If youre digging Aes and want to do a deep dive react to the songs Daylight and Nightlight, both songs have the same themes and share a lot of lines, but are portrayed though different lenses.

@@SaeedReacts. Even worse when you consider that they were specifically bred to serve and live among humans, and then abandoned and treated like shit when they weren't needed anymore. That's why they live in cities and not forests, that's why they have less fear of humans than other birds.
They went from being heroes for delivering messages in war to being flying rats and living off of scraps.

And it even ties back into the theme of the album. Pigeons were replaced by new technology.

Glad you're enjoying Aes man. I think a lot of people miss the bigger picture of this song at first - IMO it paints a vivid picture of the ups and downs of ADHD. It's beautifully subtle; the 'point' of the song is this hyperfixation on Pigeons, of all things, but by the second verse he's gushing about Da Vinci and obsessing over what limitless creative possibility he might entertain. Then back to pigeons, lets draw 1000, stays up all night and has drawn a half a pigeon poorly.
My relationship with ADHD has always had these ups and downs, it can be really fun to learn so much about random things, but you also feel 'stretched thin' creatively quite often.
Anyways, been really enjoying your style and demeanor! Any chance you might be interested in checking out this band called GEESE? Absolutely incredible album by them '3D Country' dropped in 2023, they're a group of super young 20-year-olds that make up this punk band. They tried out a new style for this country album and I swear brother, it is one of the most fun, creative, and unique albums I have heard in a long time and every song has been impossible to stop replaying. It's insane to me their channel still has sub-50k views on many songs.
    Thanks for the content brother

I think you’re applying addhd characteristics according to narrative song structure in general rather than Aes deliberate attempt at reliving the experience. Regardless, it’s pretty damn accurate. Question though, do you think people that don’t have this disorder, don’t experience the same phenomena?

    • @briantbb2749
      @briantbb2749 5 місяців тому

@@TraditionalHippie That might be the case, but the suggestive evidence becomes so overwhelming it really begs the question of possibility. What, then, is the meaning of the chorus?
'Phone, wallet, coffee, keys, lighter' up and down both ways backwards sounds a lot like a checklist made by someone so distracted by these creative endeavors they can't keep up with their essential items (ADHD)
For me, the whole song is laid out beautifully for this purpose. Verse 3 sees the structure of the whole creative endeavor really buckle under the weight of itself, as his friends struggle to follow the oddly specific vision and clearly suggest he's getting ahead of himself. To me, Aes' fractured confidence paints the image starkly beyond question; 'See the point was always celebrate the individual vessel, that I pitched a package deal at all is pretty disrespectful... Plus a thousand is a lot.'
For me it relates so much to this familiar experience it literally made me laugh out loud at first listen. Looking at the lyrics as a whole, I struggle to see any other strong reason for them all being assembled exactly the way they are.
That being said, I can concede I guess it's possible the song is focused on hyperfixation, but ADHD is literally the first thing that comes up if you Google that word, with Autism being a close second.
And plus, it's Aes, could it /really/ be about pigeons at a complete surface level? I just find it exceedingly funny to point out that while operating under my presented theory, keep in mind the second verse in this song about pigeons, he comes in swinging HARD in the opening of Verse 2 about Da Vinci. I can't help but laugh as I imagine first time listeners going 'hell yeah this is hard... Wait what? What happened?' hahaha
It just feels... So reminiscent of ADHD to me. Like his creativity is this giant firehose of ideas and energy, so pressurized and powerful that all he can do is hold on like a little cartoon character as it blasts and throws him around, like the best he can do is futilely try and aim it to focus on something important in the current moment. So you get 'verses' and ideas like this Da Vinci one thrown in this pigeon song that are dripping with creativity while seemingly being made with creative direction only being an afterthought.
I think of course it's possible that people without similar disorders can experience similar phenomena, but I also think that things like ADHD and Autism operate on a spectrum, and everyone deals with and experiences them differently, and the question of whether or not people without similar disorders experience this is neither a focus of the song nor my analysis of it. Perhaps it could be that I'm applying my personal meaning of experience with ADHD to aspects of the song, but I think it stands to reason the song was made for people, like me, who experience this on any level of the aforementioned spectrum, as I have no doubt Aesop isn't one of them in some form or other.
... I'm laughing pretty hard at myself at the end of writing this, as I look up and see that what I've written has proven my point in more ways than one... Lmao

Youre getting a decent idea of how Aes words and phrases things with these story telling songs, so thats good! If you want to hear some great flows and cadences, listen to Coffee, Five Fingers, ZZZ Top, Gauze...
If you're really digging Aes and want to see the depth and skills this man possesses, check out his earlier stuff with Sick Friend, Hold the Cup, Spare a Match, Big Bang... lol, his catalog is flawless, just remember to pull some lyrics up!

@@SaeedReacts. That's another filtering track for me, much like Big Bang. I feel like he's trying way too hard to alienate the squares on his earlier projects, and the vibe is taking a hit because of it.
From 2005 onwards he has quite the shift in listenability, imho.
Good luck, and have fun with it (:

This track is adhd in lyrical form. His initial huge swell of wanting to do a massive idea, next verse is a total sidetrack getting in to Leonardo da Vinci, to third verse telling a friend about the idea and being questioned on it making him realize he was never going to do it in the first place "I ain't even make a dozen, I've been eying other things". I'm not saying it was his idea to represent adhd (or even if he does / does not have it) but damn.. that's pretty much my life. Find a cool thing, hyperfocus for days/weeks/months, then one morning you don't even like it anymore, on to the next.
Either way, more Aes! Hope you and yours are warm, full, and happy.
