I do the same thing but I screwed a piece of thick plywood to the two boards near the rails. Love the layout George, one of the best on UA-cam.

On the openings, make them hinged doors so you can add some color or trees, or even a building or 2 on them. Go under, unlatch, swing down open and rise on up.

Hey Aaron, yes that's a great tip and can work well for many modelers. However, this does not work in my case because of the irregular size of the openings due track layout, and clearance issues underneath due to the under the table switch machines. The doors would partially open which does not provide enough clearance to rise up through. Thanks for your comment and for watching, I really appreciate it!

Standing in the middle of the Layout actually shows how Big your Layout really is. It huge. Oh, how I hated climbing up on my old Layout. I could not reach anything in the back. And as it always goes, that's where things always go wrong. Last Fall after having problems I decided I was so tired of getting up on my Layout, removing all the buildings and people so I just started Ripping it apart and built the new one. Made sure I could reach all my Track this time and most everything else. Simple is definitely sometimes the best route. There are videos of my old Layout and it was very crowded. Nice Video for Beginners. Hopefully they will watch this and take it a run with it. 👍🚂

Ha! your right, somehow the trains always derail where you cant reach them! Thank you for your comments! I appreciate it!

Agreed…depth perception on videos is weird! That layout is way bigger than it looks.

This is an excellent video! These kinds of practical, day-to-day tips are incredibly valuable for modelers. The wooden "bridge" is a fantastic idea, especially if you have the space to implement it. Your channel is a real gem, keep up the fantastic work! 👍

I chose to make my layout an island layout for this reason. I also measured my max reach and kept almost everything within reach. I have to admit thou. Layouts like yours that have a sky or backdrop adds a lot to the layout. I never noticed your access holes. Interesting concept. Some people have access panels/doors. Yours is just excess hole. Your idea is a good one. 0:04
