Good questions everyone! Thanks. Keep sharing. The more folks that ask questions the more we learn. I expect Dave's presentation to cover some of our questions but I'm sure there is a lot he can't squeeze into a presentation so keep them coming. I invite other O Gauge Train UA-cam channels to let their followers know as well. It will benefit them in the end.
Plans for a Cab-3 remote? I will be interested in a base-3 only if there is a compatible legacy remote. Definitely will not be buying if a screen is the only interface.

I think the app is the remote. It certainly solves the availability issue that plagued the Cab2 by eliminating manufacturing.
@@schmaggin yes the App is one of 3 "remotes" available with Base3 including Cab2 and Cab1L. Dave did not entirely rule out a hardware remote but I wouldn't hold my short term breath.
When are they bringing the Cab 2 back? As a lot of us aren't interested in using our cell phones that we use all day just to have to use them in our favorite hobby. At least the Cab 2 connected you mechanically (toggles, dials, buttons) and mentally (sequences) with your layout... it was designated! A phone that apparently won't have according to Lionel all the options of Cab 2 is suppose to be better? Big layouts.. 10-12 people androids and i phones is this cab 3 going to melt itself into the floor?
We are already asking about the possibility of getting a hardware remote. Let me know if there is more to your question.

For those already with a Cab2/Base2 , are there different options for adding the Base3? Does the Base3 replace the Base2 and the Base2 becomes dormant with the Base3 the only component now connected to the track?
What about folks with LCS devices - do they unplug from the Base2 and connect to the Base3?
I need to re-watch videos, but what if anything needs to be re-done if moving a setup from Cab2/Base2 to a Base3?
Does Lionel have any plans to open the Base3 up to external applications/devices such as other web apps, mobile apps, desktop apps, controllers, etc?

What is Lionel doing to update the LCS apps not covered by CAB3 app? LCS last updated 2016, iCab last updated 2017. If this is how infrequent LCS and other apps related have been supported- can I expect better support and update lifespan in Base3?

I saw Dave at Lionel in a video in the last couple of weeks say they are trying to find a developer to work on it but no one wants to move/work at the Lionel office. They all want to work from home.
Where on the OGR forum do I submit questions? It was either Dave or Ryan who told me how to connect a CAB 1 to the CAB 3 base with some sort of adapter that would be available but I can't remember what he said. Also with a locomotive assigned 4 digits through the CAB 3, how would it be addressed through a CAB 2 or CAB 1 with 2 digits? An update of the CAB 2 controller would be better than using smart phones which is too rinky dink. A backward compatible handheld controller with LCD display should be developed.
You’re good asking your questions here. From the above, it looks like you have three questions. One how you can use cab1 with Base3, second how is four digit addressing is handled in the Cab2, and three will they make a new controller. Is that correct?
Yes that's about it. My suggestion about a new controller is a question about if they would consider developing it. Voice control is not a thing with me and I don't think with other O gauge people either. It can be frustrating to work with. The CAB 2 is a great controller, very versatile. Another one like it with more advanced electronics, and with a battery recharging system that actually works would be great. I may think of other questions and if I do I'll post them.@@MartyE

Dennis hopefully this event may help clear up some things. Once Base 3 is out I am sure there will be quite a few "How to" videos made myself included. I will add your question / concern to the list.
Is the Base 3 app designed to where new ideas can be added on down the future (leaving room for new innovations without having to build a new design to accommodate it)

Will this be compatible with older forms of remots so no one has to do any sort of wiring modifications just to get get their older remotes to work with this new system
The Cab1L and Cab2 should connect just fine. There are some updates for Cab2 though.

Good morning today's Mets 12th 2024 this is my first time seeing your station basically I just want to say is that I just recently ordered the cab base 3 have not received it yet and I know it's going to be a lot that I have to learn about it because I have about 15 starter sets so I know right now I'm going to have to start watering sets then run by the base 3

Marty I am new so bear with me on my question. Does the base 3 require a separate power transformer to run the trains for my 18x20 single oval track?
You still need to power the trains from a separate transformer. The Base3 is only supplying the control signals to the trains and other control components.
Could you help in steering me in the right direction for a power transformer to start out with to operate these new vision line,legacy type locomotives. Thank you for the response. I will be putting in my preorder soon as I find out more. I presently operate 18x20 oval single track conventional, hoping to expand to 60’.
The MTH Z4000 and Lionel ZWL are good choices but the ZWL is $$$$. You could also just go with a Lionel 180w brick and a Legacy Powermaster ( a Powermaster will allow running of conventional trains with the 180 brick). The OGR Forum would be a great place to ask this question. I have a ZWL but it's 5 years old and I bought it second hand. As I said good transformer but a lot of $$$$. Since you are planning to expand you are better off getting more power to start. @@Workclasshero

@MartyE I disagree, this is the right place to discuss what many of us perceive as an overpriced hobby. Dave is a CTO who is trying to sell us a product. He likely doesn't want to discuss it, but he is a member of the C-level leadership of Lionel.
I think it's part of the job of a CTO to justify why his company charges so much money for this equipment and should know what the value proposition is and communicate it to core customers. As a Chief Engineer, I develop hardware and Android/Linux systems for a living and know these guys have to be marking up the cost a lot, especially by way of using dubious production centers out of communist countries.
So far, I have to tell you, I am not impressed with this roll out. The second biggest problem I have with it is the lack of a handheld remote. If they continue to ask me to spend a lot of money and maintain the cost of a smartphone then I just won't buy it, and that's really okay. I'm not losing sleep over it. On the other hand, I would love to continue to support Lionel, maintain a membership, and be an ambassador into the future. Lionel just makes that really hard these days.
Like many in the hobby, I expect to keep these trains and support equipment for the rest of my life and pass them down to children and grandchildren. I was fortunate enough to receive postwar gear that was partially responsible for bringing me into the hobby. I'd appreciate knowing that if I was to invest in Lionel that I could pass something along that is going to work 40 years from now. I know my 1940's gear will still be running and easily serviceable long after I am gone. I'm not so sure I could say the same thing about this system and that bothers me a little. Hopefully I am wrong.
Anyway, I know this post isn't as peppy and optimistic as I'd like it to be, but that's what's really on my mind.

@@jblackacre2325 I will say it again, this is not the event for discussing Lionel's pricing. This event is strictly for a technical discussion on how Base3 and Cab3 app work. It is not a marketing discussion. I'm sorry if you disagree but if you really want to discuss marketing that needs to be brought up with others within Lionel or in a different event. I have no problem discussing those aspects if that was the subject matter but it is not.
