On paper, the 2023 Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon are similar trucks, but the Canyon gets the brand's high-output 2.7-liter turbocharged four-cylinder as standard fare (it's an option on the Colorado). So...should you spend the $8,000 it takes to get the high-output engine in the higher-trimmed Colorado (or just spring for the Canyon)? Andre finds out in this head-to-head drag race!

      Once you drive a vehicle with adaptive cruise control, cruise control will seem like relic technology. Have it in Canyon Denali. Set the speed to highest you are willing to go, set distance u want between u and any vehicle in front of u, and then let it do its thing. Even comes to full stop then seat vibrates when time to move. Touch has and u are back in action. Really useful tech.

    HP tells you the tractive effort one engine can generate at a given speed vs another. An engine with higher HP will be able to put more force to the pavement at any speed than an engine with less HP, factoring in gearing.
    This is why 8/9/10 speed transmissions are great. They let the engine operate at or very near the HP peak regardless of speed. A 400hp engine with a 10 speed is more likely to end up at peak HP rpm and put more force to the pavement than a 400 hp engine with a 4 speed.

    • @jeffs2809
      @jeffs2809 Рік тому

      I think you may be mixing up hp & torque. Generally speaking the hp peak of an engine is very high in its rpm range while peak torque is usually much lower, more so with many of the more recent small turbo gas engines. The idea of the multi speed transmission should be to keep the engine operating near the torque peak. I guess to put it more appropriately, cruising at peak torque and being able to access peak hp on demand( downshifting), but you wouldn’t want peak hp at all times or you’d be at high rpm’s at all times. The 8/9/10 spd transmissions (with 2 or 3 overdrives) your talking about are intended for fuel economy.

    I’ve never liked how we measure torque and hp. High torque is just having hp at a lower rpm. If we just looked at hp over the rpm range then torque becomes meaningless. This is why a slightly lower hp turbo is usually faster than na engine with more hp. The turbo has more hp over the bottom 3/4 of the rpm range.

    It hurts my heart when I see how many of those four cylinder engines are making their way into Camaros and full-size Silverados 😂. I'm not as disappointed with the idea of it in a Colorado or Canyon, although the baby Duramax would be more ideal.

    There’s no replacement for displacement, it’s like guys that buy the 4cyl Silverados

    Only watched the first min but running the truck against the car hurts the next race as heat soak is a thing in racing.
    After watching not sure it would have made much of a difference

    Yes, tire size and tire style should have been the same on both trucks. Also making sure gear ratio was the same.

      @IVloses yes but the canyon had 1 inch smaller tires IIRC which changes the final drive ratio

    Honestly not impressed by these times... You're telling me that based on the video you guys posted a couple months back. On this exact same Track a Ford Ranger 2.3 ran a 16.3 @ 88mph... Ranger has 270hp and 310tq and these Chevys with 310hp 400+ tq are slower?

    the torque is only 10% more.....I guess with the MT's the net effect could be a bit more realistically? I'd love the extra 40 ft/lbs Torque on my new Trail Boss but it's just not worth the cost. $150 CDN they'd have every Turbo-Plus engine owner do it in a heartbeat :) Howz your MPG doing now Andre?

    The new Colorado and GMC look great for the next generation BUT!!.. I am not a fan of 4 cylinder Turbo engines..GM needs stick with a newer version the V6 with more HP and torque Instead of putting a Turbo on a small engine feels like They are being cheap About it
