Moved into a new place for the first time and my dryer stopped functioning. I watched a lot of videos on youtube and ended up finding this gem, was able to take it out, successfully repair the broken belt, and put it back together by myself. After over 2 hours it finally worked. I was so graciously happy I couldn't even believe it. Thank you bossman for teaching me how to adult!
Just watched this ,heard a loud pop, thinking oh crap a new dryer, took apart belt, lowes had one,17$,hardest part the belt tensioner you wasn't kidding ,setting here listening for any strange noises,so far so good, thanks your vidio really helped!
I just bought this same dryer, and now I can see how easy it will be for me to replace the belt when time comes. Fortunately, my washer and dryer are in my garage, so I have plenty of space to work. Funny thing is that when I installed my new washer and dryer, the dryer would not stay on. It would only run as long as you held the start button down. GE did send a tech out two days later, and he said it was something with the belt after he opened it up. I tried watching, but I wanted to give him space to work. Thanks again for a great video.
This is a great video, thanks! TIP for anyone doing this -- it's much easier to get the belt around the drum and in the right place for the tensioner but not threaded on motor drive pin, then grab the tensioner and belt with your right hand (wrapped around the drum), pull that as far back as you can, then thread the belt onto the motor drive pin. Sort of the opposite order of operations as in the video, but the same result, and much easier to do blind. Also I went upstairs to look for my kid who should have been in school when the little girl yelled "daddy!", so thanks for freaking me out :)
Thank you 🙏 out of all the videos on UA-cam with the same ge dryer none of them showed how shitty it is to get the belt around the tensioner. Bought a new belt and put it on wrong but this video was a huge help I knew it was something I was doing wrong with the tensioner. Ty boss you saved me some $ and time.
Hey 1st off TY Very much for this video God Bless you! You really helped me out! Side note: About the belt I bought 3 belts from Amazon however each one Snaped on me in a matter of about 2 weeks or so. I decided to go to Lowes and get the one in this video. When i installed it I notice it was Much tighter than the Amazon ones. I thought I had the wrong size. But the Lowes belt worked perfectly. I think the Amazon ones maybe to big and was to slacked. I can only speak for what happened to me but I thought I should share this incase someone else had the same experience. Thank you again for making this video :)
Wow! thanks so much. I was just about to buy a new dryer when I saw your video. After watching it several times I thought, I can do that. I ordered the belt off Amazon and in about an hour and a half my dryer is working as good as new.
Great video , important tip about the tension-er wheel getting stuck , I put the front cover back on the first time and the belt was loose enough for me to get a finger in between. Also note all the hex head screws are 1/4"
I have this same model. My drum is still turning but I'm smelling burning rubber. I assume that is the belt about to break. I'll pull it apart and have a look. Thanks for doing this!
You saved us! I was worried that my tensioner was busted because of the incredible pull needed to wrap the belt correctly around it! Nope! Just took a lotta elbow grease!
Thank you for the tensioner bolt tip. I couldnt figure that out at first. Watched your video, looked and mine was the same and presto changeo it worked. Thank you again
How did you tighten the bolt? Still trying to figure that out. He says it's the one thing he didn't show and that's what I need to figure out 😂 mine looks the same...
This was incredibly helpful! Took everything apart and replaced the belt. Like someone else said the camera angles specifically during the part with the tension rod were hugely helpful. I just replaced the belt and tested it and it works but there’s a clear burning smell. Typical after replacing a new belt or is there another issue going on?
For the thread and screw part @7:08, how tight should I tighten the screw? All the way? Also what tool am I supposed to use? I'm a assuming some type of hex socket.
I got the 88" belt and i just cant get it to reach behind the tension rod. Same exact dryer 😢. But then again my 4 year old is kinda in the way "helping" 😆

Yes… perfect descriptions and views of everything. $17 and 2 hours well worth it

Exactly why I showed it. Thanks for the comment.

Glad I could help!

we smell burning rubber too... was it the belt? Thanks
@@Charlie141B Yes. The belt cured the issue.

Thank you for telling us who does and does not carry them. Id saw Amazon and Lowe's and you confirmed so I really appreciate that.
Great explanation. Camera angles were extremely helpful. Thanks for the tutorial, saved me time and money.

Yep!

@@meg3469 I had to do as much as I could with my fingers then it was a set of pliers to do the rest. It was too tight to get my wrench in or sockets
@@meg3469 also when I rolled the bolt back at first with my fingers it stayed mostly out of the way
Thank you. Those tensioner camera angles are very helpful.
They were a you know what to get...glad it helped. I really thought it was important to show that.
Thank you for the help! Was able to fix our dryer without very much hassle at all on the first attempt
God bless this man!
Thank you!
I just did this in our dryer today. Thank YOU so much!

I just replaced the belt and tested it and it works but there’s a clear burning smell. Typical after replacing a new belt or is there another issue going on?
Thank You for your video it really help with fixing ours ourselves
Great video!!! That tension roller was a work out😅

Thanks very much , this helped tremendously!
Replaced the belt but I still have this horrid grinding noise and it just feels like the drum isn’t settling in place. Any idea what it could be?
Any idea how the door wires go back together? I mistakenly pulled them apart
Extremely helpful video! Thank you!
Great video man! Going to get my belt soon, hope it goes smoothly. Haha.
Excellent video. Many thanks! (You saved me a few hundred bucks!)
