Detailed steps for isolating DNA from bananas:
    Materials Needed:
    - Ripe bananas
    - Liquid detergent
    - Salt (table salt or kosher salt)
    - Isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol)
    - Water
    - Ziplock bags or plastic sandwich bags
    - Coffee filter or cheesecloth
    - Funnel
    - Test tubes or small containers
    - Pipettes or droppers
    - Ice
    - Blender or food processor
    - Centrifuge (optional)
    - Ethanol (optional)
    Steps:
    1. *Preparation:*
    - Peel 2-3 ripe bananas and cut them into small pieces.
    - Place the banana pieces in a Ziplock bag and seal it.
    - Squeeze and mash the bananas inside the bag until they turn into a smooth pulp.
    - Measure out about 1/4 cup of the banana pulp and place it in a blender or food processor.
    2. *Creating a Banana Mixture:*
    - Add 1/2 teaspoon of salt and 1 teaspoon of liquid detergent to the blender.
    - Blend the mixture until it becomes smooth. This will break down the cell walls and release the DNA into the solution.
    - Add about 1/2 cup of water to the blender and blend for a few more seconds.
    3. *Filtering the Mixture:*
    - Place a funnel on top of a test tube or small container.
    - Line the funnel with a coffee filter or cheesecloth.
    - Pour the banana mixture through the funnel to filter out the solid particles and collect the liquid filtrate (containing DNA) in the test tube.
    4. *Precipitating the DNA:*
    - Chill a small amount of isopropyl alcohol in a container with ice.
    - Carefully pour the banana filtrate into a test tube, leaving some space at the top.
    - Slowly layer the chilled isopropyl alcohol on top of the banana filtrate. You should see the DNA precipitate at the interface between the two layers.
    5. *Collecting the DNA:*
    - Gently insert a pipette or dropper into the test tube and carefully extract the DNA strands. It will look like a white, stringy mass.
    - Transfer the extracted DNA into a small container filled with water. This will help remove excess salt and detergent.
    6. *Observing and Storing the DNA:*
    - You can observe the collected DNA using a magnifying glass or microscope.
    - If desired, you can rinse the DNA with ethanol to remove any remaining impurities.
    - The isolated DNA can be stored in a small container filled with water in the refrigerator.
Remember, this is a basic protocol for DNA isolation from bananas and can vary based on the specific experiment and lab setup. It's important to follow proper safety and disposal guidelines when working with chemicals and biological materials.
