    “Righteous alicent” whatever you say lmao. She’s literally just as bad (if not worse) than most of the other characters. She literally had at least one person killed so far that I can remember.
    I can’t stand her character in the show, she’s one of those people that judges everyone else and acts holier than thou while being just as bad if not worse. I get people may not like Rhaenyra, but I’ve seen people saying the greens are the “heroes” or the “good guys”. The greens are clearly the “bad guys” here. They pulled off a literal coup to take the throne from its rightful heir that viserys declared (multiple times as well). They had a secret plan to lock up/kill anyone that knew of the kings death and/or didn’t go along with their side. That should tell you all you need to know.

    • @kyleellis1825

    • @BertRussie
      @BertRussie Рік тому +21

      They are no true heroes and true villains. Rhaenyra has her part in turning Allicent against her. Allicent is right in saying that her children's lives are not safe as long Rhaenyra rules. You know what Daemon is capable of. And according to every existing tradition in Westeros (and in our world too really), Aegon II is the true heir and not Rhaenyra. Viserys became King only because of this tradition of male primogeniture. How can Viserys overturn a tradition of favouring male heirs ehen he himself was crowned over Rhaenys based on this tradition.
      And Allicent is absolutely right that the strong boys are born out of marriage and has no right to the throne. While her own kids, the true born sons of King Viserys gets nothing at all!!! That's really unfair!!!!
      I can feel Allicent. All her life, she is forced to follow rules and she does for the sake of the kingdom and her family but gets nothing in return while Rhaenyra simply pays no heed and does what she does and still gets Viserys's full support no matter what! I can totally get Allicent.

    Something to keep in mind is that Archmaester Gyldayn is relying on unreliable narrators about what happened during the Dance of the Dragons, living over a century after these events.
    One source he would rely on regarding the Kingsguard knights would be the White Book, which is only maintained by the Lord Commander.
    Criston Cole could easily fudge the date of Lord Commander Westerling's death to omit his criticism and resignation from the Kingsguard during the treason of the Green Council.

It’s like in WW2 when the French didn’t listen to there intelligence when they told their leaders that there is miles of German tanks and armoured vehicles all backed up in a traffic jam trying to cross the border in the Sudetenland but they were like “why would they attack where the defence is at it’s best? They’re gonna come in through the Netherlands then Belgium (which the Germans sent a small force to draw the French army there)”. It's no longer personal, about selfishness, and about each faction's perception of wrong and right. It's now very clear cut someone working for the greater good against an absolute evil. She just has to cut down some unfriendly family members in the process. The inclusion of more fantasy elements has actually not been as good as I'd hoped because it's clear that the original work was constructed while having that not be a motive.
    I think the adaptation has stripped a lot of characters of agency, and being deliberate in making decisions (Although, yes, there's still wiggle room for an argument for sure when it comes to each character's decisions).
    The thing is, I did want this to be Blacks Vs Greens, where the greens went ahead and usurped the throne, but then it would become this fantastic deconstruction of "the good guys" and "the bad guys".
    It would be about self (and legacy) destruction, about how ambition is sometimes terrible, about how choosing yourself over the greater good and doing "the right thing" on the surface is not necessarily for the best, and about the horrors of war and how it should be avoided at all costs.
    But with the inclusion of the prophecy it made all of this .... Inconsequential..
    Rhaenyra is no longer doing it for herself, she's doing it because of the prophecy, Alicent isn't willing to usurp the throne she just does it because she misunderstood Viserys.
    Everything is "watered down", the book is "less is more" in a brilliant way. The show is ... More but less. It's still better a million times than 99% of what's on TV though.
    I was expecting something more like... Dune but even more deconstructive and intelligent.
    But nope, gotta get watered down for a mainstream audience.
    They have the chance to make something actually smart though. Shame that was passed on in favor of something more digestible for a layman.
    I will still watch but I'm not gonna say that this was as good as it could be.
    Expecting more prophecy ex machina, more "spectacle" and unfortunately, less substance (Even though they don't have to choose between the two).

Meaning...the chances in the book that others knew was already there. It is a change because it was a man, not a woman or a boy, but...nah lol. This episode was terrible, and to have us believe Alicent only now wishes to place her son on the Throne because of a misunderstanding is so lame. Furthermore, Rhaenys bursts from the floor on her dragon, has the entire Green Council of traitor’s in front of her, and instead of killing them she elects to use the intimidation card and have her dragon yell at them? Yea, because that makes perfect sense. Worst episode so far, clean it up and stop trying to be better then the books so much, Hollyweird.

    • @nicoleolinger7633
      @nicoleolinger7633 Рік тому +7

      This episode was brilliant if you actually look further than surface level. Alicent has had her opinion warped since childhood that her children are going to die unless Aegon sits the throne. She disbelieves him at first because she loves and trusts Rhaenerya. But when Ser Criston reveals that she lied to her, Alicent starts to lean into the idea that her is corrupt. Add in some children that are bastards and all of a sudden Alicent is visibly witnessing a walking lie. Fast forward to the council meeting after Viserys dies and we see Alicent ask the group if they had been planning to usurp the throne all along. There is some disbelief, but also acceptance in her voice. For her to hear Viserys in his final moments breath out the name Aegon and pretty much spell out a situation in which Alicent misinterprets, it's all to easy to understand why Alicent accepts the idea of Aegon being king. Now to talk about Meleys and Rhaenys. She didn't want to be the factor on why a war would break out, and she felt compassion for Alicent when Alicent stepped in front of Aegon to protect him. The conversation between Alicent and her earlier brilliantly showcased the prison Alicent has found herself in. But a prison that she doesn't want to escape from. And Rhaenys had just lost her entire family. She didn't want to be the reason behind why another mother lost her family as well. It was a trade off. "I don't kill you and you spare me when this shit hits the fan" type of move. Meleys screaming at them was a reminder that Rhaenys COULD of killed them and she choose not. This episode was MARVELOUS for the interpersonal drama that was risen. If you can't see that, maybe it's just above your level of understanding lol

    • @GuardianShad

      Whilst I definitely agree about Rhaenys stupid display, the plot with Alicent misunderstanding Viserys makes much more sense with her characterisation in the show.
      Alicent in the books is a much, much darker character, and the same can be said of Rhaenyra. Ambition would be the only other logical reason, as the premise of a war to stop bastards ascending the throne would've been ridiculous; yet this Alicent lacks the ambition to follow through with the books portrayal

    Cool video but I do think that the emphasis on the "Greens' treasons" is a bit much. Aegon WAS Viscerys's first born son. And let's not forget that Alicent genuinely believed that Viscerys changed his mind about Rhaenyra before he died. She couldn't have known that the dying Viscerys thought he was talking to his daughter, so in their mind, the Greens are fulfilling the king's wish.

    • @MzCheecharella
      @MzCheecharella Рік тому

      Not really (re, in the minds of the Green's, they believe they are fulfilling Viscery's wishes), because remember, the Greens' had plotted to install Aegon as king, WELL before Alicent believed that Viscerys had chosen him in his dying words. Even Alicent was shocked to learn they'd been plotting to overthrow Rhaenyra as Viscerys' chosen heir before she (incorrectly) declared to them the King's change of heart before his death. So, yeah, the Green faction were indeed, intent upon committing treason, and long in the act of committing treason.
