Hm, I'm 54 and this is a great reason as to why I should be starting my own youtube channel and tell my story. I'm into cars, watch a ton of car channels and I can see myself doing this. Thanks for this!
I’m 53 and have been in the hobby for over 20 years- it’s a lot of trial and error and without UA-cam I wouldn’t have been able to advance in the hobby. Being able to learn from different experiences and have the knowledge base that I wouldn’t have living in a remote location where it’s hard to get plants and equipment means researching to make good decisions. Thanks for starting your channel!!!
As a boomer, I whole heartedly agree to this. We have to step out of old grooves and embrace tech like starting a youtube channel. Yes, it is hard, but it will keep me young of mind. Thank you!
Thank you for acknowledging us Gen-xers. Yes tech may be a bit more challenging to some but you've put in a great way on how and why to start a youtube channel, especially for us 50 somethings.
I posted my first video 11 yrs ago, but have never prioritized my YT channel over my career and my 'hobbies'. This Dec I will begin my biggest (maybe 2nd biggest) complete home renovation which will take a year and will include raising the house, all new plumbing, electrical, etc. The smart thing to do is to begin accumulating more cameras, hardware, and other items. My helper has many videos of our projects the past 3 years but I haven't gone through the hassle of editing and posting. Actually, I can't stand editing. I would rather be piddling on my cars or cutting the grass. My channel isn't big enough to have an editor. I can't argue your point, Gavin. For those who want to take the plunge, start NOW, b/c time online helps. I suspect if I truly gave it a real effort, I could accumulate subscribers and in a few years, have a decent following. Maybe not to quit my day job, but bring in some gasoline money throughout the year.
Yeah I hear you on editing. It is quite something lol. Have you considered just doing 1 minute shorts and encapsulating a story into that time frame? It takes A LOAD of pressure off hours of editing and fancy camera footwork. Just a cellphone and maybe a go pro is a great start.
Thanks for your nice comments. What are your top 3 interests, hobbies, passion? Starting a YT video is a vend diagram of what you like and what people are wanting to watch. It does take a bit of testing, some courage and a longer term approach.
I've always wanted to start youtube but never had the time nor daring for all the reasons you listed. Thanks for being so open about it, it gives me lots of inspiration to start my youtube journey!
Thank you for sharing... I just started a channel at the age of 63... I love comedy, so I based it on being funny..I don't look my best, but that's part of my persona. I got some views but how do you get them to subscribe or like?
I saw your channel, it is better if you upload as shorts as the algorithm will push it differently. Otherwise, you'd love to do more research into how other people like you are succeeding and learn about video creation. I would recommend looking at channels like VidIQ and think media. They essentially teach you how to UA-cam.
Would love to hear how old you were when you started UA-cam!
@@GavinKohAquascaping I started two months ago 🤣👵
@@GavinKohAquascaping 70 years old
I started not long after UA-cam started, but didn't stay consistent. Imagine where I'd be if I did.

So true! It is never too late to start 👏👏
I started at 70

Yes, youtube is definitely a library of knowledge, especially if you don't have immediate access to it. Definitely keep it up!
Glad UA-cam has been so helpful for you!

I’m 47 and want to start I just don’t know what to make videos about! I really enjoy your calm style, it’s very refreshing.

My pleasure! Are you also looking to start YT?
Another great video with transparency, definitely an advantage for Gen X and the earlier generations!

Great message...I've just started a new channel from scratch at age 62 and will be posting soon.
Best of luck to you! What is your channel about?
@GavinKohAquascaping A little bit of everything, which I know isn't always the best at attracting subscribers.
👍
