    Divide your cheese and freeze half to bring out on the second week ,
    Yes it will run out in between but still nicer to spread that out between shops .
    I keep an ingredient’s pantry too .
    I shifted in recent 18 months to making my own tomato sauce , pickles , chutney , cordials from scraps if I have them.
    I dehydrate bananas and bread for bread crumbs .
    I make yogurt weekly ,
    I use it plain in baking or cooking for some things .
    I make up dry mixes for pancakes and regular things we like like chocolate zucchini bread ,
    I list the wet ingredients I need on the jars in permanent marker .
    Around 1/5 of my freezer is fruits and
    Same with vegetables another 5th is bread or dairy products like low date cream or butter .
    I buy puff pastry 🤷‍♀️it’s a convenience food for me .
    I work convenience foods into my freezer like -
    I make up hamburger patties,
    With grated veg and onion in them and bread crumbs ,
    They cook from frozen in the sandwich press really quickly.
    I freeze them on a tray with a silicone mat and bag after froze so I can use one at a time .
    😜

    Hello from Canada. For the polenta try making spoon bread with it. My favorite is ham spoon bread. Very yummy and comforting.

      Hey 👋- spoon bread… I have never heard of that- but just googled it 😀- sounds delish!

    I started making my own yogurt from uht milk , I use some of my previous batch as my starter for my next batch ,
    I either use homemade jam or homemade toppings.

      I need to give this a go again, I think last time I tried I didn’t flavour it, so it was a big thumbs down from the whanau!

    Fantastic video. Your pantry is very well stocked, so I can see why you can stay within your $100 a week budget. I need to join a food coop

      Yes, a food co-op is a great way to save money! I spend about $1000 a year on food co-op stuff. This year I'm taking it out of my $100 a week budget so feels a bit tighter :-)

    I love polenta! Try making polenta chips, or I use it as a creamy mash in substitute for mash potatoes with things like stews. Our current favourite is blending up some roasted tomatoes, adding cream (I use UHT cream so it’s always on hand), and adding some chicken, then serving with creamy polenta 😋.

      Yum- that sounds delish- I’m going to have to try that! Today I made spoonbread and polenta muffins- 2 cups down🤣

      😀 I did that- I agree there is nothing worse than eating everything in the first week and then having to eek out the second week!

    I'm new to your channel, thanks to a mention from Farmers Wife. Love your content, its interesting to see how prices are different between North & South Island. Have you ever used Grocer NZ app? I use it all the time for checking which store has best deals.

      Thanks for watching! That was really nice of Stacy to mention me :-) Yes, I have used grocer but I don't have a smart phone so can't do it on the run, have to be organised and look stuff up before I head out :-)

    Great video today, as always 😊 Pop your blocks of yeast straight into the freezer as they are. They will keep for many years like that. Im currently on my last 2020 block, lol. Butter prices are flipping CRAZY in this country!! P.s. I must see if te Waikato has a Co-op

    • @nzmoneykarma
      @nzmoneykarma  4 дні тому +2

      I’m just in the kitchen now and have run straight out to the freezer to put the yeast in there 😀. Once it’s out and open I just keep mine in the fridge… or should it be in the freezer when opened too? Yup, I definitely recommend the co-op. I’m not a purist when it comes to organically but having the bulk basics covered makes me feel like the balance is okay. Argh butter…. I

      @nzmoneykarma I pop it in a jar in the fridge, but I've seen others keep it in the freezer still. So it's totally over to you.

    Hi makes sense now why you can spend so little on groceries. I use the grocer app and amazed that the 3 pak n saves close to me, different towns but all different prices on lots of things

      Hey 😃 thanks for watching! Yes, last year when I was spending between $100-$150- week I was really mindful of using some of that money to put away for coop stuff or stock up the pantry, it took a good 12 months to get my stores to this level where they can be maintained (I hope) on $100/week.

    • @nzmoneykarma
      @nzmoneykarma  4 дні тому +1

      That’s interesting that all the pak n saves are different! I only look at NW, woolies etc I’ll have to start looking at the different ones around us too! thanks for the tip!!

    Ideas for polenta- polenta cakes. Bbc good food website has lots of recipes for polenta cake. The orange one is delicious.
    Or polenta stacks. Cook the polenta in a pan then empty into a baking tray to cool. Cut out rounds and layer other ingredients into a stack and bake. For example pesto and tomato. Or hummus and tomato. Lots of ideas online.

    Great video today, thanks! Just home from Pak n Save myself. I go back and forth between stocking up and keeping lots in the pantry and using it down by making meals from what I've got and only topping up with a few things since I'm not great at rotating stock, etc. It's a bit easier to do that with only 2 adults at home now. Is your co-op in the Christchurch area only? Enjoy your day, Dawn

      My co-op is on ChCh but I've been part of one where ever I have lived, you can almost always find one or start one :-)

    What was your spend?
    I did our groceries today.
    I withdrew cash on the way in and was like "this will last the fortnight regardless" so I have $210 left... Which would probably seem a huge amount.
    I do notice some things are cheaper in Christchurch, I paid $4.40 for budget milk today.
    It's sooo hot up here at the moment I don't want to be in the kitchen long so I am definitely menu planning around quick and not many meals in the oven.
    Oh yes and you have reminded me I am part of a co-op I just never use it!! I need to.
    I am curious how you get through so many sesame seeds? And nuts , do they not go rancid?

    • @nzmoneykarma
      @nzmoneykarma  4 дні тому +1

      Hey- that's great that you have so much $$ left over. My total spend was $200 (once I went and got some spices and veggies). Too hot to be in the kitchen.... I'm jealous! As I type I am wearing a jacket ;-/. RE: the nuts- nope they've been good so far as long as they are in an air tight container I think they'll be fine. We use those seeds in baking, bread and muesli. The nuts are used as an easy snack. TBH they never last as long as I plan :-)
