If you are experiencing Lionel Legacy Command Signal Issues, or your trains are running erratically then this video is a must watch!!!!
About this Channel - My name is George, and I would like to welcome you to my O Scale Layout! I am a Model Train Enthusiast, Scale Modeler, Builder.
This channel is dedicated to sharing my fine scale layout, and Lionel O Gauge Trains with you. I designed & built this complex layout with the purpose of simultaneously running as many trains as possible as well as realistic train operations.
Fun Fact: I was part of the construction management team during the construction of a train platform, adjoining train tracks and switches in real life. I share this experience in one of my videos!
I enjoy operating the layout and making really cool train videos to share with you.

"Now I can't stand here all day with my hand above the trains... Hey Niko can you come in here?" 😅😛
Another great tutorial, I've definitely had my share of troubleshooting electrical or software issues when there isn't much info out there. Great job getting to the bottom of it and sharing a solution!

Excellent video. I have this issue on our SF Bay Area club layout with my Vision Line GS-4's. I spent much time as you to figure out a solution. Unfortunately, the people who control work on the layout don't find it a major concern since their equipment runs fine and nothing has been done to fix it. Lionel did create a video addressing this issue but you've done a much better job explaining it completely. Thanks

    George,
Thank for the info. It amazes me why more layouts don't have this problem.
This happened to me years ago and the fix was just like you stated however instead of using wire between or under the track,
I connected the ground wire from the outlet to two sided metal tape, the kind used in HVAC. One side has a stopped

Hi Geena! Your welcome, I am surprised as well! (I think the rest of your comment may have gotten cut off somehow) I am glad to hear that you found a way to fix your issue. Metal tape connected to the ground wire makes total sense. I would also think that any piece of metal, or as you stated, metal tape connected to the ground wire would work very well. I am happy to hear that I am not the only one this has happened to! Thank you for subscribing and commenting. I really appreciate it!!

As I start building my layout, this is the type of info I need beforehand. Thanks, George, for an easy-to-understand video. I missed seeing Niko in this video. Tell him I said hello and hope to see both of you guys in the next one.

Hi Tom! I am so happy to have provided this info to you in time to build your layout. I wish I knew this when I was building mine. Yes, I try very hard to make things easy to understand as I find this not to be the case with a lot of the stuff that is out there. Ha! Niko says hello! Niko and I are currently working on another video that I hope to have out soon. Thank you again Tom, we really appreciate it!!

Hi Keith! Your welcome my friend! This just happened to me this week, and I had no idea what happened or how to solve it. There is only bits and pieces of information out there, and an old video from over ten years ago regarding this issue. On top of that, most of the legacy trains were affected, but not all of them which made it even more confusing. So I decided to piece together all the info and make a complete video showing the cause and solution to help all my model train friends out there!!!

That was a fantastic learning tutorial George!! You did a great job figuring this thing out. It must have driven you crazy seeing your trains run erratically after the misfortune of having a tree fall on the outside wires. I’ve had some issues with my Legacy base communicating, but nothing compared to this. My “U” post loosened up inside the Legacy Base, and my signal wasn’t being sent out consistently to the outside rails. Upon inspection, I saw that it was loose, and I opened up the underside cover, and discovered the loose “U” post. I tightened it back up, put it back together, and voilà, I was back in business!! Great video George!! I learned a lot more about the earth ground, and what to look out for.

HI Tom! Thank you very much! Yes, it absolutely drove me crazy trying to figure out what happened. I had no idea about the dynamics of the Legacy system. I just wish I knew this stuff when I was building the layout. I am not looking forward to running wires on top of a finished layout! Ultimately, I am just happy that I was able to find a solution and get things working again. Glad to see that you were able to fix your legacy issues as well with the "U" post. Thanks for the heads up with that info as well! 😀👍

Hi George, I'm not an O scale modeler but really enjoyed learning about the signal issues with the Lionel Command signals. This was another well presented subject that was informative and based on factual research. Maybe Lionel should put this in their brochures. Another well produced tutorial.. Thanks for sharing your trouble shooting, research and how to fix the problem. If you are not a professional teacher consider making that move!! Thanks, John

Hey George get video, how do we contact you? Love your knowledge, I’m loosing signal to my Mth dcs is it the same problem, my Tmcc locos run better than my Mth! I use both Mth and tmcc at the same time! My layout is in process and can be seen on Illinois central fan here on UA-cam! Would love your comments on my power and possible signal problems thanks

I will do my best to try and help you!!!

Thanks again George. I have one more issue, maybe you have some ideas. Once I move about 5 feet from my legacy base, the controller loses connection. I’ve tried changing to each channel, but it still loses connection.
The software version is cab1.70 and base 1.60. My layout is elevated 8 ft above the floor. If you have any ideas, I would really appreciate if you would share them. Thank you for all your great and informative videos!

    • @trainwild
      @trainwild  Рік тому +1

No Problem! I have been looking up your issue, and what I have gathered so far is the following: 1) The handheld remote and base should be updated to the latest firmware. 2) The cab 2 remote should be updated first, then the base should be updated. 3) The base should be placed in a properly grounded outlet. 4) If the base is plugged in to a strip outlet, unplug it from the strip outlet and plug it directly into the wall outlet. 5) Try each channel again if you had to do any of the items mentioned above. 6) Lionel has unlimited warranty on Legacy systems no matter how old, and no need for a receipt on the legacy system since parts are not sold for it. Call Lionel and get a Return Authorization number (RA) and send it back for repair. Apparently, they have improved their service recently regarding Legacy base and remote connection issues, and they are either repairing or replacing the remote and or base under warranty. I will keep looking into this to see if I can come up with anything else. Hope this helps!
