AMAZING First Day in Chengdu, China 🇨🇳 (BETTER THAN EUROPE?)

- As we travel further on our trip around China, we arrive in Chengdu, the capital of southwestern China's Sichuan province. Also home to the famous Chengdu Research Base of Giant Pandas. We dive straight into exploring what the city has to offer. We show you what $75 a night will get you at the Ji Hotel in Chengdu Taikoo Li Center and go straight out to try spicy Sichuan food. We start by trying Lamb and beef kebabs and explore the local market for souvenirs. While strolling around Chunxi Road Pedestrian Street, we stumble across China's first Louis Vuitton restaurant, housed in the century-old heritage site of Guangdong Hall. Nearby we try the famous spicy Sichuan ice cream and fresh cold street noodles before heading for a walk along City Park and the Jin River to Chengdu's TV and Radio Tower. Jack gets his first Chinese Street shave and we share a bottle of wine along the river while experiencing the traditional Chengdu ear cleaning. We head back to the city to try China's spiciest dish La Zi Ji (Sichuan Mala Chicken, 辣子鸡)
💻Stay where we stayed!

Welcome to a middleeast city of China ,Nanchang,Jiangxi province.
it is awesome you can communicate in Chinese
Thank you! I had a few hours worth of lessons before I went on the trip and learnt the rest on the way! I hope one day to learn a little more!

We'll try and get the next video out on Tuesday! It's a good one so worth waiting for!
Can't bloody wait to eat some proper Chinese food mate looks pure class love it 🇨🇳
biden said china is xenophobic.. you believe him ?lol
It is UNREAL, if you want to see REAL Sichuan food, the next video is the one! 🌶️
@@JackAynsleyTravel I wanna see fake food actually mate do they sell it there?
Chengdu is a world class city, no doubt. Easily one of the best in the entire world. There's so many first class Chinese cities from Beijing, Shanghai, Chongqing, Hong Kong, Macao, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Suzhou, Nanjing, and Hangzhou just to name a few.
I want to visit them all! We've loved our time in China so far! Which one is your favourite? 😊
@@JackAynsleyTravel I like the Chengdu video because you finally found the authentic fried rice with soy sauce, which is also the favorite fried rice in China
@@JackAynsleyTravel please look into Pinyao, Shanxi. It’s essentially an ancient town within a walled fortress.
@@JackAynsleyTravel Actually, the mega cities are all similar, with some of the smaller ones retaining more of the Chinese culture and style and making life easy. If you like tea, food, history and nature, I highly recommend Anhui Province. Hope you guys enjoy your journey in China.
@@JackAynsleyTravel U guys defo need to visit my hometown Xi'an, we r one of the four ancient cities in the globe, and a foodie's capital as well. We've got over 3000 yrs of history, DO not MISS it!
What I love about China is beauty and everything is clean and tidy. Its my No 1 country to visit
Props for making the effort to learn Chinese, it really does go a long way.
Thank you, it really does help and I only took a few lessons!
Your Chinese is great! For most Chinese people, they do not speak English, so many travel bloggers come to China and find communication difficult. However, speaking Chinese will increase Chinese people's favor towards you.
Thank you, it is very far from great but I am always learning and trying to improve! Hopefully people see that through our videos! ❤️
And you should have an instant translator tool handy, or install a similar app.
Some old Chinese people can't speak English. And although I learned English since I'm 9 years old, but I still have not too many chance to use it.
But it's okay. If you can be patient to communicate, the young guys will slowly pick up their English. Or someone around you will help.
Simple Chinese is enough. Use translate apps
As a native of Chengdu, I really enjoy your videos. The video you shot is excellent, and I hope to see your excellent works all the time. Welcome to visit and live in Chengdu again!❤
Great video and nice vibes from the locals.
You are the only one traveler who can explore China in a good way Nd with a positivity ❤❤

You cannot even buy a bottle of water for £1 in the UK, but you can buy such great food in Chengdu. LOL
I agree Kevin! China is so much more affordable than I thought it would be! Although I wouldn’t like to see the prices of that Louis Vuitton restaurant 🤣
You can buy a bottle for 70p from the corner shop and 24 for two pounds but not in the restaurant
@JackAynsleyTravel 哥们,吃了吗(chi le ma)不适合南方人和城市年轻人。要不很尴尬😅。你在北京胡同,和北方的农村可能适合,这个问候语是比较古老的😊

You are so smart that you have learned Chinese and dialects from all over the world. I like your talent.
Many things in Sichuan are very spicy, but they have a dessert to relieve the spiciness: bingfen (which is sold where you buy cold noodles, and various fruits are its ingredients). You must try it, it is very refreshing.
Thank you very much! I love learning new languages! Paige always says this about the desserts haha!

Ah man thank you so much! Comments like this make our day honestly! ❤️
This channel has some good vibes.
Nice vlog jack thanku making this video ❤
Glad you liked it
So much fun to watch this video, the way how you describe about food, talking to people and your reactions while experiencing new things just so funny (in a good way). Love it. BTW, Chinese people don't usually greet each other with 你好,吃了吗/hello, have you eaten. We just greet with 你好/hello, or just greet with 吃过了吗/吃了吗/have you eaten. Normally at about meal time people will ask 吃过了吗 as a way to greet, if not nearby meal time, chinese don't greet that way either.
Thank you very much! We tried so many new foods in this video, and we love trying new things! I will remember that for next time, thank you! I love learning more about the Chinese language!
In the past, China was very poor, and it was a luxury for people to have a full meal, so they would use "Have you eaten?" to wish people a good life. But now that people are well-off and having enough food is no longer a problem, this way of greeting has been gradually abandoned.
@@JackAynsleyTravel I went to college in Chengdu. I think "Have you eaten?" is often used by people in northern China to say hello, but people in Chengdu don't say hello like this.
@@JackAynsleyTravel You were definitely deceived by the shaver. I’m sure he just wanted to ask you for 3rmb, but when you said 30rmb, he changed his mind and said 30rmb.
@@qiuloveye The price tag on the BBQ says 15, and of course it should be 30 for two skewers

Great video! Love it
Thank you very much! Hopefully you like the next videos too!
Very impressive about your kindness and politeness, hope you have a nice trip.😊😊🎉🎉
I don't think there is anything impressive about out kindness or politeness, it is how everyone should be! But thank you very much for thinking this ❤️
@@JackAynsleyTravel I agree that everyone should be polite and kind but unfortunately it’s not easy to find people like that. Not many people are like you. Big love to you. Also, 1:02:50 there’s nothing embarrassing when learning new cultures and customs. You and your wife are doing a great job! One last thing is, the chopstick tips are likely made out of bamboo which is a kind of grass and grows very quickly. Very sustainable.

You’re so cute. I feel happy when I watch your videos ,thanks ❤
Paige, I love your smile on your face, so warm. Your smile already tells how lovely this city is.
“Chi le Ma” is for people in North China, especially for people in Beijing.
Most south China people will not say hello in this way.
Ahh I had just come from Beijing so I didn’t know! What would you recommend I say instead? I’m always open to learning!
@@JackAynsleyTravel”Ni Hao” is universal. For Sichuan dialect, “ Bar Shi” means taste good, it’s more impressive than saying “ Hao Chi” locally. Have fun in Sichuan mate.
@@JackAynsleyTravel “Ni hao” is ok.☺
@@JackAynsleyTravel "Chi le ma" means "Eaten (Had breakfast/lunch/dinner) yet?". This phrase has once been the most straightforward salutation to people in ancient difficult times when getting oneself and his/her family well fed was the most important and sometimes challenging goal of life and also a significant symbol of well-being for most people. As the chinese society develops, having three decent meals everyday is no longer a top priority of people's concern. In fact, using this phrase to greet people of a city lifestyle nowadays would probably bring a confusion more and more frequently, especially when it is not close to the meal hours. 😁
Some areas in the south also say the chi le ma. It's mainly when you meet friends, relatives, or neighbors on the street, and it's rarely said to strangers,ni hao is okay.
Hi Jack. can't believe your hotel is right across the street from my house, the first thing I see when I open the video the tall building across the street is my house, it makes me miss Chengdu so much! The restaurant where you guys had the spicy chicken is very authentic Sichuan food, we often go there as a family, that waitress lady was just trying to help you share the rice, no need to feel embarrassed. Looking forward to your new work, already following!
Again, really enjoy watching your video. It’s impressive you could tell the difference between ’Haochi’ and ‘Haoci’ by just observing how local people pronounce (they are actually the same word ‘yummy’ but the second one is in Sichuan accent). Such a talented Chinese learner! 😄
You guys gone through so many things in just a half day, love it, many places you pass through will start open and fill with peoples after late afternoon or early evening, you probably will surprised those people came out of nowhere, but that is the real life of Chengdu People, they love the night life, after work go out to restaurants, shopping, play et al till midnight, every day.
People like me who want to travel around the world ' but do only in dreams' can fulfil their desire through your videos a little bit.
Ah man this comment warms my heart honestly. I am so happy to hear this thank you. It really does motivate us to keep creating great videos for people like you, I have good faith you will also get to travel the world one day. ❤️
@@JackAynsleyTravel Thank you Jack i hope for the best..Stay safe n happy, love you both.💕

I am a Chinese audience, nice to meet you Jack. I have loved watching Premier League matches since I was young. I am a fan of Manchester United's 92 Golden Generation, and I like Ferguson, Beckham, Giggs, and Scholes. They have accompanied me as I grew up. The jersey you wear is Newcastle, right?🤣
I have already followed you and I really like your videos. They are friendly and approachable. It's the first time I've seen a travel blogger who is so brave in exploring. You have done many things that local Chinese people wouldn't do, such as spicy pepper ice cream, haha.
However, I noticed that your video views in China have been low. I think UA-cam has limited the spread of your content. Whenever the video content involves China, things will turn out like this. Many social media platforms do not want objective content about China to be spread. But it's great to see you as friendly travelers. I hope you have a good time in China and look forward to more content from you
Thank you very much! I’m glad you have enjoyed the videos, hopefully they get shared out a little bit more and more people can enjoy the video too!
