I'm from Louisiana. I never put greens in my gumbo and I won't. I'll put okra in my gumbo. But, if you eat gumbo without rice you can lose weight. I even know of people who have done so for diet purposes.
I’m from Louisiana. While I’m sure this is a delicious dish, it is not gumbo. Its “roux” is not an authentic roux made with oil and flour. Not butter. Not greens. Traditional gumbo is not meant to be a low-cal, low-fat dish as much as I often wish it were.
This isn’t what gumbo is but I’m sure this Turkey soup you made is great.
While this may taste good, it’s not my idea of gumbo.
Strange comments, which may be confusing to readers. Yes, this is a thing. It's called Gumbo Z'Herbes, or Green Gumbo. Yes, it is authentic. It's a standard Lenten meal. It's primarily a New Orleans thing, so perhaps you are from elsewhere in South Louisiana it is not a part of your family's tradition. I'm from Louisiana (south, central and New Orleans), and it is a part of mine. If you are looking for a "regular gumbo" recipe, this is not it. But I love Green Gumbo, and this one looks very tasty.
