My home ec teacher wasn't nearly this pretty...or as much fun! Maybe we could just plug The Browns into a virtual classroom and give the kids a credit... they'd be learning more than home ec without even realizing it. 💞

Thank you, Miss Lori! Today I got over my fear of pressure canning and put up 16 jars of black beans, thanks to you! After watching your video about four times I had enough courage and knowledge to simply go for it! My hubby’s grandma would be proud to know someone is still enjoying her old school All American pressure canner. I bet I made her smile in Heaven today❤
I appreciate you more than you know, thank you for such wonderful videos.

That's an extremely important step to do! Looking thru that Vent Hole. I canned the other day, and after cleaning up, I looked thru the hole and..IT WAS BLOCKED! I took a toothpick cleaned it out. Wow...I never thought that would block up after 2 canning sessions. Don't skip that step!

My wife and I are both farm raised, live in the city for now and just recently got back into canning, thank you for sharing this valuable information and skill. When I was a kid my parents had a room in our basement we all referred to as the "Fruit Room" as that is where they kept all of the fruit and what not they canned. I can still picture all the rows of Peaches, Pears, Plums, Cherries and Apple Butter. Two chest freezers full of meat and garden vegetables and usually two 100 pound bags of potatoes in a cool place, with seven in the family you learn to save where you can and eat what's set in front of you. Love watching your channel.

That’s how I sort thru my beans, only on a cookie sheet. Put on music or videos and pick thru. I actually do the entire bag, and repackage in quart bags. Then, when I’m ready to do beans, I know that part has been done. Whatever works right!! Love your video and presentation. Thank you!

Good presentation! I also keep a couple of jars of dried beans already measured with beans, salt and spices (except water) handy in order to fill up the canner if I don't have a full canner! If you like hummus, try the garbanzo beans with a couple hunks of red bell pepper and a clove or two of garlic! When ready to use add the jar to a food processor with about a tbs of olive oil and you have instant hummus!

Meme Zim Hi! The best thing to do when you start canning is to take lots of notes. How much you made and how much you eat in a year. That way it helps gauge next time you try something out. Have fun because canning is great!😉

I always loved it when moma let me help her can beans. We did quart jars of pinto beans. Some days we might do as many as 42 jars. People don't realize just how long it takes to do a canning process unless they have done it themselves. Lol Moma kept three or four canners going at one time. As soon as we pulled one canner off, we were ready to put another one on the burner. I love watching ur shows. Thank you for all your information and recipes.

Thanks for the info! I happened upon a sale of ground turkey. I could only get two pounds. I wanted to can it, but seemed a shame to only run 3 jars in the canner. Then, I remembered this. I found a partial bag of baby lima beans. The jars of beans and the jars of meat are in the canner doing their thing. Winter will be here soon, and I"m sure they'll be a blessing to have on hand. God bless!

Recently, I bought a pressure canner just so I can start canning beans. You've made it look much easier than I thought it would be.
When I was a child my Mom cooked dinner with her pressure cooker and instilled FEAR of it in us kids! Thankfully, electric pressure cookers have eliminated much of that fear for so many of us.
If I managed to get over that fear.. I can tackle pressure canning too!
Thanks for your step by step directions.

I have never pressure canned dry beans until watching your videos. I have to tell you, thanks to you, we are enjoying black eyed peas for the first time in our long, long lives! I added 1/2 teaspoon salt and a little dab (on the end of a dinner knife, maybe 1/2 teaspoon at the most) of BTB pork bullion to each pint jar. Comfort food, just heat and eat. So wonderful and tasty! For our first taste I sauteed some onions a little bit and just dumped the jar of beans into the pan. No meat, just fine as-is. Thank you for sharing your best!

I got started late last night and didn’t get finished until midnight. My husband went to bed because of the vinegar smell and then got up saying he couldn’t sleep and complained until I finished. I was an absolute nervous wreck when I finished but I still love my new canner! As our children grew and moved out it was just the 2 of us and I stopped having a garden so we could go camping, fishing, and just have fun with each other after working long days. After being introduced to UA-cam and finding you, l started canning things from the freezer and gathering bulk as I found them. What enjoyment. You have inspired me and I thank you for that. 💖Robin.

Back in the early 80's, when my children were very small, my MIL had field peas and speckled butterbeans, that she had canned herself, as part of our Thanksgiving dinner. I still remember how delicious and fresh those peas and beans tasted, to this day. I have never been able to match the taste. Cornbread Dressing and Chicken Dumplings had always been my favorite til that day. All of her cooking was delicious. She was a lunch lady for 30 or more years. She retired from it twice.

I canned almost 10lbs, of pintos last summer , it was actually easy.but I used a presto pressure cooker. it only took 45 minutes, and I was able to can 6 or 7 pints at a time.

@@fendtman55 Did you mean 75 minutes? It's 75 minutes for pints, 90 minutes for quarts.

Even though I've canned all my life I still enjoyed watching you go step by step reminding me of the things I should be thinking about and watching for. Canning is a kind of therapy. So it was enjoyable watching you. 🙂

    Thank you, Lorie.
This takes me back to when my mom and I would spend a month in August canning everything from our huge garden plus jams. We had a big pantry with canned goods that lasted our family through the next canning season. We also bought half a beef and pork for the freezer so our grocery shopping was fairly small. That was nearly 40 years ago. I really miss that simpler time. I have a ceramic cook top and not recommended for pressure canning.

Very good tutorial for the folks that's new to canning. I don't think we ever canned dry beans at home but I'm going to try this. We always had so much coming in fresh ever year we rarely had much dry except for pole beans

I only just watched this video. I have only done water bath canning since 2020. I've wanted to try canning dry beans but was so intimidated by it. Don't ask me why because I couldn't say. Your video gave me the confidence I needed to try my very first pressure canned beans. Using your recipe with my favorite spices I did it! I can't wait to try them with some cornbread. Thank you Miss Lori for making these videos and providing your knowledge to us

You might want to remind folks not leave the rings on after everything has cooled down. Storing with the rings can lead to problems down the road. If for some reason the lid did not seal or God forbid it breaks free during storage the rings being on would prevent you from seeing it and it could cause some health issues.
All of your videos are awesome and you and Mr. Brown are a true icon of America.

Thank you, Ms. Lori! You remind me so much of my sweet Grandmothers. One of them was from Arkansas! You’re helping me feel connected to them - a lot of what you’re doing is like the canning I saw in their homes when I was a little girl. Hope y’all are doing alright. Take care!

Lori this is an amazing art we all need to do. My Aunt in SW Virginia made shuck beans and those were the best I have ever eaten. I have no idea what kind of bean she used, but she dried them, then froze them. So good.

So glad to know dried beans don’t need overnight soaking and parboiling in order to can. I got a canner for Christmas and yes, I did the “long way” to pressure can beans. Won’t be doing that again.

Those turned out so pretty !! Miss Lori , my mama taught me a little trick several years ago , to take the seal out of my pressure cooker and stretch them a little bit with your hands . Just making sure the seal is still good and it helps it from spewing . I'm glad you shared this with us . I've never canned beans before . I'm gonna try this !! God bless y'all and take care !! ❤❤
