  • Tile Titan 2 - block 2 in Kate Quinn’s Tile Titan’s series. I am working on a plan for 12 design. They will likely come out on the 4th Sunday of the month as time permits with my travel schedule.
    Initial Markings:
All design will be based on the 8 PT crosshairs as the foundation. The center reference square is an on point square made with the flat of the square 3.5” from the center. (See the video for more explanation of this.)
    Step 1:
2” Center circle. Not connected to anything so just stitch it and cut threads.
    Step 2:
3” x 1.5” Simple Oval aligned with the inner oval bottom cutout on the center and sewing Crosshair line to Crosshair line.
    Step 3:
Echo the oval from step 2 using the inner oval push up 1/4” beyond the step 2 oval. You can measure that with the spacing gauge of estimate if desired. Use the Crosshair again as the stop point in between.
    Step 4:
Template to start and stop positions with the stitching line disks. See video for more info here. Stitch the straight line with SR3x8 and put the inner section of the 2” x 4” Oval on the diagonal Crosshair lines to stitch the inner oval halves on the square.
    Step 5:
Echo the lines from step 4 with the .75” echo ring. See the video for more information.
    Step 6:
Curve border flow is the Back to Back 3-2 on the tall side. I will also then echo it on the inside.
    Step 7:
Add the 3.5" Grand Leafs to the inside corners of the square and the 5.5” Grand Leaf to the inside of the oval and echo arches.
    Step 8:
Add the 3.5” Grand leaf to the corners and add double Grand Leafs to the NSEW sections of the design again using the Grand Leaf. I plan to use a larger size than I showed in the video, either the 7.5” or the 9.5” whichever fits better.
    Thanks for watching!

Dear Kate, Thank you for another terrific video for us. I am unfortunate not understanding the size and placement of the 3 1/2" markings that are used to connect the corners of the first design square. Are the 3 1/2" marks placed on the north, south, east, and west (cross lines) made with the cross hair ruler or should they be on the diagonal lines? Also, what is the size of the first design square? 5" square? I love this design, I am just having a brain block understanding how to get things started.
Thank you for all you do for us,
    Marcia Newcomb

The flat side of the square is 3.5” away from the center. Draw that straight line from Crosshair line to Crosshair line. I did this because the square measured size is some weird number like 7.2367”

What machine do you have? Some require you to move the needle to
Center using the left right shift. My Babylock is like that.

If you adjust your needle position make sure you do not use your straight stitch plate.

@@katequinnoffabquilts my machine is a Janome professional memory craft 6600.
I'm wondering if I have the right size food for this machine. I'm using a high shank should it be a low shank.
How do I measure for right shank? I've forgotten that I was told. Thanks Kate
