Bless Elvis always having to defend himself never heard about that fight heard one dj fontana spoke about an the famous gas station one brilliant history thank you
Thank you for sharing with us Elvis fans. I would like to have seen it. Elvis really was taking care of business. Very interesting to find out. A fan of Elvis for life. Long live Elvis!
Way Cool Trey! This is AMAZING to say the least that the structure and surrounding structures still stand till this day...Gives Elvis Fans Great Perspective of the Incident at that Location! - Thanks Bro!
That guy who had the fight with Elvis, Elvis would of knocked him out) taking care of business) just to think what a tale the guy would tell when Elvis was famous. Thanks Trey much appreciated for sharing.
Love this video- thank you! I really appreciate how you verify your information and then proceed to the actual site and show all different angles. Awesome!
Great video and cool Elvis story that we would never know with out your investigative skills! I can just picture a handsome young Elvis taking care of business . Thank you!
Never heard this story. A friend of mine took Elvis to a dinner after a show here in Fort Myers back in 55. Seems like thats what he liked to do after his shows. The gas station fight is about the only one talked about but I imagine he had to stand up for himself a few times back in those days. Sideburns and jealousy pissed alot if guys off back then when men were men. Great vlog Trey 👍🏻😎
Who would be the one person to dislike your video? Just goes to show you to ignore the trolls. I like your videos and your passion of Elvis. If anyone goes to Graceland and doesn't have chills. I'd be shocked.
We have one guy that hates on us every chance he gets, I’m sure he has a lot of fake accounts and dislikes with all his UA-cam accounts.. pathetic people in the world.. let me tell you
. .he had it ever since he was a child in Tupelo, seeing how people had shamed the poor black community there and then and I do believe that he felt compelled to mediate for them. .that spirit within him to serve even if it meant getting in a tangle never left him, but for sure he would not allow himself to be the butt of someone’s ignorant ways and always fought back. ..he was a solitary priceless gem ..✨thanks Trey, love them hidden pearls
When I lived there in the late 70’s and 80’s that place was called “Eat a Bite”. Great Catfish and Hush Puppies! One day a week they had Frog legs AYCE
The way I understand it is that Elvis was a good fighter even before he learned Karate. His friends said that he could have been a professional fighter if he had not been concerned about having his face changed.
Scotty and DJ related a story to George Klein about some guy coming into a diner and calling Elvis out. Elvis tried to diffuse the situation, but the guy wasn't having it. According to DJ Fontana, Bill and DJ were egging Elvis on a bit, who was getting madder with the guy because his girl kept a picture of Elvis. The guy allegedly goes to swing, Scotty jumped on the guy's back, but got knocked down and when Elvis saw that, he went to town.
Morgan and Linsey 5 and dime was the store where the gravel was ,a sporting goods store was on the west side of Arlises cafe ,the Swan was western Auto in the 60 ,a after hours bar in the 70 ,and was remodeled into a house in the 2000 s ,and I all ways heard from my two oldest brothers that was there that night , according to there story that the fight started over Elvis flirting with the guy’s girlfriend, and yes I have lived in Bastrop for 66 years ,don’t know everything that went on here but this is a small town ,and nothing stays secret in a small town, and very little is told the way it really happened either 😂🤭
Elvis went from playing elementary school gyms to selling out Madison Square Garden in NYC 4 times!! As for the cafe owner not liking his sideburns. I don't buy it. I'm willing to bet it was over his style of music.
Elvis was a scrapper and a fighter. I can see him duking it out with that guy. Had to teach him not to make fun of his side burns. That's right they took care of business themselves back than. I'm sure they made up in the end.
My father immigrated to Rockford IL at 18 years old in 1957 from Sweden. Rockford settled by the Swedes East Side of the Rock River and Italians on the West side of the river. They’d meet in the middle of the Jefferson Street bridge and have fist fights on Saturday nights. Fair fights, no weapons. My how times have changed. Now a few murders per month in same general area.
Thanks again Trey --great video

Would like to interview that friend and capture the story
Hi Trey! Great video! Never new about this story. It reminds me of a scene from 'Loving You', when Elvis sings 'Mean Woman Blues'
Probably where that scene came from

Nice! Now you know what E was doing when you made your grand entrance into this world!
I remember when he got it a fight with the Service station attendant in 56
JG you must have been a kid. What impression did the fight give you when you heard about it?
Thanks Trey! So many little towns in Louisiana look just like Bastrop. Do you know if Elvis ever made it down to Bogalusa, LA?
I don’t think so, would have to look into it

When I lived there in the late 70’s and 80’s that place was called “Eat a Bite”. Great Catfish and Hush Puppies! One day a week they had Frog legs AYCE

That Duke guy is funny I looked him up
E sure could handle himself. Cheers Trey TBC
Elvis literally had to fight his way to the top.
If your looking for trouble you came to the right place.!
Good camera work. Wish you would help the spa guy with some lessons on panning.

Scotty and DJ says that Elvis could hit you 10 times before you knew it
Really? That’s interesting Roy. Guys back then lived on fighting.. I know my grandad did!
Alot of dudes were jealous of Elvis because their Girlriends were looking at him lustily
That could cause a few fights

It’s an amazing ride to the top of the music world for sure.. and it could also be the guys girl liked Elvis and that upset the guy..
Elvis was a scrapper and a fighter. I can see him duking it out with that guy. Had to teach him not to make fun of his side burns. That's right they took care of business themselves back than. I'm sure they made up in the end.
I can see it happening in that alley way! He tcb in a flash that night
being a christian i thought elvis would have turned the other cheek .
Ilovethatguyiovehimisagreatsingernow
I spent 12 years of my life in this town. How did I never know this? BTW..it is pronounced “Bass-Trupp” but say it fast Basstrupp! NOT BASS TROP!
Who won the fight?
Not sure of the outcome so can only imagine it.. EP won

So do we know who actually won the fight? My money"s on Elvis, of course, but maybe the other guy was a Mike Tyson type.
No we don’t but I heard Elvis was aggressive back then and would fight
Wellmeigethimtowalkawayfromitnotnotnicetofightwithhimbarbara
I bet bassdrop loseiana is a miserable place
It’s a small country town
I lived there bout 10 years
