Out of everywhere I've searched, you explain the two separate frame rates the most clearly. Haven't heard it explained so simply, and I needed that as someone just diving into the world of cinema cameras. Thank you! Subscribed :)
Something many have not mentioned, is end trigger recording. Has the FX6 got this Jon? It's a good function, as you can press the record button after the action has taken place when shooting in slow motion..
Jon, another con I've found is it doesn't output s&q doesn't output to a monitor. This means if you prefer to have footage recorded on an SSD you still need a card in camera for when you switch over to S&Q. Also, record triggering to HDMI gets switched off the first time you switch to S&Q, even after you switch back to non S&Q. This dropped my ability to trigger several synced Atomos monitors on a multicam shoot, I had to use the monitor record button. One way this could be a benefit, is if you want to record in both S&Q and externally in regular motion, just be sure to trigger recording on the camera and on the external monitor. Then you'll have two options for the footage, one in slowmo and one in regular motion.
Jon! Question from an FX3 user possibly one day upgrading to Fx6 (when rich)... When you explain that it takes 5 to 10 seconds to change the actual frame rate on the Fx6 (not S&Q), does that mean that there is not "Memory" or "Mode" function like on the Fx3? You know, that ability to save 2 different settings and Quickly change between each of them by the press of a button? Also, is it true that when you record in S&Q you cannot (shouldn't) speed up the footage in post in case you change your mind and actually want to use the footage in real time? Ive read somewhere that you're only allowed to do this if changing your actual fps outside the S6Q mode (thus, with sound). Thanks!
Hey! I know exactly what you're talking about. There is not a mode / memory option on the FX6 to my knowledge. You can do whatever you want to the footage in post. When I record 60 fps / 24fps It automatically slows the footage down into a 24p wrapper. You can change the speed 250% which will be normal speed but It will look like a 60p clip being played in 24p which always does look weird. I have never tried this and maybe there is some weird caveat.
Great video John 👏 what for an external monitor do you use? Maybe I will buy the Shinobi 7, but I am not sure 🤔 best cinematic greetings from germany my friend
So I'm new to the film world(well kinda) but shooting film I'm about to get my Sony fx 6 soon an want to be more familiar with my camera. I appreciate the videos was wondering if you could mentor me if so let me know I live in California

Same issue with the Canon, it took me a week to find the switch in the menu.
Good call! Forgot to talk about that. Appreciate the insight!
The eye tracking auto focus works while on s&q mode ??????

great insights in here, thanks for the info!
Thanks brother!!
Going to try the s&q on a7s3! 🙌🏼
Hell yeah!
Great video man! Thx for the info!

Thank you! Small HD 502 is my jam. I prefer a 5 inch monitor with this camera but everyone has their own preference! Atomos is also excellent.
@@jonwaldman94 thanks John 👌 Atomos has a 5 inch shinobi too 😉 why 5 inch? Because of the weight?
Hi, The timecode stops when entering S&Q. Is there a way for it to continue free run? or jump back to where the free run should be?
S&Q screws up timecode sadly. I should probably make a follow up video
Nice tutorial!
Thanks Flo ❤️
Great video!

Excellent
Thanks!!
Hey is it possible to record 4k100/120 not i s&q Mode like on fx3 or a7…
120 fps is S&Q only
Will there be quality loss?
@@GOGETTAVISUALSno but no Sound
wow!
Thanks sam!
In S&Q mode my auto focus did not work. I found that very strange. What do I do wrong there?
That weird. It should work. Were you in a crop mode?
@@jonwaldman94 I have the same issue. My AF doesnt work in S&Q mode unless i reboot the camera
@@jonwaldman94 It was 50 fps so I don't think I put it in crop mode. But is 6 months ago so I don't really know anymore.
