I thank God that He closes the door for my son to enter UPNM 4 years ago. My son was quite timid and introvert. Now I know why God closes the door. So many cases of bullying should be looking into more seriously when it happens repeatedly. Every one needs to play their parts well to make sure the students study happily and they have a safe place to study. They are the future warriors to look after our country. If they are behaving like hooligans, how sure are we that they could take care of our country well. The administrators should be watchful and diligent to know the well-being of the students. Set a place where the whistleblowers from the students could make a complain of the happenings of surroundings to the admin and be protected. Usually the students are afraid to report because they could be the victims. The admin should then observe and find out the truth once receive a complain. It broke my heart because it involves lives.

These recent cases of bullying and harassment didn't just crop-up overnight. Bullying has been going-on over the decades.....it's just not been reported or exposed to the public. Look into the history of both RMC (MTD) and UPNM on how many cases have been covered up. This has been happening for years but students and parents are told, no reports as such cases are under the privy of MoD.

There have been so many bullying cases, some even died. What has the Defence Ministry or the ministry of education been doing. Looks like they need to get students going for higher education be sent for psychological test and his background and behaviour from Form 1 to Form 5. Believe me it starts from Form 1 to 5 and the headmaster or the teachers just ignore it. They should put adequate comments of bullying has taken place into his file. Malaysia semua boleh but disgracefully.
I still believe this tradition of " dragging" for fresh students at institutions of higher learning should be abolished and do away with. And softer and more welcoming alternative should be adopted to welcome fresh students. Seniors always tend to more condescending and rough when approach these fresh students. It is suggested that Defense Minister should be appointed from former Army General or Ketua Polis Negara not from a political body.

No wonder the bullying behavior exists outside the education system, the legal system and parliamentary system?

May God Bless Malaysians and make them aware that bullying is not a Malaysian culture, as it is a culture of arrogance which thinks himself or herself more superior than the other party or person, and can get away with the violence and oppression towards another.

It’s a failure of our education and culture. Bullying has been embedded in our culture long ago. Feeling superiority over the weak ones, to dig deep, these bullies are lack of manners, empathy, moral. How can he be in our defence if all he could do is to bully instead of protecting the weak. Bullies are indeed despicable.

Guidelines on bullying, ragging and related rules should have been in place. When something happens only then we talk about consequences. This knee-jerk reactions are usually too little too late.

I was actually amazed that bullying incidents continued being reported after the late Zulfarhan's murder. For me this shows inaction. Praise to God, my two boys adamantly did not want to apply for UPNM when I suggested it to them.
I believe this ragging culture do exist in other higher institution of learning as well....

Bullying seems to be an accepted culture in the military services. This is a long standing issue and no serious actions has been taken over the decades.
Did UPNM strictly implement the regtl comd system? Roll Call, Standby Bed, Kit Layout, Parade and Drill, Barrack/Dorm Orderliness, etc to instil esprit de corps?
MOD is no different from MOE, both have politicians as a minister! What a traversity of justice to the name of the ministry. Only in Malaysia!
Except for a few capable hard working ministers, most of the MP are incompetent for their positions. They just malkan gaji buta every month, shake legs in their offices.

Oh...every time any untoward incident happened, our minister or top management of that respective department will say "stern action" will be taken. Actually "stern action" covers what?? As there is no subsequent published report on the kind of action taken.
Bullying is a terrible behaviour.
If the Minister and the Ministry of defence take a lackadaisical attitude towards bullying, then such people should step down. They are incompetent and not worthy to hold such responsibility if they wash their hands off the seriousness of the matter.
Will they show such an attitude if their own child is the victim? As Mariam stated they get “gaji buta ” for work not done. What a shame.
