Can't believe I saw this for free
Nothing is free.
The perfect comment, that is exactly how I feel.
Exactly!! :)
Yea, our views is the price.
this should be free knowledge should be shared
Mind Blowing Bjork is up there with Prince when it comes to musical creativity on any level
She's still down here.
@@RedPee2000thats not what they meant
Hunter would be beautiful when deconstructed, too
the strings and beats in that song are incredible. i'm still listening to homogenic regularly after over 20 years
All of her songs basically.
It would be like a thousand times harder
I’d click on that video so fast
@@dayglowjoe me too. top on my spotify list
and she did that in 1993 ... this is amazing
Yeah, imagine that. In 993, when electricity was scarce, and a horse pulled wooden wheels chariots were a mean of transportation.
she didnt produce it..
@@adamdavison95 she's the artist performing in it. She's the artist that was interested in seeing this relatively experimental (at the time) way of apply EDM elements to a song that can bomb.
I'm not denying the importance of the producer but don't shit on the artist's will to create, specifically, in the early 90's. It was much different.
Also, calm down, Mary. Let a fan be a fan.
@@diethylamid actually in 993 electricity wasn't yet invented. it was popularized in the 1880's.
Also in 1993, electronic music wasn't as popular, experimenting and releasing a track with so many layers attached to your name is a ballsy move.
Also, calm down, Sharon.
Let people enjoy things.
@@DustSeeker163 bjork is no doubt a visionary but its a shame producers are so overlooked. a voice is but one instrument whilst the a producer is tasked with combining many elements to form the basis of the track and to be honest as someone who has been listening to her for a while now whilst assuming she ALSO produced all of her songs, I can't help but feel a little disappointed
please deconstruct running up that hill, the classical kate bush song
José Victor Oliveira second that!
Third that.
Fourth that, or Breathe if you fancy something a bit more interesting
Good song
Yes yes yes!!!
Seen björk. Instant click
me as well.

"saw". And YES!🇨🇦
You haven't. Instant lies.
It would be cool if you did a deconstruct of 'Hidden Place'. The way that song builds in its use of production is magical.
OMG YESSS
Wow yes
yes
It's such a masterpiece! It amazes me every time I listen to it.
can i hide there too??
Björk truly is one of the greatest artists to ever live. She is a genuis. Love her ♥︎
ok.So where would then Bach ,Debussy or Stravinsky be?To name a few.Miles Davies ,Prince and Bowie?Etc.Bjork is nothing.Just a shadow for a generation that is clueless about music. And can only consume maximum 3-4 minutes simple structures. That would be the contemporary primitivism. No big deal. What goes up will eventually go down.Culture included. This is a low moment.Deconstructive .
X-Japan is the best.
@@adrianfundescu5407 In their day, Bach, Debussy, and Stravinsky were equivalent to today's Brittney Spears and Taylor Swift. Classical music was just pop back then. Bjork is definitely up there with the greats of this era along with Miles Davis, Prince, Bowie, etc.
@@SyncrisisVideos Absolutely wrong. Don't you dare to compare reputed COMPOSERS with contemporary pop artists. The level of complexity in their compositions, the hability to evoke feelings through melodies and harmonies without the assistance of any technology (comparing to autotune, quantization, and other digital softwares that makes music sound less natural) is way ahead of even todays musicians minds. And most importantly, most of them composed all their repertory alone, without the help of anyone. That's right. Bach, Debussy, Mozart, Tchaikovski and many others had extreme knowledge about every freaking instrument from the orchestra, and not forget to mention their fluency in advanced music theory.
Also, back in 18th century, only important and rich people could appreciate to a concert, so orchestra wasn't popular for the masses. Folk and Cabaret music was.
But still, Bjork is a great pop and experimental artists in this era. I love her voice.
@@adrianfundescu5407 Fuck off hahahahahaha
Wow this really makes you appreciate how well constructed the song is and also what a fantastic vocalist Bjork is.
Is this the first breakdown you've ever seen? Maybe you should watch something more suited toward your tastes like Rebecca Black Friday Deconstructed
@@gsweater5544 you ok?
@@gsweater5544 ma’am who hurt you
"fantastic vocalist" really? She may be very brave in using what she's got, but most members of an average church choir have got more potential.
@@uweinhamburg stay mad
This mans knowledge of music history and attention to detail is incredible
i read in an interview of bjork that she received the sample of the song from a friend who brought it from Bollywood.
I can't imagine how anyone can come up with mixing all of these different instruments and tunes together into a song.
Actually the "Music for sho and harp (1986)" is composed by Cort Lippe, is dedicated to Noriko Kazama and performed by Mayumi Miyata on sho and Masumi Nagasawa on harp. Also, Lippe was my electronic composition advisor when I was studying in Japan.
Hi Tanapon - Thanks so much for the information. I will investigate the work of Cort Lippe now!
Ski Oakenfull You're welcome! I'm appreciated on your teaching are handful and hope to see another reconstruction and your music. Cheers!
Thanks for letting us all know!
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaackshulllllllyyyyy
Would love to see a deconstruction of Sade's sound during the 90's and 00's. Can't seem to find anything on it and it would suit this channel so good.

Could we get a FKA Twigs breakdown?!

24:16 I always loved Bjork's gibberish in Venus As A Boy, it seems naked without it.
I believe that’s Icelandic not gibberish.
@@antenna7851 nope it gibberish
@@dhir5560 what's gibberish?
@@mihaelamogildea7690 all the non-English lyrics in this one I think
Hæ hæ I'm icelandic and I'm 99% sure it's gibberish. that other 1% is in case it's just REALLY BADLY pronounced and nonsensical.
Just a friendly FYI
This makes me appreciate Bjork so much more. What an amazing being
Constructing the song from scratch was amazing, and hearing how close the final track was to the original even moreso.
But the most amazing part is realizing how Bjork's "little-extra-something" elevates it further than you could possibly reach even with all that work.
As a fan of Björk, and an admirer of music production, I enjoyed every minute of this video! Chapeau!
Sounds #argento …
best way to put it
Request! Can you do Bjork's "It's Not Up to You"? I think that song shows how much a master she was at melding intricate electric beats with really great orchestral arrangements.
That's one of my favourite Bjork songs. It's absolutely divine.
Her producers made those beats. And pretty much most of the rest. She worked (and works) with the hip beatmakers, producers, songwriters, musicians and sound-designers of that time. Nelle Hooper (Massive Attack/Soul II soul), Howie B, Tricky, 808 State, Bomb The Bass, Mark Bell (LFO) , Matthew Herbert (Herbert) The list is endless. Never asked yourself why some tracks sound like a a Massive Attack-song with Bjork-vocals on top?
@@dosanddonts2919 you're undervaluing the work she did herself when producing Vespertine. She had collaborators adding their touches to the album and assisting with orchestral arrangements (like many artists do). But she made much of the beats herself, sketched out much of the orchestration in this album. Even Matmos had to correct the record when many people assumed they did all of the production for Bjork.
Dosanddonts you keep posting this same comment multiple times on this video and it’s a bit concerning that you are taking this much time in your day to dismiss bjorks musical prowess. there’s a great interview from a few years ago where she addresses exactly what you are accusing her in terms to her beat making in vespertine. she created the bones and foundation of all those tracks and had collaborators add their touches later. people like you are reasons why female artists can’t be taken seriously or feel compelled to defend their abilities constantly. don’t get it twisted, all those intricate micro beats on vespertine were entirely composed by bjork.
F**k off, we can exactly hear those guys signatures all over those tracks. Why have the guys writing credits, if it was all the genius of Bjork? People who merely add their touches dont get writing-credit, it doesnt work that way. You dont know shit about those guys signature-sounds and you dont know anything about music in general .
Glaiza De Castro is also an actress in the Philippines!
What an amazing vocal recreation - props to the singer... Goosebumps
She is a famous actress in Philippines. I'm actually shocked when I saw her in this vid.
Nice enough, but not even close.
Props to the severe autotune being used.
@@hutch5799 What? She is really talented and defientely knows how to sing, and you know almost every artist edits and fixes their voices, even a little bit.
@@santiagozaratea.9756 Mate, no disrespect to the singer (she has a really really nice tone), but that vocal is autotuned to oblivion. It's a production decision, nothing to do with the singer. She actually does some lovely glottal stops that sound natural...my guess is they tried to make them ALL absolutely perfect. Which is a huge mistake in my humble opinion.
How can I learn to make music like that? I came here because I'm a Bjork fan but I'm mesmerized by all the tools this guy uses. It's like playing with toys! it looks so fun!
Not detracting from anyone, the vocals are just amazing. I would drown to sirens in a desert. I didn't realise this had so many sounds, very unique sound too.
One of my favorite Bjork songs. I have heard it about a thousand times. But 19:55 when those solo vocals. Goose bumps. Beautiful. Thank you.
Glaiza De Castro ❤️❤️❤️
What’s the bass sound that you used in this please?
Is it an Ableton sound?
Cheers!
this has got to be the best Deconstruction ever on the channel!
You have no idea how much this song stirs my memory and emotions, and YOU nailed it perfectly with precision of a deconstuction... like an iconic fashion designer, stitch by stich, Bravo!
Wow. Glaiza de castro. 😍
The string and vocals on their own sound amazing. I would love a full track of that.
got recommended this video because i watch music production videos and surprised to see Glaiza de Castro out of nowhere singing a bjork song
One of the best basslines of the 90's, well done!
13:52 this is a special moment
Dude I watched numerous times back to back....I'm dead 🤣🤣🤣
You can so obviously hear Tricky and Talvin Singh in the production, and then Bjørks vocal, tieing it all together. This track is so obviously brilliant. And a great reconstruction, as always!
Morten Agnor you think Tricky had a hand in this?
Ski, you are ''The Master Of Deconstruction''
What ? I'm shocked that you have Glaiza on vocals. Not a big fan of her but I knew her from the television. I'm happy that she's there leading her voice to sing a song from one of my favourite artists of all time. 💝💝💝
What a voice... I think I'm having multiple something caught in both eyes.

This is insane. That you even deconstructed it let alone did a whole video with incredible explanations and history to credit everyone involved.. and then showed everything in the DAW I use. Wow. Fantastic work.
Fascinating breakdown and really well explained. Great job with the production, and the performances from the vocalist and players were all very impressive. I got a lot from this tutorial, both information and enjoyment - thanks!
Great vocalist. Wow!!!! I miss this kind of music. Pure genius.
Ski, Glaiza, Mark, Clare & strings and Ravine&Tony all smashed it!
I'm shocked that you found all the samples used, that's so awesome
This is pure gem. Thank you for this amazing deconstruction.
I was just listening to this track for the first time a few days ago and now you upload this, amazing timing for an amazing song
one of the best things i've seen on youtube in ages, thank you! so impressive how impeccably you recreated it
the singing really ate that
See how he pushes the buttons with that hand gesture every time, like a magician? well, that's how he wipes his ass, how he turns off the lights, how he pays the taxi driver, etc So majestic! lol
Wtf hahahha

I hope he washes those magical hands before turning the lights off and paying the taxi driver.

The vocal at the end is amazing !!
That's a truly amazing deconstruction. The final result sounds extraordinarily good! The real strings and the magnificent singer add a lot to it.
I'm really happy you guys broke this one down. Seriously it's one of the most beautiful tracks ever.
Thanks. With this kind of video everybody can understand how much work there's behind a song. The singer is very good, covering Bjork is really difficult.
Im so in love with this video, thank you so much for the magic deconstruction work you did here
Makes me love Bjork music even more.
AMAZING!!! One of the best videos I have seen on this platform. The way it all came together at the end gave me goosebumps. Thank you so much

You are AMAZING! I’m a huge fan of Björk and it’s amazing how I still can find something new to learn about her work! Love you thanks!
This is predomantly Nellee Hoopers work (also known for Massive Attack and Soul II Soul and many other great music)
Very nice video and great performances! Glaiza's vocals are amazing. I got this album for christmas around the time it was released, but since I'm a heavy metal guy I only listened to it a couple of times. I remember thinking Björk was pretty cool, and that her voice was unique, but the music was just a bit too weird for me back then. I still have the cd in my collection and now, 25 years later, I believe I might be ready to give it another listen. :)
That was one of her most "pop" albums. . just got weirder after that until now. I loved all her 90's albums.
compelling to watch - thank you!
I'm sat here smiling as you record all of this down, thinking about the day this classic was written.
Thanks for the upload.
Glaiza!! ✨✨✨
I hope she releases a new album
Thanks. Really enjoyed that. Her vocals remind me of The Sundays. Always wanted to hear what this song would sound like as a 90s house track.
Pure EMOTION. Many thanks for sharing, master.
Wow, exciting, thank you Ski and all for another amazing deconstruction. Love the song, and you did a fantastic job. It always looks so easy, when it isn't, actually....
Love this song! Was in college when this album released and got into a lot of electronic music then. I loved that Blörk embraced it and it. Wish I could see how they put it together without the DAW.
Great job. The high arpeggio-like synhtmelody sounds like Woody Woodpecker laughing.
Excellent work, thanks, it was lovely!
