So glad you are looking after your mental health and happiness but I miss the days you were filled with the setup (and specifically truck) madness. You are by far the best and most descriptive reviewer in the game. I must admit, I’m not ready to give up my own madness but as a lower income father of 2, I just can’t afford to buy and try. I genuinely miss living vicariously through you Ben. But keep making videos, even if they are madness free!
It sounds beautiful! Could you give me an understanding of what you exactly mean by the madness and how it correlartes with mental health? Is it like buying-addiction or something like that? Peace
@@TheIcebomber it’s always thinking there is something you could change about your setup that would improve your skating. It’s the desire to try every truck, every size, different bushings, different wheel formulas and shapes etc. It’s easy to get so wrapped up in this madness that you never give yourself a chance to get used to your board (which would actually improve your skating lol)
Your brother's part in North will always come to my mind when I think about that video. His part really stood up. Big shout out to Degros Bros. Greetings from Nicaragua!
I tried these and as someone whose favorite trucks are probably Venture Lo's I immediately loved them. They may be my favorite trucks now, but need more sessions to know for sure. The bushings are just flat out amazing and they don't freeze. I skated em when it was like 19 degrees Fahrenheit and they never felt different even after an hour.
What size board for the ventures? I’m recovering from an Achilles surgery but have a 7.75 and 8.25 set of venture lows I’m excited to skate. I just wonder how different they’re going to skate.

I cannot even start to compare trucks, because I don't have the skillset for it. So, thank you for your shared knowledge.
I love Royals. Bushings are straight trash. Pivot cups too. But if you add a washer underneath some thunder bushings ( with bushing washer) they are the damn ferrari of trucks. So now i can use a thunder rebuild kit and any decent pivot cup. Also might I add if you "crank down" any truck before breaking them in, the bushings turn to trash. Stay gnarly bros
I gotta say I love my 144 Royals. Wanted to try something else from thunders, so I scooped up some Ventures on a crazy good sale. Really liked the pop and stability, learned some new tricks on them, but hated the turn, the bushings suck in the cold and the pivot cups are suuuper loud. And now Royals mix the best traits of both Venture and Thunder for me. I'm a big fan of the bushings and the pivot cups do feel great. Mine haven't squeaked yet. They nailed the stability to turning ratio. I just gotta play with deck wheelbase now as I couldn't manual very well on the shitty 14.25 wb globe deck that I'm using for the winter. I blame you and the Slap forums for turning me into a truck nerd. I made a video of my own where I reviewed a few different brands after skating them long term ( until they break ). I'm kinda curious about these new Royals now too.
After one sesh on the royals, I can say they are definitely some really good trucks with some really good bushings. They are like a mix of thunder and indy. Been watching your vids for awhile. I always thought the Bullet trucks were the red-headed stepchild. I like Bullet very much but they seem to get a-lot of hate. I have some complaints about how trucks are sold. They usually don't show the inside or back so you can see what type of bushings they use, they don't tell you the height, they don't go into details that are important and I wonder why they don't spec them out. On another note - I'm looking for regular skateboard trucks that are the same height as standard Indy's that I can dump the 96a Independent barrels in the top and bottom. I put a longer kingpin in Indy's and was able to put the barrels in there but I'd like other options as well for trucks. One main problem with the Indy's with a longer kingpin is that the nut on the kingpin is higher than the hanger.

Can you do a bones bushings review.?. For me nothing comes remotely close to how good they feel. It was honestly like going from clay wheels to Spitfire F4's. I also skate Indy 169's on an 8.75 board mainly for transition but been recently getting into street and just learnt slappy's on parking blocks. God they are fun and that same board setup feels perfect for it. I also weigh 85 kg and ride the bones hard bushings.

Thanks Ben. Really interesting I had some royals a few years ago and they seemed stiff and the kingpin was too long. Are these a new model? The look is what caught me and the nostalgia. These also look great. Curious what model? Haha thanks Ben
It’s crazy how picky skaters are with setups. I can skate pretty much anything that’s shitty except wheels or trucks. Those have gotta be smooth and perfect.
Trying out these new Venture Awake Horizon 5.2 High w a hollow kingpin! Paired w a Felipe Gustavo 7.75 deck with bones stf 52mm v3 and bones medium bushings
I've had Destructor, Grind king, Royals, and Indys. I rather indys over those, but the Royals were not that bad, The last ones I had were actually the inverted ones.
Please do just one more truck review Grind King Axl truck (2000s era) They were light, short and low Just one more please... Just wanna know what do you think about them cause i love these, i do ride them bc they were on my first pro skateboard ever
Ben, i have a question that i think would make a good youtube video. I was wondering if you can shim one side of the trucks under the baseplate to change/improve the turn radius. I was planning on trying it by putting grip tape on the base plate of the truck itself in layers and making each layer consecutively smaller the first layer would not need to cover the entire truck
Ben, question about wheelbase and pop. I always hear Indy provide quicker pop and Thunder a heavier nose feeling because of wheelbase. Recently tho I set up the same board and wheels with Indy 144 forged hollow and then switched to Thunder 144. I put the tail down and marked on the wall where the nose hit with each set up. They were basically the same, with the Indy’s nose Mark being about a mm higher than the Thunder. Wouldn’t this mean the Indy forged hollow would create a heavier nose and more pop potential than the Thunder?
It’s like a teeter totter if you move the centre point! Also the forged Indy almost matches in axle height with regular thunders because you lose a about 2mm of the axle height from thinning the baseplate. Thunder is 52mm and forged Indy is 52.5 ….I think. Indy regs are 55mm. Are the bushings stock on both sets? Slightly bigger/smaller bushing sizes change things a bit too.
I've been riding early 2000s GK7s for ages, recently got some Death X Film trucks for my wide filmer board. They're super light but I honestly can't say they feel different to my GK7. At least, I can't tell anyway.

@@bendegros right on dude they’re pretty clean. After a simple google search I found my answer haha. Forgot to say kudos for shouting out your bro!
It’s crazy how picky skaters are with setups. I can skate pretty much anything that’s shitty except wheels or trucks. Those have gotta be smooth and perfect.
What about a review for the Ace AF1 trucks?
Trying out these new Venture Awake Horizon 5.2 High w a hollow kingpin! Paired w a Felipe Gustavo 7.75 deck with bones stf 52mm v3 and bones medium bushings
Ventures and Royals have always been my favorites
Are you going to review the latest hype - the lurpiv trucks Ben?
Is it lurpiv time ??
I've had Destructor, Grind king, Royals, and Indys. I rather indys over those, but the Royals were not that bad, The last ones I had were actually the inverted ones.
Please do just one more truck review
Grind King Axl truck (2000s era)
They were light, short and low
Just one more please... Just wanna know what do you think about them cause i love these, i do ride them bc they were on my first pro skateboard ever
Hey Ben, what size deck were you riding these 149 Royals on?
It's not about how high up it gets it's about how easy it is to get it there.
@@memorysometimers3067 Indy forged plates are 53-53.5mm high I believe.
@@bendegros Ok thanks man. Because yeah, the thunders I put on do FEEL more difficult to pop slightly, but I was confused by that test I did
@@sidwellsk8er They are. 53.5
I've been riding early 2000s GK7s for ages, recently got some Death X Film trucks for my wide filmer board. They're super light but I honestly can't say they feel different to my GK7. At least, I can't tell anyway.
played my buddy in a game of skate last month and his royals cracked
