  • Engine judder and cabin vibration! Is it the clutch, engine mountings, or both? And, does this motor have three engine mountings or four? Watch #HowToBloke as he does his best to try and figure it out. The featured Renault Grand Scenic III was not harmed in the making of this video :) ▼ Please feel free to comment with any ideas (or post a link to this video on your car repair forum) because although the two new engine mountings have helped, the problem is not totally sorted and whilst the cabin vibration is much less, the transmission judder on take-up still happens but less often (especially using reverse gear for some reason !) so I'm still baffled as to what it could be and how I can fix it...

The clutch pedal height is correct and smooth in operation, without any clutch-slip on full power with a full load.
P.S. Sorry for the air-con fan noise on the video !
The part numbers of the old engine mountings shown in the thumbnail photo above:
Pictured left stamped on both sides on the metal = 27602F1
Pictured right, stamped on both sides on the metal = 112380006R

I had exactly the same symptoms with my 1.5dci Scenic. The problem turned out to be a failing dual mass flywheel. Thanks for the video.

Very, very good point, and that's not cheap to replace either. A year further down that road, mine still wants to try and judder very occasionally, but most days - no problem at all.
I'll, “live with it” until something breaks... Thanks for watching #HowToBloke 👍

Do you have the problem in any conditions? Mine has the vibration when the engine is cold and i try to start with slight climb. With hot engine i have no problems.

For me, there was no difference with the engine hot or cold. A hill start or reversing would make the Scenic vibrate the most. In fact, prior to having the engine mountings changed, pulling away for the first few yards in reverse gear I could sometimes hear something knock or clank a couple of times. I thought it might be a loose exhaust system but that wasn't the case.

The shop are changing the top engine mounting that's in front of the dog-bone mounting early next week. Testing and video to follow.

How To Bloke Mine is fixed. It was the gearbox mounting.

Glad you've got your Scenic sorted! For me, the gearbox mounting will be the very last engine mounting to change; perhaps? I'm working on the theory that if that old dog-bone engine mounting was totally worn-out, then that would have put extra stress on the nearby top engine mounting, causing it to weaken and wear-out too. I shall find out after they've replaced it next week... :)
