where they were carrying their fallen comrade in arms.
Ah the good ol' days before 9/11 (lol) where airport security was a joke and you could just board a plane with guns, knifes, bombs and easily hijack it.
Alright not sure if you know who this score is done by but I love how much you mention the music throughout. Because it is some of the earliest work by one Alan Silvestri. I fell in love with this song when I was like 4. And now…well just look up his credentials and u will be blown away
Just found your channel and damn what a pleasant surprise that you wrote something about this movie. I actually have a huge soft spot for these 80s movies and damn this one is like the prototype of the cheesy American action movie. Simple as fuck story that would be ridiculous today and some crazy action. This is the essential "Turn off your brain movie", but unlike modern movies like transformers etc. this actually delivers a convincing picture that is full of love by the people who worked on it.
So glad you found the channel! and YES. we don't have these movies anymore. everything needs depth and complicated stories. But I love just old school. We are good, they are bad. lets mess em up!
Btw just tid bit thing. Delta was already established before Eagle Claw. Delta came about due to rising terrorism of the 1970s. And the Colonel Beckwith you mentioned who served in Vietnam and as exchange officer with the British SAS. And that's where him and another Col. got the idea for Delta Force. And then after operation eagle claw we see the formations of SEAL Team 6 or official DEVGRU. And also not USSOCOM but JSOC was created to be the operational handler of all special OPERATIONS. SOCOM didn't come up until 1986 or 87 with the passage of the Goldwater- Nichols Act. Making SOCOM the unified command to all special operations and special forces groups. And then last but not least also born from eagle claw was the 160th SOAR, yep the same group from blackhawk down.
LOL 12:20 to 12:36 12:39 to 12:45. The Delta Force is THE FORCE that just manifests wherever a domestic counter-Terrorist mission erupts. Use the FORCE CHUCK! Use the FORCE! Are we sure this isn't just another clever military recruitment movie? HEY KIDS! Join the army, you'll be DELTA FORCE! You'll have a motorcycle and some slick upbeat heroic theme music. BAH NEH NEH NAH NUH NUH NAH NAH NEH NAH! So they run off to join the Army because they think they'll be Delta Force until they wind up a cook or whatever.

I’ve never seen delta force but this delta strain of Covid has has me receiving it. Calling it Covid’s delta force because this strain busted people down like a special forces unit.
Lol this is dark but oddly fitting.
@@RedEyeReviews haha that’s very kind of you to say
This is like Airplane!
(1980), but all serious.
This movie just does it for me.
Btw check out more movies with Robert Forster, he's been in several good movies.Just a few examples to check out: Vigilante (1982), Walking the Edge (1985), Alligator (1980), The Banker (1989)
Done and done!
Jackie Brown
Such an underrated actor.
I miss when AMC, TBS, TNT, etc. would run this movie about 50 times a year on cable. Oh to be an 80s-90s kid again!
When he goes swimming, Chuck Norris doesn't get wet -the water gets Chuck'd.
I have a friend that absolutely hates that song evere since we've been watching the movie the first time. So when i feel this irresistable urge to be an asshole and annoy him or piss him off i play it or make a note about the song. Works every damn time)
can't believe you didn't include steve james getting a kiss from one of the male passengers on the plane near the end, chuck is just so 'chuck norris' in this movie, his best bit for me was when he had to get off a balcony so he slides down a cable with one hand while shooting bad guys with his other hand and he just acts like that's a thing he does every day, no big deal, lol, the end fight with abdul is funny too, he doesn't even get a hit on chuck, I think chuck gives him some back hands too just to humiliate him, lol, awesome film.
Fun fact: Liam Neeson is actually in this movie in a blink and you'll miss him role.
@@automaticninjaassaultcat3703 At least now we know where he learned his particular set of skills.
We were the first wild card team to win the Superbowl. After the game I drank some champagne.
This was based off a real life hijacking where they killed the navy guy and dumped him on the ramp
What do Deltas do when they can’t find a horny motorcycle? Ah, that sound wrong.
Hahaha
That score is literally the best part of this movie! Lol
Oh agreed. It was stuck in my head for a good 3 days after making this video.
Marines didn't want to play ball until the mid-2000s with the creation of MARSOC.
wow, I just found out Liam Neeson is in this film, he's one of the delta force guys, doesn't speak though
Wait for real?!
Lmao the first half of this movie is just scenes showing Chuck is getting closer and closer to kick everyone's ass
Y'all Critics Got issues. The music is even what I dig with the movie. I'm fact I still watch this. Ugh
Haha, the pillowcase infrantry! Awesome!
I'm so glad I found this channel ! Great review of a classic.
Thank you! I'm glad you found it too
I never knew Max Cherry could get so angry
How can you not mention the obligitory 4 loops of rope that is apparently part of the uniform. It's like someone saw Army dress uniforms and thought all uniforms are like that. This literally became a running joke in Boondock Saints.
lol that is amazing. i honestly never even thought of it until you pointed it out
This movie has a kick-ass soundtrack by Alan Silvestri.
Yeah, Chuck Norris
Please say something about the thumb wave
Hello again. Enjoyed the review. If I may make a suggestion for a review I suggest rising sun starring Sean Connery and Wesley snipes. It’s a buddy cop action movie with the two of the as the leads and I believe they take on the yakuza. Also Sean Connery’s character is quite knowledgeable of Japanese culture and also speaks Japanese in the movie I believe
Thank you! So glad you enjoyed it. I have never seen that movie before! But I'll had it to the list
@@RedEyeReviews I can link u to a page so you can see a synopsis
FYI Sean Connery’s character in this movie is named John Conner. Do with that info what you will

@@jt808ful oooh spicy.
But without actually BECOMING Japanese like in You Only Live Twice.
I just stopped by to say.......how dare you
Haha appreciate you
Good stuff man, have you done missing in action yet
Lee Marvin. Now there was a man who could drink.
You have to review the Bill Goldberg movie Check Point. Keep doing the lord's work!! 🤣
Oh Goldberg! Done and done!
Thank you :)
I believe the only change you could of done was at the end during the farewell, was then the DF were leaving and everyone else were celebrating, was the moment where they were carrying their fallen comrade in arms.
Ah man, missed oppurtunity at 6:10 not calling them "Pillow-stinians"
Oh damn that's clever
6:32..Because he doesn't sleep?
😂
Ah the good ol' days before 9/11 (lol) where airport security was a joke and you could just board a plane with guns, knifes, bombs and easily hijack it.
Also starring…. Lee Marvin’s eyebrows
Alright not sure if you know who this score is done by but I love how much you mention the music throughout. Because it is some of the earliest work by one Alan Silvestri. I fell in love with this song when I was like 4. And now…well just look up his credentials and u will be blown away
It's such a great song lol
The "lipstick" line fantastic!
It's mind boggling to know that the dude who made this theme song was the SAME DUDE who composed the avengers soundtracks.
LOL 12:20 to 12:36
12:39 to 12:45.
Haha right?! I could totally buy this as a recruitment video
