We're paying about the same price as you are for butter in my part of Canada (southern Ontario) when I do the conversion from NZD to CND dollars . 454g/1 pound of butter. A lot of the prices on your grocery shop are very close to what I pay in Canada...a few things are cheaper, like the coconut milk, tinned baked beans & tinned spaghetti.
hi There, Alison from Essex England here . super video. I found it really interesting as usual. If you're not fed up with natural cough remedies, i have one for you which was handed down from a great aunt. Put a few teaspoons of soft brown sugar on a plate and place half a peeled onion cut side down on top. Cover with a bowl and leave over night. Take a teaspoon full of the resulting juice. Tastes revolting but it worked . I even took some myself once or twice!! Kind Regards Ali
Hi Ali, so nice to hear from you! I’m always up for a natural remedy- my daughter isn’t keen on my thyme tea, elderberry, garlic honey etc though, so I might struggle to get her to take the onion juice 🤣.
Hi, thanks for taking time to comment 😀. Spring is in the air in NZ 😀. I work shifts and I always know it’s time to get up in the morning when the birds start singing 🕊
Hi I buy NZ westgold butter for $5.80 here in Australia I like it because it only has two ingredients cream and salt and it is grass feed. New subscriber here ❤️🇦🇺
Hi 👋. Thanks for subscribing 😀. That’s a pretty good price. My husband and I joke that our souvenirs from an Australian holiday should be NZ butter and cheese!
I see the ads which say Pams is the most popular brand in NZ. I buy Pams because I have to, not because it is my preferred brand. The supermarket own brands such as Pams and Best Value have undercut the other brands to create a monopoly. My family prefer Mainland cheese and dairy products. I admire your budget. I grow some veges and eat seasonal, but I still buy a lot of fruit and vegetables. I resent some of the prices for food which grows in my own back yard. Cannot remember when I last ate lamb.
I hear you! We try to buy in bulk when we can to reduce the cost of our food shop. To decide if the home brand will be alright, I often check to see if they’re manufactured in the same place and if the ingredients are the same. If it’s same, same then I I think it’s probably all from th same factory🤷♀️
Family of 2 working adults and 2 cats with a fortnightly grocery budget of $400 covers everything from making lunches, baking and cooking from scratch for main meals. What I don't grow myself I buy from the local market gardens (Hawke's bay) totally agree about our dairy products which are in my opinion have over inflated local prices 6.29$ at my local pns for 500g of pams butter
Our family of 2 adults and 1 teen, plus a 6 people family dinner once a week, and morning tea for employees sometimes, our average weekly groceries is $250. This does not include much meat (usually 1 dinner a week and cold meat for lunches) as we have a freezer of home kill. We have chooks so haven't bought eggs for a couple of years (a give away alot). We eat a lot of fruit and vege so I try to grow as much as possible but no way self sufficient. I find using click and collect invaluable for saving money. I can check cupboards before ordering, compare prices/100gm easily, remove items from the cart if spending too much, it saves me so much time, plus I am not being tempted by seeing things on the shelves that find their way into the trolley. When I go into the supermarket I end up spending $350 easily. We only have 1 supermarket in town, a 4 Square and a really great butcher, so not a lot of options to shop around. I also am careful about where food comes from and will buy NZ products in preference, especially when it comes to fruit, veg and meat.
That’s awesome. You are nailing the grocery budget! What do you reckon the cost/egg is with feed prices etc? I agree, I also care where the food originated- it definitely makes a difference on all sorts of levels.
This is bad, but we have a budget of $550 a week for 2 adults and 2 teens, we get the majority of our 2 cats food at supermarket too ($20 a week) And it always just goes..... Food in NZ is crazy price. We mostly take our own lunches too. So my husband can cook we do , the occasional hello fresh as he needs a menu etc so makes my life easier.
Hi from Australia! Our prices are not quite as high as yours but not far off. You have done really well feeding your family for that price. Cheers. 😊🎉❤
Just worked out our monthly spend on groceries and it works out to be about $330 weekly for 4 adults and 2 cats. We make our own dinners and hubby always takes leftovers for lunch
Hi, nope we don’t buy bread, we make it. I buy bulk flour and we still have some of that left. I also buy large amounts of yeast….. haven’t managed to keep a sour dough starter alive long-term😩

Hi, oh that’s interesting that we are similar! Yes, those baked beans were very cheap- I hope they taste alright 🤞

Love the birds singing!

Hi from England UK, at the moment butter is reasonably cheap. For one of the top brands it's £1.90 £or 250 grammes
Hey, thanks for letting me know- so 3.80 for 500g- pretty much the same as here. Hopefully UK butter though…?

Love it, we spend $300 a week as s family of 6, we spent $200 for many many years prior, inflation on food is insane
That’s great you can keep your spend down like that, I feel like every time I go to the supermarket it costs me more than the fortnight before atm🤷♀️

You are lucky to live in the fruit bowl region, I love visiting HB. The funny thing with butter is they say “limit “ like $7 is such a bargain🫤

Those teenagers can eat a lot! My son eats 15 weetbix for breakfast- once the box is gone it’s on to porridge though😄
Impressive I thought 5 weetbix was a lot😮😅@@nzmoneykarma

Hi, thanks for taking time to write😀. I always feel like I get more for my money in NZ.
Haha, I meant in Australia 🤦♀️
I paid that price for butter today from aldi. Your meat and tinned things are dearer, but otherwise not a lot different than here in Australia
Just worked out our monthly spend on groceries and it works out to be about $330 weekly for 4 adults and 2 cats. We make our own dinners and hubby always takes leftovers for lunch
Animal food definitely increases the spend!
Do you buy bread?
