Stardust: Matthew Vaughn’s Underrated Fantasy Epic Is A Gem

- Director Matthew Vaughn is known for making gangster movies and comic book adaptations. Producing Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels and making his directorial debut with Layer Cake paved the way for bigger projects: Kick-Ass, X-Men: First Class, the Kingsman franchise, Argylle. But in between the gangsters and the over-the-top heroics, he decided to make a fairy tale. Based on the writing of popular author Neil Gaiman, the film tells of witches, unicorns, flying ships, lightning catchers, and a falling star... that’s actually a person. Released in 2007, the movie we’re talking about is called Stardust. And it’s time for it to be Revisited.

Stardust is a perfect double-bill with The Princess Bride
It’s definitely one of my go-to double features
Holy shit. It is.
It's the modern day Princess Bride and very very underrated. It's such a great film
The Princess Bride feels very timeless. It doesn't really feel like an 80's movie, but it also doesn't feel like a modern movie.
Though I feel I must point out to you, that at this point, we're only a few years away for the time between 'The Princess Bride' and 'Stardust', and 'Stardust' and now to be the same. It's a 2007 movie; it'll be old enough to vote next year.
One of the best epic fantasies of all times! A wonderful movie! 🤩🥰
TRISH-TRIN😂😂
Also this film gave me childhood joy. I thought of Willow and Princess Bride while enjoying this one as well.
This movie was my entire childhood, it was everything that I wanted in a fantasy adventure, and more. In addition to Daredevil, we had future Superman, Henry Cavill, as a potential suitor of Victoria's.
The movie also features Catwoman and Murray from Joker.
One of my all time favorite movies. It's one of the rare instances where the film is so much better than the book.
I saw this advertised on different channels and never felt like it was worth watching. Now, knowing who everyone is and how it's compared to the Princess Bride, I'll watch it when I go to sleep tonight. Thanks, gentlemen, for putting stuff like this out there. You should be getting paid for the promotion 😂😂😂😂
I discovered Stardust completely by accident. I bought the DVD while on a business trip because I was bored and I thought that a fairie tale for adults would be a fun way to kill some time. I was in a town with nothing to do after work hours and figured a movie would be a great diversion. I was BLOWN AWAY with how well done it was. The casting was perfect, the acting was perfect, and every technical aspect of the movie was perfect. I was drawn into the world of Wall and Stormhold and was on the edge of my seat during all the exciting parts. I never read the book or the illustrated comic, so I wasn't aware of how the story was changed, but I don't think I have missed anything. I watch this movie at least once a month and it never gets old. I recommend it to anyone, and have done so often.
Huge favourite of mine. Saw it on the big screen multiple times during its initial release.
Great movie. It is one of my favorites. Everyone I have watched it with has loved it.
Fantastic film!
This was an epic movie. Great from start to finish. Personally, one of my top three favorites
Thanks for the spotlight on this movie. Such an underrated gem and the perfect date night movie!
Great movie with a great cast and a great story.
this movie was really fun. we ran across it on a streaming service completely randomly and but the kids and I loved it! should have known it was Neil Gaiman; that man is incredible. thank you claudia schiffer!
when claire danes glowed in this movie, she was SOOOOO beautiful
I loved Stardust! It one of those movies I'll never forget. A very unique movie.
This is one of my wife's favorite movies. We named our first son Tristan.
Jane Goldman has done loads of successful adaptations. Very recognisable with her long dyed red hair. Married to UK TVs Jonathan Ross for a million years. It's a good story, and a good movie version of a well told tale.
I was so disappointed this movie did not get it's glory.
It was so neat and I still re watch it .
What a neat concept and so.many brilliant actors
Tragically underrated!!
It's Tristan, NOT Tristran
He knows
It was in the book, they changed it for the movie.
I watch this yearly with my wife around Christmas
A true classic for me ❤
One of my favorites!
I literally watched this movie yesterday! so a great story. I think the storyline of the dead brothers hanging out is the best sub plot/B story type thing in any movie I've seen
Is many times of I have seen this movie, I didn't know it was a Neil gaiman story or that Matthew Vaughn directed it! Who creatives whose work I adore..... No wonder it's such a great story and movie.
Helps when you’re source material is an all time great writer.
I loved this movie... if you havent seen it... please go watch it... its truly great!
The main problem I have with the film is the pacing. I remember seeing it thinking it drags a lot. Had there been a brisk pace to it, like Kingsman 1, it would have worked better
Fun movie - have the Blu-ray of this I should toss on but first maybe read the book!
De Niro as Captain Shakespeare...that was a fun casting
I must admit, I watched this movie because of Charlie Cox (I’m a fan of the ‘Daredevil’ show). But I was not disapointed.
Great movie!
Love both, the book and the movie.
I loved the film when i first saw it, i love it still❤ its a comfort film for me, cheers me up when I'm down, & it stars the exceptional Peter O'toole 👌🏻
I love stardust, this was a nice video, but I had a couple of issues with the way you phrased some things, 1) the witch Lamia (Michelle pfeiffer) isn’t just using magic to change her appearance, she ate the last bit of the previous stars heart, thus de-aging her and giving her a lot more power. Every time she uses her powers, she ages physically which indicates how much power she has left, kinda like a low battery warning. I can see why you might perceive it as her using the magic to make herself look young, but the movie nor the book ever give any indication that anyone would recognise her face, so it’s not meant as a disguise. And you wouldn’t describe a battery as making themselves look full. It could be interpreted as pure vanity, but I thought of it as just a manifestation of being full of power, you would automatically make your body more comfortable and strong.
2) Victoria doesn’t promise Tristan she’ll do anything he wants if he gets her the star, she says it’s beautiful, he suggests that he would get it to prove he likes her more than her fiancée and she responds with ‘don’t be silly’. She takes advantage of his infatuation but even then she doesn’t push him to get the star, instead trying to let him down. Tristan gets distracted from finding the star anyway by the idea of finding his mother so I don’t think any promise was made at all?
3) technically there’s no indication that captain Shakespeare is gay, he just claims to be fascinated by stuff from our world, especially women’s clothing, tho the wink at Humphrey at the end could be ur clue, he could technically be bi or pansexual as well. He’s definitely a transvestite/drag queen, his sexuality is less certain.
My dad played Mr Monday in this. I remember he shot some dialogue scenes but they were all cut. No idea if they exist in any bonus features anywhere. I'd like to see them. :)
I love Stardust because I love Princess Bride!
I have tried to watch this movie several times. I never got through the first few minutes. I will try again
I watched Stardust on my first ever comedown
Great movie
Princess Bride is in my top three, and this movie is the only movie I could think of that comes close. It's like Con Air, it has a little bit of everything.....
A lot of the humor in this movie comes from the cast's comedic timing. (And the director's and editor's, I suppose). The laughs come not so much from what they say as how they say it.
Good video, but I thought you mispronounced "Tristan" the entire time. You kept saying "Tris-Tran" and adding an extra R in there. It was really bothering me, and then I realized it's Tristran in the book, and Tristan in the movie. I love both book and movie Stardust (and Neil Gaiman) so much, so it was interesting to find out how it was made and why they did!
I saw the movie first, and yes I vaguely recall the differences between it and the novel not really appealing. I really liked the movie, but was a bit 'meh' on the book.
I'm overdue for a re-watch.
Neva herd of it...
And everyone in Ireland is thinking it's REALLY bad timing to release this video.
Never saw this
no idea why you put a red arrow in the thumbnail pointing at....nothing in particular?
Worth checking out? It's awesome! Second only to The Princess Bride!
This is the best fantasy movie that nobody knows about. This should have been an eighties film along with The Neverending Story and The Labyrinth.
I'm really really glad that director did not get to make his sequel though. That sounds bad. Just bad.
If there is ever a sequel it should be by the original author.
It's tris-tan. There's not another r in there.
I hate fairly tale/fantasy type movies. I can never buy into the setting and rules in their respective universes. However, I loved this movie. Its fun and deals with the fantasy of love in a neat way. I'd love to see more in this universe.
Michelle Pfeiffer was sooo fine in this
HES DAREDEVIL!! Im soo dumb 😅😂
Daredevil 😈
And superman
One example where the movie is as good maybe better than the novel. Saw the movie read the book... love them both... prefer movie ending.
Another movie that doesn't follow book. It would be funny to see Michelle Pfeiffer running around with unicorn head.
Captain Shakespear is the best role De Niro has ever done. I was an actor and I know all the bla bla woo woo. He was having a blast playing that character. F*ck all and just have fun putting money in the bank.
This movie is so underrated. It's action, romance, adventure. I would put it next to the princess Bride.
A wonderful movie
A really good re-visit
but please, for the love of God and all that's holy...!
It's pronounced TRIS-TAN, no matter the spelling!!
The book was better, the Robert Dinero character was ridiculous
WTF happened to Matthew Vaughn?
Yup. Glad i never bothered with this movie
Nope can't handle the AI commentary. 😢
this movie was ok. The unicorn getting killed traumatized my sister lolz 😂 definitely not made for children, and it's totally stupid to make a fantasy movie not made for children. Guess they thought it was gonna be another game of thrones
Amazing film!
Great movie !
