kyrgios slap forehand
Sampras pretty much redefined the half volley around the service line, including incredible winners. Worth looking at those for possible inclusion.
I think Federer also invented the fake drop shot drive forehand
AIR K😊
The Longa shot
The fake drop shot

That look on Becker's face never gets old 😂
Becker: Wtf is Federer turning tennis into
@@anseinueseima408nope he was like when us open come I'm gonna make nole hit him in the face and oh boy did that work? Yup it made Roger stop using it 😂
lmfaoo
Pete Sampras made that racquet look like a feather! It's like watching a pitcher or a basketball player with the wrist work and snap! So unique, one of the only guys I've ever seen in tennis have that
So true. And his ProStaff was a pretty damn heavy thing.
It was, granted it was a small raquet at 85squi but it was a robust frame + he coated his raquets with led tape to increase weight
Yes, I wrote an article in 2021 called "Pete Sampras, The Right Hander Who Played Like A Left Hander". He modelled his game on Rod Laver, and he got more swing on his shots and flick of the wrist often, mimicking a left hander. I think it made his game look unique even if people didn't understand why it looked a bit different.
I am intrigued by the Shapovalov jump backhand. You can see he does not use them for looksies, but each and everyone in the example was one where he could hit it at exactly the spot he wanted: slightly in front of him and in a sharp corner out of the court. Because he is so high in the air, he can aim it downwards and his racket almost flat. It's beautiful and way less risky than you would think.
Every one handed backhand player knows our weakness; high shots above the shoulder. It's why Nadal was able to neutralise Fed; his topspin pushed every shot so high that Roger had to take it early or not at all. Jumping helps with that; although you lose footwork control you have to unit turn and plant your feet for a solid one hander anyway so you lose less time than you think. If a more consistent player than Shapo tried it it could be a legitimately solid shot
@@rosePetrichorBetter said impossible
@@rosePetrichor Yeah, I feel the pain as a 1handed backhander as well. Serve with good kick spin on my backhand and I'm a goner in the rally that follows.
The real beauty in Becker's diving is that he stuck the landing every time. Lol. Was just a treat watching him back in the day. Boom Boom Becker.
Not only that, but the man got back up and continued the point rapidly
Every Gael Monfils shot is a new shot hahaha
I never interpreted Shapo's jumping backhand as a mere attempt at stylishness. I always thought he was trying to generate more power -- somewhat akin to a serve.
I think it is the sharp angle you can make what he is after. Everytime he uses it, it goes cross court out of the other player's reach.
@@Funkytrip73 Yeah, that too for sure.
Nadal's shot against Ljubicic, as brilliant as it was, was not a banana shot.
Is it just me or the crowd in the 80s and 90s was more enthusiastic and stadiums were packed!
I think the jumping one handed backhand gets too much reputation as a trick shot. It’s super helpful as a one hander to have another option if the ball catches you out of your strike zone
Fabrice Santoro was such a fun player to watch a magician on the court.
lets face it, he was the freaking pusher if there ever was one xd
@@jeffrey5602he didn't hit it hard, but every chance he got he rushed to the net. I believe "pusher" is not a great way to describe him
Roger invented stuff every time he played. A master genius and improvisor.
Djokovic is his daddy

I'm a simple guy. I see Federer on the thumbnail, I upvote faster than John Isner's serve.
😂😂😂😂 that makes two of us
In addition to the banana shot, Nadal also invented the awkward fist pumping with his leg...
Pablo Cuevas on the overhead smash no look tweener drop shot (versus Tsitsipas)? Cuevas came up with many no look shots that everyone copied.
I miss Federer so much. The TRUE GOAT!!!
true goat without a single stat to back it up.
@@vvs4804I think due to rivalry with Federer both Nadal and Djokovic became great, especially in case of Djokovic

@@vvs4804 Novak fans cared very little about the grand slam total until he matched Federer's. In 2015 it was 'Roger might have all the records but Novak has a good H2H so he's the best!!' Stop pretending like you're any more objective than anyone else, lol.
In fact,SABR made roger win Cincinnati 2015
He didn’t even play in Cincinnati 2017
Do you mean in 2015?
2015*
Yeah my bad guys
Most versatile player ever..strong in every aspect!
Santoro didn't invent double-handed forehand. It was always a thing. Thats how you start playing tennis and he stuck with it.
That’s not how you start playing tennis. For sure not
Even our 4 year olds do not learn to play with 2 handed forehands. Source: My brother is a tennis teacher
Well yes, he did not invent it because Monica Seles also played that way.
@@Funkytrip73change brother
Hans gildemeister is the first player Who played with two hands on both sides..
basically the banana forehand work like hit the shot inside out pushing the ball up with racket facing towards ground, works well with low ball or perfect slice low ball
I remember a clip from Dubai Open where the commentator was shocked at Roger’s backhand-lob-smash-volley, whatever that is. That was a unique shot too.
But yeah, there’s just so many great shots that Federer has hit throughout his career. Incredible career!
He hit that once. Only once.
@@TheseHoesAreLoyal hes hit that many times
@@DaTShot we're talking about a backhand smash/volley hit by Federer as a lob floating over the opponent's head. He hit it once against Youzhny at 2006 Dubai and that was it. Do I need to explain any further? I know tennis way more than you do. So just shut up
Learned a lot of new things.
Racket handle shot = career goals
Slam dunk and banana are the best looking shots
Can't believe no one tried to do SABR in tennis until Federer
McEnroe
You can't call it SABR if he's not Roger
It used to be called "chip & charge" back in the old days.
i used to be able to hit what would look like a serve down the middle but i would be a little fast and hit it off the frame for an ace wide, started to do it on purpose occasionally. drove a few people nuts.
5:19 that looks cool like a Mario tennis super technique 😂
Nobody has done the slam dunk other than Sampras.
Monfils
@@amphiprionoccelaris5198 No way near Sampras man...
@@tech_rn That wasn't your statment.
Federer
He wasn't the first to do it neither the last (Brown, Monfils, Roger...)
Roger Federer sneak attack the best one
Kyrgios didn't invent the tweener underarm serve. Bernard Tomic did, and even aced Kyrgios with it on match point in an exhibition match
@tennistv Marcelo Rios was doing the jumping backhand when Shapo was a toddler.
Someone watched Cult…
Tennis Video
I did
PART 2 Should include Krgios 90 degree smash that he did by rotating the racquet.
El Bublik se inventa cada cosa luego 😂
Hans Gildemester played permanent two handed forehand in late seventies.
3:26 Me after drinking one drop of Kingfisher Ultra
how about the paradorn srichaphan split?
I know for the purposes of this video Nadal is in there for the banana shot. But as a right hander Sampras hit amazing banana forehands throughout his career. So Nadal did not invent it. Others did it too but Jeff Tarango (leftie) always claimed to have taught Pete the shot when they were teenegers. Mainly because Pete wanted to emulate Rod Laver
greaat idea!
The handle shot by Bublik is just so silly lol. Surely someone does a side racket shot at some point.
I mean ofcourse. So does all the other shots in this video. But they are the one who made it popular. And bublik did that on a real tournament..
Sampras serve scary!!
I can highly recommend 3:27 for the best French reactions 👏👏👏😅
Roger made every player practice the tweener and it's common place now.
Combine all those shots = Gael Monfils. We miss you Brother!!!
tomic started the tweener underarm tho
When was the last time Shapovalov hit a jumping backhand? Feels like he never does it anymore
3:42 invented? Pancho Segura and Monica Seles were using long before Fabrice
The dive: Davidovich 🧏🏼
Did Fabrice Santoro invent the two-handed forehand? Monica Seles enters the room...
How could you forget about Marcelo Rios and his jumping backhand?….
I’ve been doing the “SABR” since I was 12 in 1976…before Roger was born.
So?? None of the shots in this video is originally "invented" as the player who did it the first time. But they are the ones who made it popular as their style and actually get them to the top level.
Nick’s tweeners too
Come on.. jumping backhand was Ríos
In 1980 Gene Mayer reached #4 in the world with a double-handed forehand.
McEnroe invented the sabr (fed fan)
Falta el "Longashot" de Marcelo Tomás Barrios Vera
Unfortunately, for Becker, those dives caused him to have both hips replaced later on in life. It wasn't worth it, because all that prize money from all those dives still landed him in the slammer... so sad
I think "Signature Shots" would have been a better title
I think it's a travesty to see Shapo's jumping OHBH made the list, while Marcelo Rios' jumping 2HBH didn't make it.
Only the best forever RF
Looks like Santoro use to play cricket
Hans Gildemeister already played in the 80's with two-handed backhand and forehand... I'm sorry for santoro, but he's not the first, nor is the two-handed forehand his invention
Bublik is such a troll
I know it's famous, iconic and all... but Shapovalov wasn't the one to actually invent the jumping one-handed; Mauresmo did that in 2007, against Henin. Shapovalov just turned it into a trademark.
What about the Tomic fake forehand drop shot against Julien Benneteau?
Perdón pero que invento Nadal? El drive?
Didn´t Monica Seles have a two-handed forehand 🧐?
I think Federer is a bit embarrassed by the SABR in retropect.
who is this player against nadal ? 2:14 nice backhand with one hand
It's Ivan Ljubičić
@@MrPiotrV yes1!!!! thanks!
Apparently Kyrgios made the SABR
if only Roger could have dive on 40:15 in that Wimby final 2019 he would have been GOAT
It's ok to be stupid just don't display it on the internet 😂
@@nt9854 have you ever heard of irony ?
Rafa curling his banana.
Dustin Brown must be included here,

What about Wolf´s left handed passing forehand?? That was insane considering he´s right handed
It has to be consistent, as he didn't do it many times, but only once (which is a tremendous shot)!
Daniil Medvedev Christopher Eubanks Guys where is the review of such a great match????? Guys, how is this possible??????
3:27 and you can thank me later
Frustratingly Fed backed off in the SABRagajsnt Djoker in the slams even though statistically it showed it was working even against him
I thought it was sneak attack backhand return
but I see its also forehands
Meh. Recency effect is powerful. Maybe the underhand tweener serve is a new invention, but everything else has been done before.

Pretty sure Sampras didn't invent jumping to get to higher balls.
Unhappy that there is no novak
Novak does not make the most inventive or innovative shots, but he's definitely the most consistent and mentally tough player out there.
@@graceyl1224 that's true , ig he is in the next part
@@graceyl1224 He had one though: his backhand crosscourt passing shot while sliding. I never seen anybody doing that in every surface.
@@graceyl1224many of these shots were done before the players shown in this video did them, but I’m not sure if anyone slide into their backhand on hard/grass courts like Djokovic did
None of these players invented those shots, of course. And obviously there was a felt need to include Nadal in the list, though that forehand is hit by many, many players, and has been for ages. Doesn't take away from his brilliance, just pandering by Tennis TV
All these invenctions are effective. Only the bublick shot is just stupid.
Actually kyrigos invented the sabr
Djokovic is totally helpless against Federer's SABR 👏👏👏
only first couple of times , later he killed him with lobs
jumping onehand was still a phau invention not shapo
Boris Becker Dive????? Are you joking.... er war nicht mal geboren als das dive herauskam
Net rushing or chip n' charge is not really that new.
Fair point. But chip n' charge was hardly ever used in the 2010s. As the racket technology advanced, the serves just got too fast. Surely Roger didnt invent this, rather re-invented, somewhat surprisingly.
Plus he didnt really slice those returns, his strokes were pretty flat.
This rists must choice AIR K.
Federer invented the jump backhand
Novak was created WSR
Djokovic should start
1. Federer don’t invent the SABR lol
2. SABR got destroyed by Novak at the us open :)
Seriously, who makes these videos? The SABR was not a new shot whatsoever. Just watch some of John McEnroe's matches in the 80s. The banana shot has been played by a thousand different players over the years, notably Martina Navratilova and Boris Becker.
First one 😂😍
