October is my favorite month to watch films and this month I focused exclusively on horrors. Coincidentally, I saw some films that you watched. Some horror films from your favorite studio and finally the film that inspired you as well.
1. Megan (better than new child's play)
2.The menu
3. The nun (worst film this month)
4. Fright Night(2011)
5. The hand that rocks the cradle
6. Prey
7. The house at the end of the street
8. Stir of echoes ( I love this film)
9. Constantine( like my 30th time)
10. Candyman
11. Nope
12. FRESH
13. Evil dead
14 The bone collector(sleep film)
15. The blackening
16. Bodies, Bodies,Bodies("bored in my house")
17. Talk to me (good but too hyped)
18. The lighthouse(finally saw this)
19. Midsommar
20. The rocky horror picture show(couldn't go to a showing so saw it with my female friend, she has seen a bunch)
21 No one will save you(hulu)
22. Totally killer(mandella effect clever)
23.X (I hated lorraine)
24. Five nights at Freddy's
25. The faculty ( one of my go tos)
26. Halloween film series except Rob zombies versions and the very last one I can't stand.
27. Scream film series 1-6(usual)
"Don't dream it, be it"
Cool mix of films, could listen to you talking about movies for days with your poise, timing & no nonsense summaries in your impeccably charming delivery. There were a lot of great series & episodes to check out in October - can rec The Burning Girls & Bodies as a couple of the better horror/thriller/sci-fi stories, Brie Larson is killing it on Lessons In Chemistry with a hypnotic performance, Loki blew up the multiverse & all the timeline branches, Doom Patrol finally came back to end their run, & House Of Usher got weird but had fun with all the Edgar Allan Poe easter eggs - & then there were the films. Had to revisit some Halloween classics & some from the past few years that are worthy of standing with the timeless masterpieces, but it wasn't all tricks & treats & monsters & spooks:
Pain Hustlers - Emily Blunt owns this, naturally
Boudica Queen Of War - Olga Kurylenko does not disappoint
The Wolf Man 1941
An American Werewolf In London/Paris
Werewolf By Night Colorized
Viking Wolf - fantastic Norwegian take on the lycanthrope mythology & creature feature, Netflix has an English dub too
Evil Dead trilogy, Evil Dead Rise
Don't Be Afraid Of The Dark 1973
The Blob 1958
The Thing From Another World 1951
The Thing 1982 & 2011
The Giant Behemoth 1959
Frankenweenie
Miss Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children
Beetlejuice
Nightmare Before Christmas
Mad Monster Party
Incident At Loch Ness - Werner Herzog didn't direct but he owns this Matryoshka doll documentary & it is totally hilarious & thrilling
18 1/2 Minutes
Desperation Road - Willa Fitzgerald is a force of nature & steals the show in these last two with her captivating, emotional & sympathetic presence & style
The Deep House - pretty scary one that dares to dive down to a haunted house under a lake in a French forest
After Midnight 2019 - love this indie monster flick/love story & it just keeps getting better with time
Absentia 2011
No One Will Save You - really liked this one, very strange story but they made it work & did an amazing job creating something that was both twisted Twilight Zone fable & an edge of your seat jump scary alien invasion
Donnie Darko
The Nun & The Nun II
Pet Sematary Bloodlines
Totally Killer - dumbed down a bit, same problem the Sabrina series had but still a lot of fun, & ended with a bang on the soundtrack with The Linda Linda's cover of the Ramones cover of The Music Explosion's cranking jam Little Bit O' Soul
The Vanishing Of Sidney Hall
My Salinger Year
Drunk Bus
The Wonderful Story of Henry.Sugar
Interesting... Sei un figone per cui combatterei...BELLA FF
Looking forward to seeing ANATOMY OF A FALL.
I mentioned BOTTOMS in last months video, but yes, it is a great film. Really funny and creative.
I've wanted to watch TOTALLY KILLER, but I have been on the fence about it. It looks okay, but I just feel the "going back in time and changing things in your family" trope has been done to death. Maybe when I am not so busy I will give it a shot.
Can't believe they didn't release NO ONE WILL SAVE YOU in theatres. Horror fans are really into new/newer horror ideas. I think this would have done pretty well. Alas, it was dumped on streaming and will likely escape the consciousness of audiences pretty fast. I do hope this doesn't derail Kaitlyn Dever's career. One of my favourite young actors working today.
I hate to say this, but I just can't see SOUND OF FREEDOM. I work in a movie theatre, so I had to hear Jim Caviezel's speech at the end of the movie at least 50 times, and it got worse and worse every time. I just hate that the end of the movie is not linking people to charities that help prevent child trafficking, but is instead asking people to "boldly" give the studio more money so they can buy tickets for other people who may not be able to afford to see the movie. Considering the act of giving away those tickets was suspect at best because I never really heard of anyone getting that free ticket, and the studio didn't advertise that they were giving out the tickets, I fear this may have been a grift.
So, FAIR PLAY is likely going to be on my list for worst films of the year. I saw this in a theatre on a special one week screening and I hated it! I think this movie would have been so much better if they made it more light-hearted. The performances are good but that's about it. Another problem I felt with it was if it was not going to be light-hearted, than really go for it. Turn Ehrenreich's character into an Andrew Tate bro. Make Dynevor become a sexually aggressive, money obsessed stock monster. Do something to make this not so cliche. Really considered walking out of this one. Especially after the r*pe scene.

As for the films I watched this month that I liked.
I saw I'M JUST HERE FOR THE RIOT, a film about the 2011 Stanley Cup Riots in Vancouver by Kat Jayme and Asia Youngman being shown at the Vancouver International Film Festival (VIFF). I was actually there for that riot. Just downtown though. I didn't do any rioting or property damage. It was interesting to see how a riot at the dawn of the mobile internet age was portrayed. Especially since there was another Stanley Cup riot in Vancouver in 1994 that it could be compared to. I do think the movie tried to humanize or excuse the actions of the rioters interviewed as actions of young people, but overall still a good movie.
Another VIFF film I saw this month was FITTING IN, starring Maddie Ziegler as a teen who is diagnosed with a condition in which she was born with no ovaries or uterus and a shallow vagina. Based on director Molly McGlynn's experience with the same condition, the film involves Ziegler's character navigating through adolescence with this secret issue that makes here feel inadequate. The movie wasn't anything special, but I like Ziegler's performance here and it is a well done little film.
I also saw the Indian film NAGINA from 1986. An interesting film about a man who falls in love with a woman who is actually a snake. Sridevi was really good in the film, especially with her snake dance at the end. I really do like classic Indian films. They have such bright colours and I just think the songs are better. Definitely recommend this one.
I also saw DICKS: THE MUSICAL this month and that film was hilarious! It's the kind of comedy film I like, where the humour is so absurd and you can watch it over and over again and find a joke that you missed or a joke in the background. There was only about 10 people in the theatre where I watched this but everyone was laughing so much it felt like the theatre was at least half full. Nathan Lane's character has a scene where he "feeds" his Sewer Boys and it is the most ridiculously funny thing I have seen in a movie this year.
Hi Debbie, as always congratulations on your videos! I have been following you for a really long time and you are always on top of the game with your reviews! 😃
Thanks of the movies I have jotted down several that I will definitely see !
For you I highly recommend a 1952 movie I saw recently called ''Sudden fear'' with actress Joan Crowford. It is a beautiful noir little remembered but wonderful ! 💁♀
I went to see Sound of Freedom in theatres and it was all old people there. For something so praised and hated, I was underwhelmed.
