    In this video, the Trail Boss is the better trim to get even though the Z71 has a nicer interior (in my opinion!). The Z71 is the City/Tradeperson truck while the Trail Boss is the true 4x4 offroader! Looks like they are quite differentiated in terms of target market! The Z71 is the urban trades truck that can tow a boat to the local lake while the Trail Boss is the more hard-core ranch-hand's vehicle and weekend warrior off-road camping/fishing/hunting vehicle!

I wish GM offered their off road packages like Ford where you can get an upgraded suspension on different models and not be locked into a specific interior etc. BUT, maybe that's why Ford is having a more difficult time building vehicles. This year they are writing off billions on recalls. I'm really put off on the Ford brand these days. And overseas the new global ranger is off to a very rocky start with many issues. Its so bad that Ford voluntarily bought back several trucks because the dealers could not sort out the problems. Now I'm hearing good things about GM's 2.7 and the revised 8 speed. Its doing well on the silverado. Also moral is very high with allot of pride at the Wentzville plant in Missouri where the Colorado is made. I know GM has had allot of issues in the past but I think this is going to be a class leading truck. They spent allot of money developing it. Its seems very well sorted.

    I currently drive a 19 Colorado long bed diesel 4x4 with 32" tires and an EIbach leveling kit. Other than a few electronic ghosts in the infotainment system it's been a great truck that I've gotten over 30 MPG highway on frequently, though not very often since the lift, tires and chin spoilerectomy. It's been great for the 114,000 miles I've driven it and it appears that replacing it will be impossible.
    I'd go Colorado trail boss but even my 5'6" self would have to sleep diagonally inside a shell on one of these trucks and GM said in the previous generation that a slide in camper wasn't recommended and could result in frame damage which wouldn't be covered under warranty. This truck is more of a highway legal UTV than a truck, despite the rated payload which would allow a lightweight camper page 379 of the manual for my 2019 said no and given GM said this even on the 1500 I see no change coming.
    With no one offering a diesel in the mid size segment and most not offering a long bed I'm leaning 1500 Silverado diesel Trail Boss. GM doesn't recommend a slide in camper due to risk of frame damage not covered under warranty but even the short bed only trail boss has enough width to sleep more comfortably than a midsize short bed and offers similar fuel economy with far greater utilitarian capacities.
    I'd go with the Frontier to avoid the heat generating turbocharger that costs nearly as much as a short block to replace but their off road package is a joke, it's only available on the short bed and offers v8 like fuel economy.
    Maybe Ford will do something good with the ranger but it's unlikely to be anything but short bed crew cab and a turbo 4 unless I want to pay up for the Ranger Raptor( if it gets here and the dealers don't "MARKET ADJUST" it to F150 tremor MSRP, even without the "adjustment" it costs more than the Custom Trail boss diesel Silverado.
    Tacoma? Never liked the omnipresent Taco and with production moving out of the U.S. I'm not considering it.
    My 2019 Colorado may be my last new truck.

      The dealership near me has been selling the 2.7 in the fullsize for over 4 years now. So far they haven't had any come back with problems related to that engine. Even one of the customers is hard on their truck and it still runs fine. Take this with a grain of salt though, it's a small sample size but encouraging

    • @elche1976
      @elche1976 Рік тому

      @Mototitan87 so let me get this straight... the Trail Boss starts at 38.5k and the GMC AT4 starts at 45.4k.... and the LED lights are the deal breaker making you pay the extra 7k before any add-ons are selected? 🤔 you do realize the LED lights can be added on for around $200 aftermarket to avoid that 7k uptick in price. And you're forced into the Onstar subscription.

    You guys failed to mention one of the biggest differences between these trucks.. which is the track width. The trail boss is wider than the Z71. And how much additional front wheel travel is available with the wider setup?

    I've always found the Z71 trim on the Colorado weird. It's supposed to be an off road package yet it is the top trim(excluding the ZR2). If anything they should have called it the RST or LTZ to help standardize their language and give you the option to have the Z71 package to get the more off road features the package is known for. Chevrolet's trims are pretty confusing as hell outside of their sport car line ups.

    Other than the 4Runner (5th gen), all these new trucks seem “fragile.” And by that I mean, they may be nice for the first 5 years or so, but then all the digital, screen, start stop, direct injected engines, etc. will start to cause issues that either aren’t worth fixing or just break the car/truck to the point of having to purchase a new one as most people seem to treat vehicles as “technology” such as their phones they replace every year or two.
