  • In this week's Bearded Breakdown we quickly talk about the DW 6000 series ultralight hardware. This hardware which has smaller diameter steel tubing and aluminum bases cuts down on the weight of your gear and it's footprint. I was able to put my hands on this hardware recently and was pleasantly surprised with how strong and sturdy it was. The models include a straight stand, a boom stand, a hi hat stand and a snare stand. The bases seem very sturdy and able to handle larger cymbals without tipping over especially considering how small they are. The tilters on the cymbals stand lock in place securely. The hi hat stand feels able to take the weight of a heavy footed player and the snare stand holds the snare in place securely. All in all I feel like this is a great option for anyone looking to cut down their hardware weight or footprint and a bonus they are good looking stands as well. The available pack comes with 2 straight stands, a snare stand, hi hat stand and a bag to carry it all in. The prices I have seen range from $329.00 - $349.00. I've had these straight cymbal stands for about a year now, and they are fantastic! I'd really like the hi-hat, but I haven't been able to find one to try out, so what was your impression of it? Thanks in advance!

I thought it was pretty sturdy considering how lightweight it was. The spring action felt good and definitely would pack up nicely.

Pretty cool, that snare stand looks really old school. I might check it out :D

Bearded Drums Yea, it’s DW, quality is their second name haha :D I wanted to get a vintage stand for my snare but I think that this one will be a better option. Looks cool and it’s definitely a better quality product.

Great video dude ! Well, i used to think the same : strong, won't move etc. but after using them for a year i must say that for my home set i changed for the regular, much more stable regular 6000 (flat but not UL). Don't get me wrong the UL are fantastic if you gig (small jazzy gig, you really can't go hard on those) from time to time or need like an extra stand for a quick studio session (for a china or an auxiliary crash. Again, they won't resist some high intensity bashing), that's how i use them. I play my cymbals relatively high and you can be sure my 24 Big Apple will just take the stand away at the first swing. To sum up : beautiful and well made (i mean, it's DW) but it really isn't for everyone. Hope it helps :)

Thanks so much for your input. Your opinion is the one that is needed in the comment section because you have been using them for a year. This is great because anyone watching this video has several different opinions to go off of if they are looking to purchase these 👊💯

I have been using them for almost a year too and in my case I don't feel any need of changing nearly soon. I play at rock and blues gigs, open stages and venues without any mics on the drums, so eventually I have to play loud and heavy on the cymbals and so far, they are holding up very well. One of the stands has to deal with a 22" crash/ride cymbal, just for the record.
I'm totally happy with them. In fact I'm thinking about getting a second hole set just to use at home. My girlfriend was very skeptical when I ordered it, since she doesn't often see any of my purchases as a good investment to my work, instead of a new curtain to our apartment, but even she digged those! So, it proves that not only you are going to be satisfied, but also your wives!

Always a great sign of a product when your Wife/girlfriend approves 👊💯

Hi, thanks for the video. How is the 6000 bass pedal? Will it allow me to play those 16th notes as nicely as the 9000 pedal?

Thanks for commenting. Although I do feel the 6000 series is of good quality I don’t know if I could go as far as to say it would be able to compete with the 9000 pedal. I have previously owned a 9000 and it was one of the smoothest and well built pedals I’ve played. The 9000, Tama Iron Cobra and Pearl Eliminator are what I consider the Cadillacs of bass pedals and it would be hard for a lower priced pedal to compete.

Thanks, you have answered my question. I have a 9000 pedal, snare, and hi hat stand. I already got tired of carrying them. Lol heavy!

I can totally understand that! Carrying around the heavy duty top of the line stuff can get old especially when weight is an issue. That being said the only thing I just can’t compromise on is my kick pedal. I could see goin for a lightweight hi hat stand and there are plenty of good ones but just not my kick pedal. Since you have the 9000, you have a great piece of gear there and I would suggest sticking with that one.

I appreciate your input. I think I will stick to the 9000 pedal for sure. You rock!

They do look great, I’ve just never been able to put my hands on them. That’s mainly why I gave these a mention, I was able to actually mess around with them. I am a Pearl man though so I’m sure it lives up to their reputation 👊💯

less weight is equal to less stability?
