@@ushagorringe3250Yours probably came with a 15 pound weight so if you needed 10 pounds pressure it would not rock. They sell them like that so it covers all altitudes. To me it's better to buy 10 pound separately. Mine beaks away and covers 5, 10, 15 lbs. The 15 works but you have to watch your dial guage much more closely. I hope this makes sense.
Are you using a flat top stove? One of my followers did and when she read her instruction book her stove recommended only 1 of the eyes for canning and she was using the wrong one.
@@AtHomewithMrsJoan yes ma’am I have the glass flat top but I’m wanting to get the stove with the eyes when I find it on sale. I was told you could use the flat tops just be careful have you ever heard that??
I have canned beans various ways and they all seem to soak up most of the liquid over time, my dry beans done this way were great for a while but then soaked up the water - I did a bit less head space on those as well. This last batch I did the "right" way but have only been on the shelf a couple of weeks, am keeping an eye on the fluid level in those just to see but the beans thus far look like they held together well but the true test is when I use them LOL.
@@renaesutton3145 I understand. We've got to be a scientist/chemist it feels like. But whether they soak up some juice or not they are 100 times better than bought cans. Us canners will keep on trying.
You are great! Thank you so much for being detailed in each step. I have had my canner for 2 years too afraid to try till I saw your video. Getting nervous it's been boiling 45 min some steam but button is still down, not much steam. Hopefully get better soon😮
Thanks a million for answering! I stayed by the stove, scared! Wt kept going up ,so I tapped on regulator to let some steam out since it never rocked like yours! Well, our Grandma's, our Great Grandma's, and their Great Grandma's all survived how they did it. And some one out there telling us how we have to do it was not even heard of yet. So follow what you know they did. Follow your own instincts and you will be okay. With them destroying our foods with glue and Bioengineared stuff. What do they know ???
Great dried bean video. Do you drain the water before you use the canned beans in a recipe? Can this be done with dried lentils? Love the apron! Happy New Year 😊
I haven't done dry lentils as we don't care for them. I want to say yes. I just pour all contents in pot and warm and eat unless adding to soup. Then I rinse juice off just because it weakens the pretty red color of a tomato based soup. (Example..taco, chili, vegetable soup). Thanks for commenting!
How long can you keep the beans on the self for? Im told you can keep a can of store bought on the shelf for 20 years, Im not to sure if that is true, but anyway Miss Joan, thanks so much in advance
Mrs. Joan I’ve heard a lot of people say if you have any beans that are floating that they are bad beans. Is that true and do I have to throw them away? Btw I love everything about you!!! ❤

I love canning dry beans. It makes them an "open and eat" convenient food.
I just found you and love what I saw!!! You are up there with some of the best!!!!!!!
@@RebeccaSwain-i6p What a nice thing to say. So kind of you.
Enjoyed your video!!! I’ve canned for years but just getting serious to have what I might need.
Thank you. I love canning and preserving food.
It didn't rock like yours either, but the temp is finally going up. Thanks so much again! Gonna order the 10 wt like yours.
❤❤❤ Love Your Personality!

Thank you so much mrs Joan I’m super new to canning and have tried two batches of beans with no success lol but I’m going to keep trying ❤
Lots of people use flat tops. Look in your manual or research your model on line.
I bought one of those Blackstone TYPE propane grilles with two large circular burners. Use this for Canning. Grace
@@johnglad5 I don't have one of those. Nice!
Love your videos and that southern accent. I got one too im from Georgia!
Awe...thanks! Can't hide that southern drawl!
I'm canning some right now.
Yay! Let me know how they turn out!
I loved this video so you got a new subscriber. Great personality !!
Thank you! I'll enjoy cooking and canning with you.
You are great! Thank you so much for being detailed in each step. I have had my canner for 2 years too afraid to try till I saw your video. Getting nervous it's been boiling 45 min some steam but button is still down, not much steam. Hopefully get better soon😮
@@ushagorringe3250 Is your stove on a high heat? Then adjust heat lower once 10 pound pressure is on. Let me know how yours turn out.
Thanks a million for answering! I stayed by the stove, scared! Wt kept going up ,so I tapped on regulator to let some steam out since it never rocked like yours! Jars look good except some look like the water from jar came out? I put all new lids and hand tightened too! I probably need to use them soon. Thanks for checking on me!
@@ushagorringe3250 Don't give up! The first few times can be scary then it clicks in your head....Hey I can do this!
I was thinking of using the mixed beans and kielbasa
Sounds delicious!
Me too with some garlic and tomato paste
I don’t have a canner. My grandmother boiled the jars in a large pot with a rag on the bottom. Is that advisable?
I don't know. I've read the Amish water bath (boil) everything. You might search other UA-cam channels.
As long as you have a good tight seal it should be fine. I don't know about 20 years. We eat our stuff up in a few years.
Mrs. Joan I’ve heard a lot of people say if you have any beans that are floating that they are bad beans. Is that true and do I have to throw them away? Btw I love everything about you!!! ❤
I appreciate your nice comment. If I see any beans float to top when I add the water in jar I usually dip them out. But really it's just an older bean.
First time on your channel-loved it! Quick question-are the beans ready to eat when you open the jar or do they require some additional cooking time?
They are ready to eat! I put a little bacon grease in them to season and heat and eat. Talk about fast food!
Also when preserving homemade soup- should we water bath it or pressure cook it?
I pressure can my vegetable soup 55 minutes pints, 85 minutes quarts.
@@AtHomewithMrsJoan thank you. Can we add meat to it and have it be the same time frame?
@@zukeeper6 If you add any kind of meat it is 90 for quarts and 75 for pints (minutes). The same as if you canned just meat.
@@AtHomewithMrsJoan Thank you
@AtHomeWithMrsJoan im curious, I'm new to canning. Haven't done even my 1st jar as of yet. When doing beans at home I like to add onion and ham. Can you do this when starting dry beans for canning?
Yes you can because dry beans and ham (meat) process the same amount of time. 75 pints 90 quarts. (minutes) Good luck, you'll enjoy it!
How do you keep your beans fresh, from getting stale. And if they are stale how do you prep before cooking so they're not hard??
I don't have a problem with dry beans going stale. I store them in an air tight container.
