I like the simplicity of the delivery here. This is problem, this is my thought process, this is me doing it. Also, the drawings absolutely kill me, hilarious.
I feel like I most often encounter slab is when I'm at least 90 ft above my friends, 30 ft from my last piece, and at least 1,500 mi from where I really want to be, which is my mom's house, wrapped in a blanket while she makes me tea and tells me I'll be okay
As an old person slab is literally my favorite type of climbing. You can just sit there thinking and experimenting for hours and hours without overtaxing the body.
Although I am a middle aged overweight man, who started bouldering 8 months ago I love slabs. My legs are strong enough even to get the 50kg of overweight at the start up the wall. My hands and fingers even after 30kg+ drop not so much. And I love balance ;-)
@@biomorphic go slow. 3 years ago, I came back to climbing and just assumed I could climb as hard 6 days a week at 51 as I could at 22. 3 years and many injuries later, I finally learned I gotta take it slow. Be patient.
@@biomorphic it sucks. I had a chance to go last night, but I knew today I would be climbing with a friend, and I don’t want to ruin that. I had gone the previous night.
Amazing vid! You are the one who inspired me to do slab again after i sprained my ankle on a slab climb a few months ago. I love your energy, thanks for sharing that with us!! ❤️❤️
Holy shiz that red climb with Dan was ridiculous! I had to rewatch it 5 times to figure out what the heck he was even steppin on. You definitely need him in future videos!
We have a small slab wall in our slab gym. It's always the first climb of my session. I do like slab but at a very beginner level. Underhangs are a real challenge though! Great work, Anna. Always enjoy your videos.
other climber: "Crimpy slab is my jam" me: "I love sketchy smeary might-eat-a-volume slab" other climber: "We are different people" there's a slab for everyone
I love slabs cuz I got no finger strength no more, I'm just happy to stick to it and do my fav sport. It also good for meditational blindfolded bouldering to get a feeling of your movements and body on the wall.
I love a bit of slab at my local gym - it saves my arms and lets me take the time to focus on technique like footwork and balance and has helped me improve so much. I also feel a lot safer going for a hard reach when I'm on a slab than when I'm hanging off the wall. I went a bit too far towards slab last session, though - I ended up with fairly fresh arms and exhausted fingers.
A darn nice sess! Just getting over slab-avoidance after failing and hitting a volume with my ankle over a year and a half ago. Still tape the ankle and am back on the slab wall slowly moving up the grades.
You should check out red rock canyon across from the garden of the g ds in Colorado Springs. So many slab routes on sandstone. I think you would dig that place!
That red looked rather gnarly, good effort! I must say, while I'm on ok terms with slab, I wouldn't touch a nail biter problem like that with a ten foot pole 😅. Completely a skill issue tho lol. I'd say my relationship with slab would be a bit more rocky tho if not for the fact that a little over a year ago on my 21st birthday I got my first V6 on a crimpy slab problem.
The gym I climb at has 6 colour grades, my first 3rd colour grade was a lot like the first climb in your video! I don't understand climbing lexicon, that said, slabs look really rewarding
My wrists were hurting last week, so I started trying some more balancy slab routes that didn't require a lot of wrist strength. It's been fun, but not the most successful haha. Slabs can be pretty scary though
I've only started bouldering in the last few months and way prefer these technical slab climbs, i can only do a handful attempts at caves an more powerful problems as i just don't have the endurance an keep ripping skin off my fingers
I don't avoid the slab wall, but they only set one intermediate there, and for the rest I can't even get into the start position 😢 I still really enjoy slab and always look for it, hopefully one day I'll rival our slab queen
I find slab with no-hands step-ups tricky because I'm 5ft so everything turns into a no-hands pistol squat 😅 but I've learned to love slab even though my first love are dynos
It's just so difficult to set this indoors! And a lot of gyms put up in the last 10 years or so didn't see the need for legit slab wall sections because it's a style that heavily went out of vogue. Hoping that in some small way slab starts being sexy again and you'll see this reflected in gyms and sets as well 🤞🏽
“I tend to not be dynamic” - immediately jumps into hard starting position🤷♂️💪 Have you used the new shaman pro yet? Really eager to give them a try but they’re hard to find where I’m at..
😂😂 Im trying to be more dynamic! Lolz. I’ve used the new shaman pros but they’re a bit aggressive for the style of climbing I tend to do! But they’re nice :)
I wish the text font u use had some darker border. it sometimes really hard to read when its on top of a bright background.. otherwise an exellent video..
I use friend guest passes mainly, or the gym lets me in for filming :) Plus I'm in the industry so I get the industry discount (look into this if you work in the climbing industry-- LA gym passes for a day if no one gets me in are $5)
I do avoid the slab wall at my gym. It is just crazy high (tallest wall in the gym) and it is dangerous. People seriously injure themselves there on a regular basis and I watch someone gettting carried out of there by paramedics at least once a month. Last time was two weeks a go and it was a lady who ended up having her foot bent 180° the wrong direction. I liked the slab wall at my old gym, which was half the height and also set in a way that you wouldn't fall as shitty.
I like the simplicity of the delivery here. This is problem, this is my thought process, this is me doing it. Also, the drawings absolutely kill me, hilarious.
I think you nailed the "how to slab" aspect because that is exactly what slab should be, fun with friends.
haha yesss love this
I feel like I most often encounter slab is when I'm at least 90 ft above my friends, 30 ft from my last piece, and at least 1,500 mi from where I really want to be, which is my mom's house, wrapped in a blanket while she makes me tea and tells me I'll be okay
@@breezyillo2101 😂 hahaha the truthhhh
As an old person slab is literally my favorite type of climbing. You can just sit there thinking and experimenting for hours and hours without overtaxing the body.
what do you mean "old person"? 30 yo range? 40, 50, 60, 70, 80 yo range? or "old" means falling = never climb again ?
I feel the exact opposite 🤔slab is a risk on my fingers, I have to limit my attempts
To me slabs are the worst because falling means scratching and bumping into the wall, while overhang are just a fall into the mattress
old person? "mf you look 30"
Thanks

Exuding joy while teaching & learning. Wonderful.
Thank you! 😃
The drawings had me laughing everytime, just amazing, pls continue doing those
I like your enthusiasm and the way how you do/tell things. enjoyed watching this.
I love your energy! Thanks for letting me find ways to still enjoy slab while I steer clear for a while after an injury from a slab top out.
Slab wall is great for improving technique and overall progression of seeing a problem, it makes climbing on the walls easier in my opinion
Amazing vid! You are the one who inspired me to do slab again after i sprained my ankle on a slab climb a few months ago. I love your energy, thanks for sharing that with us!! ❤️❤️
The excitement this gave me... Anna Hazelnutt posting vids of the slab set at my gym? AMAZING!!! I can't get the last two :(
Last two are tough!! You can try our beta! It's nice cause Dan and I have two very distinct betas on them that you can give a whirl :)
Yesss, more slab lessons from the slab queen pls❤️❤️❤️
Yes yes! More coming your way!
i am only ten seconds into the video but omg your makeup suits you so well, it's absolutely gorgeous
Omg thank you!!

Your wish is my command! Dan will appear in yet another upcoming video 😋 Yeah ahha I love hoe differently we do that climb!
Thank you for this primer on slab, and for the inspiring eye look! I'm going to wear something similar in blue today. 💙
first video I've seen from your channel. instant sub after that intro. can't wait to watch more

Oh that’s sick! Hells yeah!
I love your eye make up Anna!
I'll always love your energy. Glad you are having fun down there :-)
Ayyy that's my gym!! Slab is my favorite climbing, and slab lab is my favorite part of that gym!
I lOVE the slab lab!
that high foot on the red was mental. I definitely need to have a fun with friends slab session!
The last sent crimp of you was craaazy! 😮
The look and little shimmy at 9:34 after falling were amazing
Avoiding the slab?! Hell no, it's the main reason I'm watching this channel!
Slab is actually kind of fun, wish my home gym did more slab sets. Balance is like the only real skill I’ve got going for me at the moment 😂 lol

Loved the video! I can't wait to see some videos on your trip with Tom!
This is why coffee and climbing are good
slabs are my fav!!!! love this

Dan falling off at the end 😂 such a perfect outro
😂😂 it’s so perfect. The fan cool off was essential this chaotic session
I love the fact that you had Flight of the Conchords playing.❤
Always good to reunite with your shenanigans Anna. : )
Hell yeah dude. Anna the Slab Slayer.
I love slabs cuz I got no finger strength no more, I'm just happy to stick to it and do my fav sport. It also good for meditational blindfolded bouldering to get a feeling of your movements and body on the wall.
i really wish the gyms closest to me had more slab stuff but it’s always makes slab a little bit more fun when i do climb some of it

hell yeah!!
Man, I really hope my gym has a slab wall. This looks super fun!
Juicy and delicious 😂 You totally nailed the last one. Well done girl for not giving up and no letting frustration to take place. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
A darn nice sess! Just getting over slab-avoidance after failing and hitting a volume with my ankle over a year and a half ago. Still tape the ankle and am back on the slab wall slowly moving up the grades.
I have this permanent scar on my shin from a slab gone wrong... but for some reason I always go back haha. Get it!!
You've inspired me, going to try all the hard slab at the gym tonight.

great slab video thanks, and your make up looks great

how do you go to all the gyms in SoCal? Do you just have memberships with every gym franchise?

My gym has three slab walls, 3 vertical and 3 inclined (varying). I love my gym because I am bad at overhangs. 😁
Ooooo that’s amazing, where is your gym? Haha
@@AnnaHazelnutt It's in Lyon, France. If you ever come by, I'm sure you'd have some fun on the slabs, they're usually quite technical
It was hard to force myself to climb slabs…until I moved to Bishop.
LOVE the bishop slabs omg. This is a fun foreshadowing for my next episode as well...
Spider woman!! 💯💯❤️
Am I the only young guy that likes slabs? I've climbed v5s and v6s when I can barely do v4 on any other degree of angle.
Love Mesa Rim Mira Mesa....I've be able to do 1-4 on their slab....you make it look too easy 🤦
I long the slab, I pray to the slab I lick the slab " I AM THE SLAB"
Now do this for outdoor slab boulders.
Outdoor slab video coming up next 👀
Am I the only one who wonders all the time how Anna attached the microphone transmitter to her leggings?
that song around 7:00 has me turning on mute thow 😵💫
How do you recognize a climb as slab? I oddly keep seeing this as a huge debate in my gym so it'd be cool to know.
Slabs are walls any degree last vertical (in the positive direction). It shifts weight more onto your feet the more “slabby” the wall gets.
Have you climbed with Magnus?
do you do lessons
or group training
Sometimes I reach slab clinics! Mainly outdoors though
i noticed at my bouldering gym mostly alot of girls avoid the slab wall because they dont trust their feet
I notice women actually tend to like/do better with slabs generally. I find that most beginners, of every gender, tend not to trust their feet.
I do avoid the slab wall at my gym. It is just crazy high (tallest wall in the gym) and it is dangerous. People seriously injure themselves there on a regular basis and I watch someone gettting carried out of there by paramedics at least once a month.

Imagine avoiding the slab wall.
😂😂😂 ikr

Slabs are about technique and how you get better not just power through it.
