You don’t see many videos on shipdock. In my opinion it’s the best area to be in. You have so much more freedom. I work in shipping in an FC in the UK. What we use to stack packages in is cardboard Gaylords, or ATS carts. We don’t wrap pallets anymore. Although most of our packages are sorted automatically into gaylords from the shipping sorter, and we just change them out when they’re full.
I am currently working at Amazon AUS2 in Pflugerville TX USA; I am very interested in working in outbound ship dock versus stowing/picking/packing/receiving. I like to walk or have mobility around the warehouse. Also I strongly preferred jobs that DOES NOT have to do with metric rates or being labor-tracked. They go to other Amazon facilities like sort centers and delivery stations where they get sorted out for delivery to specific areas. Fulfillment centers usually cover orders going out to potentially many areas. Delivery stations start to get more specialized to where the items will go to like within a city/neighborhoods.
Boxes are wrapped in plastic when put on a pallet to keep them from falling over, since the built pallet of boxes are moved around a lot from trailer to trailer, to different amazon centers before being delivered to the customers by the drivers. Correction @ 4:05 the blue / grey cages are *NOT* called "Gaylords." They are called "Go Carts." Gaylords are the big cardboard box that sits on a pallet that you can put packages in. You cut a "U" shape into to unload/load. Sadly Amazon is trying to get rid of these universal shipping containers aka Gaylords/ pallets in favor for these "Go Carts." These Go carts are only used in the AMZL ( Amazon Logistics) & sort network. UPS & other carriers does not accept this shipping container method for a few reasons. A. The Go Carts are EXTREAMLY dangerous, B. These Go Carts are owned and made by Amazon and aren't Universal, C. They have to be sent back to a Amazon Sort center. That is why they are only used in Amazon's own delivery service (AMZL). Supposedly they are there to save money & to make it seem like the company is going green. But once these carts brake they aren't fixable and get thrown away. Plastic & metal doesn't go well with the the environment so I'm not sure why they are using these Go Carts. They can only be used so many times before it brakes down and are rendered useless. But hey, what do I know? I just work with these at Amazon daily and see them brake and get sent to the garbage afterwards. They suck and they need to go back to using Gaylords/ pallets. At least those are recyclable, cost less, & have a less impacted on the environment. Go Carts are $500 per cart as Gaylords are $12 per Gaylord. Who ever came up with these Go Carts should be fired and be put into jail for not thinking this through. Sorry for the rant but I had to correct you so those who don't work at Amazon know, and can help change this. These Go Carts are new and only been around for the last year so the more people that are aware of this awful invention, the sooner we can get rid of them.
Lmao you packed that blue cart up so nicely, I just got crossed train to ob shipdock and mine are terrible and only like 70% full when I run out of space 😂
I swear that how mine use to be. I was to short to reach the top sometimes and truthfully the boxes never looked like they was matching together. As time went on I learned the boxes size what matches with what and how much of a certain smal box will add up to a box box
in the Amazon Site I work at (MME1 in the UK) What you call a gaylord we call a JPS Cart/ATS Cage. What we call Gaylords are Cardbord frames that sit on a pallet and we put a base piece of card in the bottom then pack the parcels into that.

I been working at Amazon in pack flow for a little over a year now. The only thing I like about it is that I can interact with the ladies(when the managers are not around) they tend to force me to push totes, go to another station, AFE2 or singles when there’s not enough work in the wall. Recently, they made me sort. It’s hard to move at their standards due to my movement speed(compared to young people) and my eyes that are getting bad. That’s why I’m thinking about transferring to finding someplace else to work at.
Ship clerk would be in charge of opening/closing dock doors, clearing door before being opened, finding missing pallets packing trucks if not already packed
@@AshlieGray If I’m not mistaken, you’re mainly a picker right? It’s cool, I was told ship dock is where it’s at. I’m kinda looking forward to it I’m gonna be starting and 7:30. A lot better than 6:30 in stow.
If you're scanning/building pallets, which was the main ship dock job when I was there, they'll bring up rate once in a while but it isn't strict like pick/stow/pack. As long as you keep busy you're good. They probably just want people to know it's not a free for all, and if you just wander off they'll know. The flow/type of work is really too random to hold someone to a strict rate.
hi I'm planning to apply but I just want to know are they (Amazon ) particular with the height or is there a height requirement and for a seasonal part time do you have any idea how many hours they give you for a week? Are you base in East coast?
In a week you get 40 hours. And when you have peak you will work 60 hours. I am not understanding what you mean when you say height. Are you talking about then horsing people depending on their actual height because if so they don’t have a problem with that.
I am a picker ,when I first applied at Amazon You take a mini quiz to test you on the type of position that are available.it does not matter on height, weight and disability.and when I applied you get to see the different shift that are available for you,I chose a 36 hr shift per week. But I do overnight and I only come in Thursday-Saturday.meaning 12 hr shift . I work at a fulfillment center at HOU2 .(Houston)
Inbound focuses on bringing packages into the building ( unpacking trucks and products) while outbound focuses on brining packages out ( loading up the trucks)
You are either loading boxes and products on a line to be packed by someone or your the one doing the packing to put products in totes so people can stow them .
No this was the first time and yes it was hard starting out. Because of the consistent walking. I have worked at McDonald’s before this and talk way a lot of walking and standing but I was in a small building. Amazon is a really big place with a lot of walking
why is it that everyone is like oh you have to do this or that and work so fast because they'll be watching you and if you don't go fast enough they'll fire you? but you were working just fine seemed to me. probably they do watch but not as bad as all that.
They do watch you but in shipdock we didn’t have much packages so they can’t really do anything to you about it. But when your picking then say your rate should be 100 or above sometime mines is 80-100 and no one ever spoke to me before
@@ReinBerRB I am aware of that thank you but there is no setting in the scanner that says go cart. It says Gaylord so I am telling people what to expect.
Absolutely. Water spidering is easy. The only time you might get tired or annoyed while water spidering is when it’s time to pull the CPTs and you have 14 and it only 2 water spiders
Only in the break room, if you get caught with it on the floor the will either write you up , or terminate you. ( but the building you are applying for may be difficult so ask just incase

We mostly use "Gaylords" for our trash and if we have an abundance for stuff for donating stuff!
They are Called go carts:)
I worked in every department but Ship Doc and single pack was the only good departments
As time went on I learned the boxes size what matches with what and how much of a certain smal box will add up to a box box
gonna start my part time job at Amazon next week! I'm excited to finally have a job! Thanks for the video! We are essential workers!
Still there?
@@edman813lol nah
How to create platte and cart?
It’s so confusing my third day
Thank you! This helps me to decide what to do next in my Amazon job👍
Thanks merci beaucoup, am starting next week, Amazon France
in the Amazon Site I work at (MME1 in the UK) What you call a gaylord we call a JPS Cart/ATS Cage. What we call Gaylords are Cardbord frames that sit on a pallet and we put a base piece of card in the bottom then pack the parcels into that.
Nice to know.
a fellow MME1 worker, Im starting back at the site today for the 3rd time. Hopefully this time i can stick at it

where is shipdock? is it in a fulfillment center? or delivery warehouse or somethin?
Fulfillment center
Is this considered receive dock? I see this position but they never describe what it is
I do work out outbound myself at Amazon so definitely I get what you're coming from this definitely was a great video I don't make videos like this to be honest but I just keep that to my private life but you never know this video might motivate me to make a video about it
Well on day you should definitely make one. A lot of people just wanna watch videos like this so when they start they have a sense of what they're doing.
I'll be transferring to ship dock in a week and im so excited ! Thankyou for this video :)))
No problem hun !
Dtw9 just over a month now. You have the only video of go carts. We move these 24 hrs. Cool video thank you.
No Problem Hun !
Thank you for this video! it was my Day 1 at ship dock last night. this helps a lot! keep it up!👏👏
No problems love
How did you like it ?
@@stassisspace6632 i just got off my 2nd day honestly it’s ALOT of physical work! If you are very active it will be better, me personally I’ve never been super active but it’s not too bad. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE COMFORTABLE SHOES!!!! My building requires safety shoes and gave me a voucher to order some free of charge. I’m waiting on my shoes to arrive and my feet are killing me. Also a back brace will help im going to buy my own tomorrow bc girlllll MY LOWER BACK IS KILLING ME😭😭😭but seriously the work isn’t so bad the worst part in my opinion is loading the trucks. I love scanner and water spider doesn’t seem bad.

You guys dont have pallet jacks?
We do
I’m seeing l these names and don’t know which one to choose😭😭😭
Did you ever use a forklift or any other machinery?
No, the most I used was a pallet jack
How much is the pay? I only make 15 at the grocery Amazon’s in a hate it because them 2 hrs in the freezer I’m transferring to a cross dock
Gaylord or Cart? And why do you pack the boxes standing straight up?
Your loading skills are next level!
hi, Is it possible to work on Amazon using headphones?
Is this the outbound shipdock?
so what role do they usually start a new hire in ?
Whatever role you apply for
@@AshlieGray mine just said “warehouse associate” so what role is that?
So what do you call the ones that prepare the bins for the dsp drivers?
2 Chronicles 7:14 14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.REPENT TO THE MOST HIGH. EVERY DAY IS A BLESSING 2 REPENT ALL PRAISE TO THE HOLY ONE OF ISRAEL
Thanks, I think very well explained and informative.
I worked shipdock.... we loaded the trucks too staged the carts etc... returned the empty bags to the shelving... it was so heavy.... i don't know how people didn't get hernias... and that word gaylord on the floor was really unnecessary... it should have been worded differently...
Then these carts get sent to the delivery stations?
Yes
What happens if someone forgets to scan an item or scan it twice
Hey and the package just won’t have a updated location until it gets to the where it’s being transported to next. ( if you every don’t have any updates on your packages or it appears at your house when it was suppose to still be somewhere else. Someone just forgot to scan it
@@AshlieGray but where the item goes if u don't scan? Does it go back to u?
On the flat sorter when I was feeding the packages ? Or when I was scanning thing into the boxes and carts ?
@@AshlieGray when you were scanning things into boxes and carts
Nothing will happen. It will get to where it need to be. It will only be a problem if it was late and then I added it to the box without scanning
Can you send a video on picking
hope im not a bother but i just saw that my department says FC Shipping, do you know what i’ll possibly be doing?
You are not a bother at all. And fc is where I worked so what I do in majority of the videos I made is what you will either do and what you might see other people doing I’m the building
What do people do in the receiving department ?
Packages come off the truck and they take them and place them on uboats so stowers can stow them. You can also stow items into bins
@@AshlieGray I just found out I'm in Vendor Receive specifically. Do they have their own station ,?
I'm a process assistant for outbound packing at my amazon facility and I love my job
Hey, do you happen to know what FC SUPPORT means? That’s the department I’ll be starting in.
I’m not completely sure love, but it may have something to do with returned/refunded products.
@@AshlieGray Understood. Thanks! Hope all is well :)
I would probably love ship dock if I had a shorter shift & my manager would switch up the rotation of pushing freight. Doing that all day isn’t fun
Omg I feel the same lately , lately the managers have been going crazy and doing unfair things so I avoid it at all costs
Is this the same thing as chip clerk ?
Ship clerk would be in charge of opening/closing dock doors, clearing door before being opened, finding missing pallets packing trucks if not already packed
flex sorting is on outbound or inbound..... or both??
Are all the ship dock job the same or different state have different job I’m from Ohio
First time ever commenting on any UA-cam channel but damn this what I do all day everyday shipdock I kinda like it and we do exactly same thing 😭🙌🏽
Love these videos! Appreciate it greatly! :)
I’m transferring to ship dock at my fc in a week. Do they have a rate?
Yes but I do not know it
@@AshlieGray If I’m not mistaken, you’re mainly a picker right? It’s cool, I was told ship dock is where it’s at. I’m kinda looking forward to it I’m gonna be starting and 7:30. A lot better than 6:30 in stow.
That correct. But I would rarely pick because they would move me around so much
If you're scanning/building pallets, which was the main ship dock job when I was there, they'll bring up rate once in a while but it isn't strict like pick/stow/pack. As long as you keep busy you're good. They probably just want people to know it's not a free for all, and if you just wander off they'll know. The flow/type of work is really too random to hold someone to a strict rate.
@@pr53188 how long do you have to wait before you can transfer to a different department?
hi I'm planning to apply but I just want to know are they (Amazon ) particular with the height or is there a height requirement and for a seasonal part time do you have any idea how many hours they give you for a week? Are you base in East coast?
In a week you get 40 hours. And when you have peak you will work 60 hours. I am not understanding what you mean when you say height. Are you talking about then horsing people depending on their actual height because if so they don’t have a problem with that.
I am a picker ,when I first applied at Amazon
You take a mini quiz to test you on the type of position that are available.it does not matter on height, weight and disability.and when I applied you get to see the different shift that are available for you,I chose a 36 hr shift per week.
But I do overnight and I only come in Thursday-Saturday.meaning 12 hr shift .
I work at a fulfillment center at HOU2 .(Houston)
I love this jobs and I don't have a choice for working at Amazon, can you tell me where do you lived??
Is this a fulfillment center position?
Yes
What is FC RECEIVING(010)? I’m nervous
Your bringing things into the building. Scanning it and putting them onto uboats so stowers can get it to stow
What is the difference between INBOUND SHIP DOCK AND OUTBOUND????
Inbound focuses on bringing packages into the building ( unpacking trucks and products) while outbound focuses on brining packages out ( loading up the trucks)
@@AshlieGray Oh ok. Question: Do you know what does INBOUND RECEIVE DOCK is?
You are either loading boxes and products on a line to be packed by someone or your the one doing the packing to put products in totes so people can stow them .
@@AshlieGray AND NO RATE, Correct?!?!👀👀👀👀
@@AshlieGray That’s something I’ll really love! Thank you so much. Wish me luck 🍀.🤞🏾 I applied for it!
Have you ever worked in a warehouse before this and is it hard starting out?
No this was the first time and yes it was hard starting out. Because of the consistent walking. I have worked at McDonald’s before this and talk way a lot of walking and standing but I was in a small building. Amazon is a really big place with a lot of walking
did you say water spider?
Yes
What does receive dock do ?
They are the ones that get the boxes off the line and place them on U-boats for stowing to stow
why is it that everyone is like oh you have to do this or that and work so fast because they'll be watching you
and if you don't go fast enough they'll fire you? but you were working just fine seemed to me. probably they do watch but not as bad as all that.
They do watch you but in shipdock we didn’t have much packages so they can’t really do anything to you about it. But when your picking then say your rate should be 100 or above sometime mines is 80-100 and no one ever spoke to me before
Actually no tot when ur lifting 50 pounds to 100 pound packages. Ship dock is the hardest department
Those aren’t gaylords, the gaylords are the cardboard boxes with no top or bottom that transport the boxes to sort/load
I’m aware but we call it a Gaylord due to us not having a actual button for it when setting it up and opening it on the scanner.
Those are go carts
@@ReinBerRB I am aware of that thank you but there is no setting in the scanner that says go cart. It says Gaylord so I am telling people what to expect.
@@ReinBerRB you are so correct...
@@AshlieGray yes there is a button for carts. You need to scan by cart ID first and then use pallet
Is it easy to become a water spider?
Absolutely. Water spidering is easy. The only time you might get tired or annoyed while water spidering is when it’s time to pull the CPTs and you have 14 and it only 2 water spiders
@@AshlieGray thank you!! Can you bring headphones inside?
Only in the break room, if you get caught with it on the floor the will either write you up , or terminate you. ( but the building you are applying for may be difficult so ask just incase
@@AshlieGray thank you!
Was this position ship dock inbound or outbound ?
Outbound
Thanks so much for this question..
I heard cellphone is not allowed in your work station?
They are allowed, but should not be used
I will flat sort all day! Beats being a picker.
True. I was in pack singles for my first 2 or so months, went to ship dock, I’ve been on the dock ever since. I’m a fluid loader and a “cart water spider”
The whole Covid era was so crazy working in that hot ass warehouse barely being able to breathe as is and being forced to wear those horrible cloth masks that got filthy with sweat and saliva and hot air and basically did nothing to prevent transmission and not being able to breathe properly, crazy shit.
I might not listen carefully but is this a AR robotic blinding?
I’m not sure what that is ?
