    I wish Honda would make a 30-32” twin blade mower

  • @mellowjammer
    @mellowjammer 6 років тому +7

    Honda needs to make a 30" version of the HRX217HZA
    with Microcut blades (2 sets), hydro drive, NeXite deck, etc. The only problem is they don't really have the right vertical shaft engine to do the job right. The GSV190 is probably not quite enough and after that there's nothing until you get to the GXV340 which is perfect power-wise at 15 ft. lbs of torque, but the thing weighs 71 lbs. Maybe if it is situated properly on a nice light (but strong) neXite deck it could work. Probably would be better with a lighter 250-280cc engine though, if they developed one. Something like that would be a monster and put the Toro and Exmark commercial machines on notice as to the the best mulching capable 30"er available. Do it Honda!

    Such a useful review, the manufacturer should really watch this and use it for and future designs, no engineer could possibly note all these user experiences. I really want a 30" mower just for my own yard to save some time and I'm between this, the exmark and maybe even a commercial 32" but I have some smaller areas and like the rear bagging. The fact that Toro didn't get back to you on the blade flying off and damaging someone's building, well that pretty much turns me off the most from this mower but since they make Exmark too, well, same thing I guess. Thanks for posting this really in depth review with real world information.

    Hey bud...good video on the toro. I bought the exmark, and have been happy overall. You hit some points that are shared with the exmark. One thing you didn't mention, that I have learned is I ALWAYS shut the fuel valve off, and let the mower stall out when finished mowing a yard before transport. I have owned two of them, and if you don't shut the fuel valve off, because of the bad air filter design, the needle valve can stick open. When this happens, if the valves are in the right spot, the cylinder will fill up with fuel and hydro lock basically. When it happens, you cant restart the mower. You have to pull the spark plug and drain the fuel out. Just something else to keep in mind.

    Hey man! Just curious where your from and how much these are brand new in your area? I'm from Peterborough Ontario and the 2015 models are on clearance for 2499.00$ save a couple hundred roughly. Also is the 2016 model improved at all? I may spend the extra for an improved model

    Can you get the wheel moving without having to engage the blades? And btw for the bald tires, staple some bicycle tire tread on them.

    THE WHEELS ON ALMOST ALL MOWERS ARE PURPOSELY MADE CHEAP. DESIGNED THIS WAY INTENTIONALLY SO THEY CAN GOUGE YOU ON REPLACEMENT WHEELS EVERY YEAR OR TWO. WHAT THEY WANT FOR JUST ONE WHEEL IS INSANE LET ALONE FOUR. YOU WOULD HOPE AT SOME POINT SOMEONE WOULD MAKE HIGH QUALITY AFTER MARKET WHEELS AND CASH IN ON THESE BASTARDS. I KNOW THEY COULD BE MADE FOR THE SAME PRICE AND WHO WOULDN'T WANT THE LONGER LASTING WHEEL ?

    • @joeprocopio7985

      its not just the wheels buddy. my friends works on our toro dealer. works on them all day.
      he says every year, more plastic, less metal. They make these machines to work well for a little while then break.
      maybe I've just had a bad experience, but I've spent probably over 25,000 just on Toro equipment. and this 30inch is truly a piece of crap!

    Straight handle-bar on a walk-behind should be found on a budget mower. They need to make a more professional style handle-bar for that model. If you are walking behind and turning for 6 hours, your hands are going to feel it.

    Awesome and unbiased review.
    Ever since our Aussie inventor designed the rotary mower one hundred years ago, who would have thought manufactures still could market both domestic and commercial mowers with such massive design flaws.
    How hard can it be?
    It’s not the space shuttle, it’s a friggin lawnmower.
    Just like John Deere, Toro rely on their name and paint colour to pump out absolute inferior junk for profit.
    Again, great Vid and I’ll be going for better products 👍

I made a mistake on selling a great Craftsman rider a few years back, tried another one and they all have the same Popping Clutch Issue where they are hazardous ride and will give you whiplash. I was looking at this wide walk behind and was torn, you review makes a good case for it, covers some issues. Thanks for posting.

    I wouldn't go using Ford/Lincoln and Chevy/GMC as comparisons. My parents owned at 1997 Lincoln Continental and that car was a piece of junk! So just because you pay the premium brand price doesn't mean you're getting premium quality.

    BTW, exmark is a wholly owned subsidiary of toro. The difference is they say exmark is supposed to be “commercial” while toro is for home owners- whatever that means. They are all made in the same place, by the same people.

    List of issue's about the 30 inch Toro Turd-Master the transmissions go out within a year, another the cable brake bracket snap off due to factory not using lube to prevent corrosion when assembled in mexico. So you end up with broken screw stuck in cutting deck that takes awhile to extract broken screw out. And the V-Belts go out with 4 to 6 months of use... The Brake Arm pully's get locked up.. Another issue, the cutting deck pulleys go out when the dust caps pop-off allowing dirt inside causing wear burning out the bearings, the Factory sometimes forget to tighten the damn motor mounts on upper deck gets worn out due to vibration... Don't ever buy one. It's the worse design flaw, and a cheap design that is too heavy and slap on face on the consumer. I know cuz I work on these at a dealership repairing em for warranty paying the Tech shit to fix their issue's. Don't even waste your time with the new 21" Commercial Toros.. They are shit too, the transmissions go out on those during year and half of use...
    The Old 21 inch commercial Toros 22195 and 22197 still the best. DON'T buy a new one.

    I bought the ExMark 30 Commercial the first year of it's release and put on an hour meter. The mower was so fast and strong when new but slow and slippery ever since. I've had to replace a transmission after about every 110 hours of use. The first one or two were covered under warranty. The first trans was the best and every trans since has slipped much more and tightening didn't help as it was as tight as possible. They said they made improvements but all the trans have slipped more. The part number did change. I asked my dealer and he said they lightened the clutch to make it last longer but, I said like a automotive clutch, if you let it slip more, it wears faster so I call B.S. on Toro/ExMark. I tightened the cable so much to make it better it eventually snapped. I retired my mower to personal use after maybe 500 hours. Since new, I've spent at least $2000 on pulleys, spindles, bearings, transmissions, belts, cables, etc. It hasn't made a nice cut the last half of the use (250hrs+). Only the Kawasaki engine has been perfect, otherwise it's a lemon!! Avoid it at all cost! I wish I could sue! Later, I bought the Toro Hydro 21 Aerator brand new, from a different dealer. On every job after about 20mins the aerator slowed down to maybe 1mph. The dealer and rep said they didn't have a clue and because it cooled down by the time they would look at it they did not believe me. I showed a video and they said, huh, we don't know. Fluids were all new and full, and I used Premium Ethanol-free. I fought it for a while and sold it.

  • @CarolynDeasonmusiclistener

    Scrape off the foam. We think you can still use the air filter without the foam. UNLESS, this makes the filter too loose. In that case, put something on top of the filter, (such as another piece of GOOD FOAM), to keep it tight. We own a small engine repair shop. Maybe this will help. Excellent video. Very thorough. Thank you! BTW, what size are your Hondas? 21"? Or larger?

    Thank you for the excellent review. I've been debating purchasing this machine or its Exmark version but the reviews have been so mixed that I am hesitant to purchase it considering the purchase price of $2 400 here in Canada where I live. I have a few questions for you:
    1. Does the machine rut at all?
    2. How good does it bag...especially the wet stuff and leaves?
    Thank you and keep up the great videos.

    In The Transmission if you read the instructions there is a bolt or something you can loosen to give more power. I read that and immediately fixed it and I laughed at my self cause that weak transmission gave me so many problems! That's a heavy mower to be pushing up a steep hill, once I did that I literally was able to move it with no effort, one hand even!

  • @OilBurner350
    @OilBurner350 9 років тому

    How is the cut quality on your? It's not that great on mine especially in tall grass. I also feel that the mower is under powered. I noticed that when I empty the bag, whether it is full out not, there is a build up of grass in the chute. Like if it doesn't have enough power to shoot the grass all the way into the bag. Great video by the way.

    I also have this mower and you hit it right on the head. I do not have the blade issue that you talked about but more of a carb. issue and not from the air filter. It will not idle down and will not restart when hot it takes sometimes 15 pulls to restart but when cold 1. I dont know if you have this proplem or not but somthing to look for. Also the front baffle comes off with 4 bolts under deck this slightly helps with grass build up under deck. Thanks for video.

    One question. Basically no one has the answer. What is the torque on this engine? Now some others questions: Why does the tread matter if it's weight makes wheel grip very good? Does the ticking problem still exist on the latest models as of 5/2017? Why does turning this mower seem very awkward? Lastly, this is the 22200 model. Have you done a review for the newer 22210 model?

      Thanks for the info. This model 22200 is old and is kinda weak Kawasaki at 7.3ftlbs. The newer 22210 model on toro's site doesn't show the torque for it's eninge nor does Kawasaki, why?? The TimeMaster has a Briggs/Stratton engine and easily displays it 10 ftlbs of torque. I thought the TurfMaster was for commercial and stronger? Well, thanks for Briggs! I use a Toro Smart Stow 20339. I'm very happy with it. I am considering a 30inch or just jumping to a ride on and use the 20339 for cutting in or small properties.

    A lot of guys seem to recommend the timemaster over the turfmaster !
    Do you know if the timemaster has all the same issues ?

      I wouldnt buy the Timemaster simply because it has a Briggs engine.

    check ur belt tension and make sure the belts not rubbing against the plastic front piece. u have to make the belts on these pretty loose. we used the timemasters for commerical use , for the first 2 years they did great but after that it was junked. u gotta take off the plastic piece then loosenthe metal bracket clamp and when u do, its spring loaded and worked by tension so just make it looser and itlls go away, try it a few times until u get it perfect, ur going to want to make it a little loose .

      sonic knuckels thanks for the comment and. Its funny that you said that cause literally last week me and a friend were working on it trying to figure out that noise and found out it was the belt tensioner. It look a little bit of finding that right spot where I doesn't make that noise and we found it. It also cuts way better now! I was cutting some pretty thick green wet grass yesterday and it cut every blade of grass, were before it would miss so much. Thanks for the comment, I really appreciate it.

      Ambro's Landscaping Inc. lol we used these last year and iwas the guy who fixed all the broken mowers and stuff, ive been fixing lawnmowers and shit since i was like 10, im 24 now . another thing that suck about these is they leave stupid ( mowhawk) cuts and they bog down in 3 inches of grass. anoher thing that sucks is the RPMS that the motor /blades spin at is very slow so what you have to do is take off the govenor spring and cut a few rings out of it then bend another tab and then it will make the engine and blade spin faster..

    First view!! Finally lol. One quick question, on my turfmaster my engine keeps popping and idk why like it will start idle Pop then die

    • @KevinJag
      @KevinJag 9 років тому

      The popping usually is a result of there being too much gas in the carburetor when the engine is off. If it runs, pops, then dies, it may have a choke problem not allowing enough gas into the engine, but floods the carb.

      Kevin Jag that sounds right to me as well. My dealer told me that during transport, the red knob that is connect along your fuel line, to shut that off and it should help the problem.
