I think people need to remember a few things in reference to the "change" made to Luke/Arrax' deaths... 1. The details in the book as a whole are often not completely accurate, educated guesses, or based on recounting from less-than-reliable sources years after the events. Not to mention possibly biased depending on if you being the Maester Conspiracy. 2. In the books, we are given no insight into the minds of characters at any point unless they are directly quoted. There is no universally omnicient narrator who can read minds in Fire and Blood. 3. Both Aemond/Vhagar and Luke/Arrax had to leave Storm's End going into the same direction to get to their neighboring destinations of King's Landing and Dragonston respectively. Having Aemond frighten the smaller pair with te sheer size of Vhagar but lose control when she got a taste for the hunt, or more likely when Arrax tried to defend himself, makes total sense. 4. It also makes total sense from a character perspective that Aemond would decide after the accident to claim it as intentional because he's smart enough to know that **no one** in their right mind would believe him if he said he didn't mean to, lost control, etc. He was more than likley trying to save face as well as earn the reputation he's likely always wanted, no matter the cost of the label of kinslayer. 5. You can't say it was a change. It was, like the rest of the book, an embellishment that made perfect sense given what we already know of the events. We know Aemond tried to set Luke off while inside Storm's End, that he was insulted by one of Borros' daughters, and that he flew off. BIG GAP later, we see the dragons engaging in battle above the Castle and Luke/Arrax both die. That's it. It cannot be stressed enough that, in the book Fire and Blood, there is no omnicient third person narrator to detail what couldn't have been heard or seen by outsiders. Only Aemond, and Vhagar, know the truth of that 'battle' but one more than likley tried to cover it up and the other is a non-talking dragon so... I personally love the change as it adds an almost Jaime-esque level of tragedy where in making his admitedly stupid mistake, Aemond has to sacrifice a good reputation to save face. Not at all a bad choice IMO and certainly not a 'retcon' or 'supid one' as I've seen many argue...
The end result was the same though, aemond worked vhagar up just by personality, then Luke's dragon fired at her and she wanted revenge. Aemond deep down prolly wanted Luke hurt or dead, just not dead in that moment. But vhagar just decided to cut through human bs. It's like when laena wanted to be burned. Vhagar didn't want to but it took a few secs to a few mins to make vhagar understand it was a mercy kill. Vhagar didn't disobey laena to be cruel or rebel, vhagar liked laena. I think what it is is vhagar senses emotions, possibly over 80 percent and then she doesn't care what people think or keeping face. I mean daemon and laena were married and it's possible vhagar at minimal at least tolerated daemon because of laena. But even if daemon were on vhagar, if she was worked up enough she'd still kill Luke
I thought that Rhaenerya didnt kill Otto because he was acting in the capacity of an envoy. And Daemon was itching to do it. She seemed to be trying to walk the road of peace, at least initially. Maybe she should have let Daemon clip his head off his shoulders......
Otto dies, greens go to war, luke dies,vengeful raneryah goes to war. Same diff, just diff timing. I love fact they recreated that scene and Otto was twice the fool. Daemon could have killed Otto twice over, raneryah spares him twice and the fool never learns

It definitely was not the most gruesome thing in GOT. It was pretty realistic. Also, her daughter was born boney with an umbilical cord around her neck. The reality is she looks like a premature fetus with a traumatic birth. Their interpretation is that she was twisted with scales but in reality she looked like a super premie.
I agree with his point that they didn't need to "humanize" Aemond since he was different from everyone else when it comes to loving the other side of the family. He was always picked on and when he got finally got his dragon he got his eye cut out! It is completely reasonable that he was just waiting for an excuse to kill one of them since he really is the only one without that background of previously loved people.
agree and Aemond's upbring speaks more to the saying "villains are just a victim from another time" and after how he grew up; it makes it far more compelling for him to look regretful for killing Arrax and Lucerys instead of some response you'd expect from a Cersei like character
That stillbirth scene was one of the most horrifying things I've seen in GoT or Hot-D. The zoom-ins of the baby's corpse really broke me & I had to rewatch the episode a 2nd time, skipping that part in order to register what happened after.
I rewatched the episode last night & that part (Daemon ignoring her cries for help added on) was brutal. They pulled off making the baby look dragonlike.
@@hangingon I only saw the baby as quickly as my eyes could close. So, I didnt see how much it resembled Miri's description of Dany's. And yeah ugh Daemon disappointed me in that episode. I know he's not a "Good guy" but that really bothered me. Not to mention when he pulls a Stannis and wraps his hands around Rheanyra's throat.

Rhenyra is trying to oppose the patriarchy but has no idea how to do it, aligning herself with a man who represents much that is wrong with it. (His inferiority complex as a man is highlighted well in the show.) I imagine she was drawn to him in part because the partriarchs that had power over her did not want him around. But in part because he was always kind to her specifically while treating everyone else to shit. Alot of women think that they are immune to the violent tendencies of violent men and eventually find out otherwise...
Wouldn’t say it was the worst, but man I cried. I had to switch it off for a minute. I’m a mum to two healthy kids thank goodness, but I can imagine that stillbirth is one of the most traumatic experiences a woman could go through.

GRRM has stated that the books are actually not 100% accurate as they are 3rd hand stories/accounts the maesters heard about and wrote down often years even decades after the events took place, the only exception is the GoT timeline which takes place in the present timeline of the song and ice and fire story but everything else from the prequel stories is 3rd hand accounts obtained from people that claimed to witness the events or people that heard the story from a witness then retold it themselves with the best example being the court jester named mushroom.

I agree 100% about Alicent being such an awful character. The actress has these facial expressions that make me cringe! I'm not sure if that's what GRRM wanted for her character, but wooheee, she's a good actress because of the emotion her face can emote. She was meh when the younger girl acted the part but this older woman brought Alicent to life! I hate her and the greens so much! And that's exactly what people love about dramatic writing!

Exactly! Daemon knows that he cannot wait for the birth of his child (which could literally take days) He knew they needed to get to work straight away. Even Rhaenyra acknowledges this subliminally by remaining silent for most of the council about how they will handle the war!
Okay let's see if I've got it. The entire Kingdom has accepted Rhynaers accepted the kings daughter to become the queen when he dies. They've all beleived in her, they've taken a knee to her. This was never contested for all these 20 plus years! Then suddenly a doped up, almost dead Visaerys umbles something in the ear of his wife, with NO witnesses, that he wants their er son to become king.😳 Does nobody in this kingdom think that's odd? One person who has everything to gain tells the people that the king changed his mind and now wants Aegon to be crowned as the new king?? I call BULL DOOKEY!!!
When Aegon the conquerer lived, all the lords of the seven kingdoms bent the knee and did him homage, they "believed" in him, perhaps. When Aegon the Conquerer died, His dragon riding eldest son took the throne, and within a few years, there were seven rebellions in the realm and Aenys I fled kingslanding to die in his thirties. This is normal. Also there will be loads of people who think its odd and fight, kill and die, for Rhaenyra and to honor their oaths. Lord Borros is an arrogant cunt, who wanted a royal marriage. The riverlords, the northern lords, the vale lords, and a good chunk of reacher lords will all rise to oppose the Hightower treachery.
It doesn’t really matter who pledged what to who, all that matters is who holds the power. Since the hightowers have the Citadel at their side (controlling most maestros) and they literally are based in kings landing with Viserys sons in their bloodline…. They have quite a strong claim! Plus they crowned Aegon in front of the entire city, in which most of the people don’t care who is the rightful heir!
I really liked how the chase played out. My whole thought is in the book the story is told by unreliable narrators who are going to sensationalize the events to entertain or they allowing their own biases about the characters write the story. Very news networks during election time .
Its not just that they want the throne because they simply desire it.Each mother - Rheanyra and Alicent- want the crown because having the crown means their children are safer. Its was the same as the war of the Roses. The mothers pushed their sons into trying to win the crown to keep them safe. It wasn’t the dudes it was chicks that started that war
Otto's problem with Daemon starts with the rumors of his daughter losing her virginity to him. That's why he hated him. That's why Alicent was so upset at the rumors of young Rheanyra and Daemon at the club that night. If it weren't true, emotions might not have let everything go so far. Otto's greediness for his family to sit on the throne wouldn't have gone so far. Alicent was smart enough to know what he was doing. She wouldn't have let it happen if she hadn't felt so betrayed by both of them. Even Aegon was happy to let his sister take the throne. Otto was just a scheming POS who got lucky that everything just kept falling into place for him.
Daemon was the only other person Viserys listened to and Otto wanted to be the only person who Viserys listened too. Plus Daemon always challenged Otto which he hated.
Rhaenyra gets the crown of the united westeros.. of her peaceful father... Aegon of his namesake.. conquering.. spilling blood.. bad times.. dark omen.. Giving Rhaenyra the crown of her father was the best choice.
Rhaenyra’s baby girl proves that incest truly make their dragon blood pure ( i think they really have a blood of the dragon that’s why they can mount a dragon and have that connection )
Nah, I see the show changing Aemond's character as the best example of the victors writing the history. The Blacks end up winning , so every story about Aemond seeks to villaify him and kinslaying. Had the Greens won, he would have been portrayed sympathetically and heroically.

Can we just take a moment to appreciate what a badass move it was to land Syrax behind otto's brigade and part their ranks to casually stroll to her husband's side? The politics are just a constant dick-measuring contest and Rhaenyra just laid out a solid 9 1/2 inches.
The Darklyns also took as prisoner and held the Mad King Aerys for six months as a hostage in their castle with Tywin outside waiting. Barriston the Bold Selmy went in and unilaterally rescued Aerys, who ended the Drarklyn line with wholesale murder
Jesus Christ….no one knows if he did it on purpose or not. You think there were spectators in the skies? Or we can read a play by play of his thoughts like you can in the main book series? We just have what he said to people and what narrative built up around him, and what was conveyed by the three big sources that the maester who wrote the source material the show is based on relied upon.
The book is written as a history book from the side of the victors. I'm sure they painted the greens way worse and the blacks way better because that's how history books work.
So there's certain stuff I don't mind they made diff from the books but umm the biggest one that threw and bugged me was rhenyese. Like if rhaneryah first 3 sons really weren't with her husband, yes it matters how rheynese and lenor look in the show because genetics wise I think jace Luke and joff didn't have to have the silver hair because rhenyese is part baratheon and in books has dark hair. Also even if the 3 boys weren't lenors, couldn't they just claim they looked more baratheon like grandmother? And the worst thing in the show that really had difference between lines and visuals was when we know the sons are not fathered by lenor and rhaneryah tells Luke he's part baratheon like grandma, because in show rhenyese looks full Targaryen. And I like how she is in show, they should have kept those lines out. Apparently the most talked on difference is Luke's death, at least way I view it, even though aemond looks shocked, that kill was no accident. If we go off premise dragons can sense things about their riders, even though timing was accident, vhagar knew aemond wanted Luke hurt. It's just after Luke's dragon fired on vhagar, now vhagar wanted revenge. Aemond is similar to less chill daemon, which by the way I'd never say give vhagar to daemon. And I actually like daemon

I agree 100% about Alicent being such an awful character. The actress has these facial expressions that make me cringe! I'm not sure if that's what GRRM wanted for her character, but wooheee, she's a good actress because of the emotion her face can emote. She was meh when the younger girl acted the part but this older woman brought Alicent to life! I hate her and the greens so much! And that's exactly what people love about dramatic writing!

It doesn’t really matter who pledged what to who, all that matters is who holds the power. Since the hightowers have the Citadel at their side (controlling most maestros) and they literally are based in kings landing with Viserys sons in their bloodline…. They have quite a strong claim! Plus they crowned Aegon in front of the entire city, in which most of the people don’t care who is the rightful heir!

I really liked how the chase played out. My whole thought is in the book the story is told by unreliable narrators who are going to sensationalize the events to entertain or they allowing their own biases about the characters write the story.

Otto's problem with Daemon starts with the rumors of his daughter losing her virginity to him. That's why he hated him. That's why Alicent was so upset at the rumors of young Rheanyra and Daemon at the club that night. If it weren't true, emotions might not have let everything go so far. Otto's greediness for his family to sit on the throne wouldn't have gone so far. Alicent was smart enough to know what he was doing. She wouldn't have let it happen if she hadn't felt so betrayed by both of them. Even Aegon was happy to let his sister take the throne. Otto was just a scheming POS who got lucky that everything just kept falling into place for him.

We just have what he said to people and what narrative built up around him, and what was conveyed by the three big sources that the maester who wrote the source material the show is based on relied upon.
The book is written as a history book from the side of the victors. I'm sure they painted the greens way worse and the blacks way better because that's how history books work.

So there's certain stuff I don't mind they made diff from the books but umm the biggest one that threw and bugged me was rhenyese. Like if rhaneryah first 3 sons really weren't with her husband, yes it matters how rheynese and lenor look in the show because genetics wise I think jace Luke and joff didn't have to have the silver hair because rhenyese is part baratheon and in books has dark hair. Also even if the 3 boys weren't lenors, couldn't they just claim they looked more baratheon like grandmother? And the worst thing in the show that really had difference between lines and visuals was when we know the sons are not fathered by lenor and rhaneryah tells Luke he's part baratheon like grandma, because in show rhenyese looks full Targaryen. And I like how she is in show, they should have kept those lines out. Apparently the most talked on difference is Luke's death, at least way I view it, even though aemond looks shocked, that kill was no accident. If we go off premise dragons can sense things about their riders, even though timing was accident, vhagar knew aemond wanted Luke hurt. It's just after Luke's dragon fired on vhagar, now vhagar wanted revenge. Aemond is similar to less chill daemon, which by the way I'd never say give vhagar to daemon. And I actually like daemon
