Excellent overall review. It's especially valuable when a reviewer takes a shoe to 100 miles or more. Some go just 20, and some go 50, but 100 is the real guage to know if it's worth buying.
thank you! this definitely held up well over those 100 miles. i'm impressed at how consistent it performed - only real weakness was that 22 mile long run and 5 minute pace ranges for me
Your high mileage really lets you get these shoes some serious wear very quickly. It does give your opinions a lot of credibility though; especially with shoes that need to break-in. You also give some legit predictions on durability, since you're hard on your shoes.
Just copped these! I just started my running shoes rotation with Adizero SL’s to begin with, and have added these in my size 9us. Got these for every day runs, to improve running and get more enjoyment out of it compared to the Adizero. Just took them out for a spin and they feel awesome!! I definitely noticed too that I want to run musch faster (compared to Adizero) and that I am a heel striker (at faster paces). They seem to have good rocker and pretty decent pop at off the toes, but need to keep testing them further. I’ll keep up my running and eventually will be aiming to cop Adizero Adios Pro 3, as I’m excited to try those out. (Possibly will add Boston 12 or ASICS Superblast) one day for something with a bit more pop to try out
Great review. I love my speed 3s and have had 2 pairs but 300 miles is the max. My lowest ever mileage shoe was also a nimbus, the 23. By 280 miles it felt like I was running with bricks strapped to my feet, never again! The novablast is the only asics shoe I would buy.
Hey Yowana, I don’t know if you’ve ever done this or addressed it perhaps. But have you tried doing what you have with the speed 4 then come back to the shoe a month or so later and see if it’s different? I personally don’t know, and wondering if the foam either feels different or “resets” etc. Just due to the foam having time to decompress a little bit and making larger air bubbles/air pockets because they’ve already been compressed.
Always love your video. If you ever build out your shoe matcher tool or want to do a video on wide Toe box shoes. I have been looking for a long lasting daily trainer for my son with a wide toe box and he didn’t like altra so we went with the topo cyclone but the outsole looks like it will not last long. But seems hard to find specs on toe box sizes .
Just came across the channel. You covered it all... subbed for sure. Kind of a bummer in my opinion on the 4. The Speed 1 and 2 was magic. The speed 3 (in my opinion) was not.. and it sounds like saucony is moving even further from those first iterations
great review. I do get 500mi out of my S3's.... although I'm a lot lighter and slower than you. and a mid-footer. But I find that the outsole holds up pretty well, as does the support and cushion.
I’m 6’2” about 210 lbs and won’t be doing anything more around 10K. Would you recommend these for daily use shoes that I can pick up the pace with when needed?
Every time I see a reviewer trying to fold these plated shoes in half I cringe. Those plates can snap and be rendered useless. But good review I enjoyed it.
I have the same issue in the endorphin Saucony shoes..something isn't quite right with the last shape and pushes the little toe into the outside of the shoe..plenty of room on the other side of the shoe..it's only in the endorphin line..only other one did that was the 1st hoka rocket and I couldn't use it..the sensation is exactly the same in the endorphin line..
I wish I had found your video before I just bought the speed 4's. I went through two pairs of speed 3s and I get the same exact callus on the outside of my left toe. I didn't know they made a wider version. The other thing I'm noticing with the speed 4's is I'm experiencing hotspots
Damn dude, I noticed the creasing in the rear stack on your set and I don’t see that on speed 3s until around 250 miles (I got two pairs over 300 miles). Saucony is my fav brand of all time but I’m enjoying trying some other brands for a while. Prob won’t pick this up for a while based on your thoughts cuz it’s not all that different. Then again, you’re an aggressive heel striker and I’m a midfoot guy. I outweigh you by ab 15 lbs at 5,7. I’m a retired bodybuilder/chode. My cadence is also in 160-170s but you run way faster and longer than me (so more power is likely).
just took another look at them right now and the rear creasing isn't as bad. haven't run in them for 24 hours so the foam may have needed some time to rebound - it did perform pretty consistently well throughout the runs though even on the double days. but yeah it's not too different from the 3s so if you still have life left in those i wouldn't get these yet. and i'm 😂😂😂 at your self-description
Yes Altra vanish tempo is the closest zero drop shoe! No plate but it has a bouncy race foam like this. Altra Vanish carbon 2 is the only zero drop race shoe right now - haven't tried personally but have heard good things. Another option with a moderate drop is the New Balance SC Trainer v3. It has a 6mm drop but feels relatively flat and isn't too harsh - it's the new balance competitor to this shoe
Do you think these would be good for me? I am a 45-year-old male about 250 pounds and I normally walk/run on the treadmill two or 3 miles every other day.
I wouldn't recommend this shoe for that - it's not the most comfortable, so if you'll be doing a lot of walking I'd go for a more cushioned and smoother feeling shoe. My top options for that would be the brooks ghost max 2 or Saucony hurricane 24. Here are the written reviews I did on those! Hope that helps www.supwell.io/shoes/saucony-hurricane-24 www.supwell.io/shoes/brooks-ghost-max-2
I’m still not 100% on them. But I think it’s because I used them for a recovery run after my half marathon this past week which as you mentioned isn’t ideal. I’m nervous about using them for my 10k race this weekend and may just stick with my tried and true speed 3s until I find my grove with these.
Congrats on the half! And yeah neither are great for recovery runs but the speed 3s are a little better for me for relaxed running. I actually think you might like the Speed 4 if you try it for the 10k this weekend - but I also am mindful of not running in new gear on race day if it's gonna throw me off haha if you are racing a lot this year it might be worth it to try the carbon plated pro 3 or pro 4 too. The extra pop is nice for race day
Thank you! Since my start of my racing journey (Aug. 2023) all I’ve used are the speed 3s but I do plan on adding the pro 3s into my rotation for races and an easy run shoe. I got accepted into both Berlin and Chicago 😭. But I will run today and tomorrow to see if it’s worth using the speed 4’s for Sunday’s 10k.
@Yowana , sounds like we have the same width left feet = i also struggled with the left shoe on Speed 1, Speed 2 and i assume it will be the same with 4 🤷♂️
Great video, thanks! I am seriously thinking of getting these as my do-it-all pair after seeing your review. How would you compare it to the Endorphine Pro 3 / 4? I am a pretty light runner. Thanks
Pro 3 is much stiffer and puts you on your toes more. These are better for everyday running and slower paces while pro is better for fast running, workouts and runs 2+ hours - for a do-it-all shoe the Speed is a much better choice!
Great review! Any thoughts on this compared to the novablast 4? Obviously plated vs no plate , but this new version is sounding less speed oriented and very similar. I as well am one of the ones that felt the speed 2 had the snap albeit not super stable and the speed 3 went more daily than anything. Seems like the es4 and nb4 would crossover a lot ?
haven't run in it yet but my friend kam has the novablast 4 and likes it. definitely better for slower everyday runs - speed 4 will be a little faster for most people. i'll get his thoughts though and report back
@@supwell Great thanks ! I’ve been enjoying the nb4 and have went through three pairs of the es3. Probably add a pair for uptempo runs. Keep up the great reviews!
It's the REI collab colorway. It went up for sale on REI a few weeks ago but then they took it down - I'm guessing it will be up again within the next few weeks. Official release on Running Warehouse is 2/29 so other retailers will likely be similar
Great question and I should get a full comparison up soon but this is better for fast running and the novablast is better for everyday miles and relaxed running. So if you want a fast workout shoe or even a race shoe, I'd choose this one - but if you want something comfortable for long runs and cruising along, novablast 4 is a better choice
I think the official name is atom/portal. It's only available through REI (or will be again once they put it back up). REI has a similar colorway on the ride 17 as well
Right now I use the bob revolution flex double stroller! They are on the version 3 now but I think we have the 2. I would suggest buying used on Facebook marketplace like we did - there's usually some lightly used ones at a much better price than brand new
My speed 3's made it 400 miles and are having problems already. I don't think ill buy another pair of "speed" shoes. I know these shoes aren't supposed to last very long. But 400 miles. Come on. Lace loop problems. Insole problem. The sewing in the shoes walls are coming undone. Im running half marathon distances, training for a marathon. The sp3 didn't make it 3 months.
If you're looking for a durable speed training shoe, check out the Boston 12. I have mine at nearly 300 miles and it looks and feels nearly brand new. The endorphin Speed 3/4 and PEBA foam in general is not the most durable for me
I like to mention my size, running mechanics, paces and what types of runs I do in a shoe to give context around how I've used the shoe - so runners watching can understand their experience might be different if they are running different paces, with a different footstrike, etc. Thanks for watching my videos and I appreciate the engagement 🙌🏽
ridiculous that you can go through the sole in a few weeks, if you run 100 miles a week you'd be replacing your shoes 17 times a year! Think these manufacturers need to focus more on the longevity of their shoes, especially their carbon plated training shoes, even if it's just from an environmental perspective, in the last few months I've worn through the outersole of a pair of Endorphin 3 in 6 weeks and a pair of Adidas Boston 12"s in 7 weeks, have started buying cheaper non plated training shoes, currently running in Puma Nitro Velocity 3's, not only because they're cheaper to buy but because they just wear out less quickly, going through $300 (Australian) pair of shoes every month and a half just isn't financially viable.
I have run about 50 miles in january and you have done 100 miles in this already? man you actually RUN.
We now have 100-mile review already, months before they go on sale, awesome lol.
The Endorphin 4 looks really amazing in my eyes 😍🔥
I really love this kind of fire design 🙌🔥
