Best I mean the VERY BEST VIDEO I've seen and I've been hunting and watching this subject for 2 weeks now!!! Thanks!!!!
Thank you for watching and the comment 🙌
This is a great video sir. Hands down one of the best videos on doing this job. Easy to follow step by step. Keep up the great work.
Thanks for watching nd the kind words 🙌

I agree great video
🙌
Couldn’t agree more. Phenomenal step by step. Thank you!
im assuming everyone in this comment section is in the same boat. we can do it 😭
Yes .easy fix .once u replace them lifters with Corvette lifters you will never have this problem again
@@TheRealZJM377 or sell your truck and buy something older without afm
Just buy a toyota lol
@@JM8686 IM TRYYYYINNNGGG
Good video…one step I skipped was removing the fuel rail…I took the head off with it in head just unplugged it..another was to leave the exhaust manifold in too…just un bolt it and pull it off to the side with a ratchet strap. .. make sure the holes in ur lifters are facing same way when u put them back in the trays!
You mean you have to do all this work to remove a lifter this is incredible
General motors doing bad with these engines.
@@oillife2115hell no.the LS and LT are the best especially when building a lot of cheap horsepower. The problem is the fuel management that has lifters with a spring on them. But once you replace the lifter with Corvette lifters you will never have this problem again
This is one of the best automotive how to videos I’ve seen. This helped me tear down my 2016 silverado…and I’m no mechanic!
🙌👏👏👏
Making it look easy. I'm thinking I can change the heads to my 2014 Sierra myself now. I'll watch this a couple more times and give it a try.
You got this man 🙌
I see why I'm paying 5200 canadian dollars to have this done. I watched this video to see if I could do the other side myself. Might need some assistance lol. Thanks for the video!
I'm getting ready to change my buddy's lifters today. Good video, I do all my own work, and alot of side work on days off and weekends from my full time job. I grew up in a garage so I learned really young. But I just don't let any jobs intimidate me. I started out on small jobs then started working my way up to motor work, now I've been doing it long enough, I know how to get myself out of messes or any hiccups along the way. It also helps having the right tools and a good collection of tools. The swivels with the ball joint in it are the best too, the u joint type will bind up if to much angle is put into it. Tools are expensive, but it's half the battle having the right equipment to work with
Yes cause of the fuel management system the lifters with the spring on them are trash. But once you replace them with Corvette lifters you will never have this problem again
Thank you for your explanation. This men saved me at least $1500! I traveled from California to Tx for Christmas then this clicking noise 0:20 started. My 2015 premium Cadillac Escalade 6.2L has exact same engine so I opened up 0:49 valve cover and noticed the push rod on cylinder 4 looked different from rest then when I took it out 15:34 it was bended due to collapsed lifter. When head was removed and lifter pulled out I checked camshaft through the hole and luckily it didn’t get scratched or damaged by lifter. (Only drove truck for a few days when noise started).
Took me 2 days to remove and install everything taking my time. (Had to remove 16:08 exhaust manifold wish was a pain 17:25 and go under truck to remove 3 bolts with angled adapter and extension for ratchet. Replaced gaskets for valve cover and engine head also oil pressure sensor under intake manifold and all new spark plugs since I took half of them off also added more coolant.
Once done engine didn’t start right away it took a few tries, then some white smoke on exhaust and vibration and then all normal and running like before.
This is a common issue for this type of AFM 8cylinder switching to 4 cylinder gmc engines. I just bought the device that disables this engine mode to have all 8 cyl running all the time to avoid more collapsed lifters in future since it’s a possibility. I don’t mind spending more gas on v8 mode rather that replacing my engine in the future.
Some videos have a pile of gaskets, and o rings. I like your style
Drop the device name

I like how you even went into detail how to remove the harness clips. Sometimes those clips give me a harder time than the whole job.
Thanks for watching and the comment 🙌
I want to thank you for your video. I'm driving my 2016 5.3 Silverado again because of you. You made it look easy and it was somewhat easy for ever doing it. It took me about 14 hours with all hand tools.
.
@@paulmorgan62 mine made a ticking nose after passing someone on the interstate and it got worse I bought the range that keep it in v8 mode that helped for a while than the ticking got worse . I tore in to the motor and it was the one 4 cylinder on the intake side the dod Lifter
@@paulmorgan62 No the only lifters I changed were the DOD lifters On the one side
What lifters did you buy because I have a 2016 as well and I bought the set on Amazon put them in and still having the same problem spent about 17 hrs on complete tear down and putting it back together and now I have to do it again 😂
@@Selfmade9oh9 I went to advanced auto and got the most expensive ones they have. There were seventy five dollars a piece
@@Selfmade9oh9 It took me with hand tools no air tools 7 hours to take the passenger side head off and put all back together. I do know mechanic work i'm not a mechanic though it's fairly easy
"Don't use the cheap sh*t". Mine collapsed at 30K miles, truck bought brand new.
Thank you so much for the video. You are awesome. I know with the help of your video I will definitely be able to fix my fathers truck.
Another GMC POS motor.
My 6.2 has cyclinder number 4 with no compression and needs lifters. I’m gonna do them all what would you charge for that kinda job?

Great video well explained inspires confidence.
Thanks for watching 🙌
Awesome video. I think I’ll be tackling this in the next week or two. So now how do we go about checking the cam shaft to make sure it’s not been wiped?
Great video saved money I didn't have. Dealer wanted me to buy new engine at $13000 other shops wanted minimum $10,000. Turned out my litters were not collapsed it was one bad injector flooding one cylinder bank 2.
Wow! How do you know if it's the injectors? And is that easier to replace?
Thanks for the video two things I recommend you can do differently is when you cannot takeoff the headers you can push them back with a prybar and hold them with a 2 x 4 because the bolts are seized to the catalytic and second if the lifter is seized in the engine. You can use the torch And lock pliers
How much does this cost in a repair shop i have 2015 suburban ltz has the code p306 and check engine light on
I have a 2014 Silverado 6.2L 71K miles with a cold start rough idle, and cylinder 3 misfire code. So far I have changed plugs, wires, coils and just replaced all 8 injectors. I’m still getting the same 2 codes.😤 You think this could be the problem?
#3 cylinder is not a DOD/AFM lifter but it is possible! You have to check compression and also do a leak down test! Once you confirm that that's good you have to scan the truck nd pay attention to the Injectors because a guy that i replaced the DOD lifters its having the same problem and i found out with my scanner that the injector on the cylinder with the misfire turns on and off! He got a Silverado 2014 with same 6.2 engine!
Thank you sir I will look into it!
This is my car the best most instructional video for vehicle repair, straight to the point, showing each step. ❤
I'm replacing some bad lifters on my 2018 Suburban and I absolutely cannot get my passenger side exhaust manifold off. Has anyone successfully did this without taking the exhaust manifold off? Any tips?
Great video. I just don’t know why you wouldn’t keep your valve train in order. Rockers, push rods. Unless you were replacing them.
Dude, Bad ass video! Very well done, best I’ve seen. Fully shown and explained. Liked & subscribed. 👍
Thank you brother 🙌
great job. and OMG at all the mm switches you had to do.....I would have had to make a cheat sheet map to know what goes back together in which order.....Question is it seems like the only lifters that can get stuck is the DOD ones with springs, correct? Do you have to replace them with more lifters with springs? can you put regular lifters in the 4 old springed ones? just wondering....I was told by my GMC mechanic that my lifter problem is due to a faulty pin in the lifter spring. Can you show us that?
Great Video , I'm a Chevy Fan but what a piece of Junk these things are. This is insane
Agree 🤣
Leaving work getting on highway lifter when bad passenger side cost $4500
😱 Dang i charge half of that for both sides
I have a 2016 Chevy suburban in the process of changing out my fuel injectors.I broke one of the tips of the injectors. And the tip fell into the injector port.Any ideas of how to get it out without taking the head off
When I turn on my 08 suburban it doesn't stay on. Cylinder 1,2,6,7 have no compression. Got it from the auction. It looks like the heads and water pump are new. I spent $700 getting it towed to two different shops. No one knows shit.
I can't believe what a nightmare to remove a lifter I hope my V6 2018 Chevy Silverado I don't have to go through all this Urdu I could you help me are you in Florida Florida South Florida I mean Homestead maybe I can hire you
Great video! If I were to do this on a 2019 Silverado LT would it be similar enough to this?
Why did you remove the fuel rail and injectors?
Can’t find a delete anywhere on a 2019 Silverado ???
Did you replace all the lifters on the passenger side? Or just the two for that one cylinder head?
Really good video! Extremely thorough! "No cheap shit"
Thanks for the comment 🙌
Hey papa I’m struggling getting that fuel rail out holding the injectors. Does it need to come out ? Or will the whole assembly come out when I take out the head ? Any tips ? I’m using serval pry bars and it’s not budging
If you not resurfacing the head DO NOT remove the fuel rail cuz the O rings on the injectors are kinda one time use! Just leave it on it
@@JM8686 thank you brother
🤘
I might need to replace the lifters on the driver side. Do you recommend replacing both sides? Also do I need to drain the coolant if I’m only doing the driver side?
Yes sir do both
What tools did you use to remove the 15" headbolts did you use a wrench or a electric impact?
Decent video but you need to show the pain in the ass stuff like 3 nuts that hold the pipe to the manifold, the rear head bolts! All y'all out there this harder than the video portrays. Wait until you have to torque the head down.
Howndid you get the stuck lifter out?
Damn bro. This is the most detail video ever. Great job!

Awesome video, where are you located, I’d love for you to work on my LS?...
Thanks for the comment nd located in gardena ca

Awesome video. Very detailed. Now I see why GMs AFM is bullshit. Thanks man!!!
Thanks for watching 🤘
I'm currently having this repair done. From what I have read online, the other lifters will fail eventually. I'm taking my truck to a tune shop to eliminate the cylinder on demand. I'll run in v8 mode all the time but at least I won't have to worry about this issue again.
Sounds good 👍
Do you mind sharing how much you going to pay for the job?
So people can get some kind of idea on price 🙌
@@JM8686 ill let you know. Still waiting to get my truck back from the shop. Will update when I get a quote 👍
Just got a quote for this and they are asking for $4600.
Can you reuse the same head gasket
Good video although next time leave the injectors and rails in the heads, no need to remove them.
I have a weird tick noise on the driver's side bank. Really loud around 2k rpm. 2016 sierra 5.3. But no misfire codes.
On the driver side you have dod/amf on #1 and #7 cylinders first nd last! If is not a collapsed lifter then you have a bad camshaft

Dumb question but how many head bolts are there total for both sides?
We have a 2012 GMC Sierra z71 with lifters making a lot of noise. Our mechanic shop said they won’t take the engine apart to fix it. A new engine would cost a lot of money. Could we do this same procedure to our truck to fix it?
Yes sir same procedure
Who else is stuck on the 3 bolts holding the fking manifold
Those links for your tools are not working :(
Just got quoted $4,600 for this job.
How can I reach you on Social Media I got a question to ask you about my truck ?

👍👍 GREAT VIDEO, FKN GM GARBAGE SYSTEM
actually, my car is the 2016 chev suburban , now i think the engine lifter make the noise, i went to the dealer and they thought should be the lifter problem, they said a part of this car have the same problem around 100000 miles, can i know are u at the east coast? im at new york city, i really need ur help. i want replace all the lifter. if u are at east coast , i want drive to u and ask u fix it , is it possible?
Yeah lifters goes bad and dealer won't want to call it a re-call because they will be upside down lol anyways unfortunately currently located in west coast ,California love lol 🤘
why cant you pull the head with the fuel injectors
What a Great video....thank you Sir.
Great video. Pretty much did almost all the removal with one hand lol Again, thanks for making this video 🤙
YOU ARE THE MAN! LITERALLY. I really appreciate this video. Thanks alot.
Great video bro. Gave me the confidence to dig in and save labor costs. However... Will the rocker always be floppy? I got the side off that I thought was the issue but none are floppy like your vid. Also where in cali? I'm in Fresno.
Thanks for watching nd the comment, if the lifters are loose that means you have an dod/afm lifter collapsed! Try to get the truck running without the valve cover nd make sure all the rocker arms moves up and down,if they all move then one of you're lifters spin and you need a camshaft!!

Can bad lifters be the reason to have missfire on cilynder 2 on a 2014 chevy 4.3l ?
I have replace injector, coil, wires and plugs and still have missfire.
Thanks in advance.
Yeah could be lifters but i would do a compression and leak down test first!
Also remove the valve cover and see if the pushrod is loose with lots of play
@@JM8686 Im trying to figure it out before I do more work to it seems like if bad compression means bad rings on pistons?
Im learning as I go.
@@miguelcastro6968 low compression means means valve not closing right, worn rings, blown head gasket! Do a compression test and a leak down test!
@@JM8686 thanks for your help I'll work on that.
does it need to be top dead center before removing head?
WOW. This is the best video I have found for lifter removal. EXCELLENT JOB and EXCELLENT VIDEO. Thanks for posting.
Take those off. Those off. And the baby's coming off 😂 love it. Good video man. Thanks for taking the time. Really helped me!

Good video man thank you so much
My 2012 is different than that .
I’ve removed the rockers,, bolts and exhaust I can’t get the left head off on a 2015 GMC Sierra 1500 5.3

Better off just doing a dod delete if your that far into it
How much should a job like this cost to do?
What does something like that usually cost to have fixed
All depends of the shop because on parts is always around the same! So what changes is labor
When it was running did the ticking noise last till warm up or just at cold start?
All the time
Did you check the cam lobe to make sure it didn't get wiped?
Of course 🤘😎🤘
How much does a job like this cost ?
Great video!! Thanks
Good job
It’s a Chevy just junk it
hey what's going on ju-tooth!
Wow great tear down. That far into the engine I would do the other side too and get the best possible lifters on the market. Super good video! Complements to you sir!
Wouldnt the best lifters be the OEM GM lifters? Or are there aftermarket lifters with better quality?
@Amokof EOM only
I have a 2016 gmc Denali 6.2 and their charging me just to change the lifters 4791, is this a normal price for this type of repair?
My price is 3k with a valve job on the heads, new gaskets "head set",all lifters, spark plugs, Coolant, oil, lifter holders, lifters solenoid actuator pan, head bolts
Wish you lived in Dallas, Tx! I would of taken it to you!
Wish I was more mechanically inclined. But I'm afraid I'll start something and mess it up, I always mess things up. 😔
🤣🤣🤣 yeah seen that happened before lol

Do we have to loosen the head bolts in a certain pattern to avoid warping the heads?
No sir
I have cylinder 4 misfire, replaced coil, plugs and wires, still misfiring. So i pulled off the intake to replace the fuel injector. I overrode the starter relay to have a look at the lifters and found the culprit. The cylinder 4 lifter is not moving. Would this video be your conclusion to my problem. Replace the lifter on number 4. I have pretty much the same engine 2015 silverado 5.3 1500 Lt
