@Dave Micolichek If it was a flat roof, the Unimog would be taller. I hope that makes more sense. Wasn't bragging, just trying to put things in perspective :)
Here in Argentina we still use them, the firefighters, the army, civil guard (those from the 60' 70'..) i think in the rest of south america too.. and they still work better than another one new, they are simple, cheap and relievable
And I knew I'd find you. Had to give it a thumbs up for sure. Keep up the hard work man....As soon as I saw James I hit paused and went looking for PaganiGaming....
I always wanted one. Too bad the logistics of having one in the US is absurd. They don't like simple vehicles here. The more problematic and harder to fix (aka forced to take it to the dealership for repairs) the better. It's sad. Nothing here seems to be built to last anymore. I work at Case New Holland Agriculture and we basically buy South Korean tractors to assemble and sell them as "American made" for astounding upcharges. It's sad how things are simply built to fail or be made cheaply as possible.

Also my dad was a cook in the German army and once his friends were out late on field exercise so he stole a Unimog and delivered about 300 liters of soup to that unit. What he told me about it, specifically a version with low range gears making a total of 16 gears, was that it was significantly more difficult to drive than his Golf mk2.

"Never heard of a Unimog"...
Me: literally has 2 in my backyard "Mcxuse me?"
Really? What model/year ? My mentor has a 65 / 404 with the inline 6 gas model.
My Dad has an ex-Army Unimog... with an inbuilt crane behind the cabin!
Just after he bought it, I went to visit I saw it parked on the front lawn & I couldn't stop laughing because it looks so out of place in a residential area & because it is actually taller than the house, the gutters at least.
James Thompson lol my neighbor has one
That's nuts you. You have 2 of one of the only 3 good German vehicles ever made!? And it's not an old school Beetle!?
@Dave Micolichek If it was a flat roof, the Unimog would be taller. I hope that makes more sense. Wasn't bragging, just trying to put things in perspective :)
Everyone in comments: "Never heard of"
Me: Steering that can go from left to righthand drive with the push of a lever🤯
What about the pedals tho?
@@JaredConnell I think the entire stearing column along with the pedals moves together.
On some models you can turn the entire seat & steering backwards. Mercedes were the first who did that, today every good tractor can do that
It’s for if your doing a road trip from Scotland to South Africa
It‘s for road maintenance, like mowing on the side of the road, or street sweeping. Much easier to see what you‘re doing
Me : we are getting a UNIMOG!
My boyfiend : you’re watching donut again aren’t you?
Me : noooooo......yes.
If you’re in USA, you can get a US Army surplus M35 for ~$10k and that’s kinda the same thing.

Here in Argentina we still use them, the firefighters, the army, civil guard (those from the 60' 70'..) i think in the rest of south america too.. and they still work better than another one new, they are simple, cheap and relievable
Day 98 of asking James to do an Up to speed on his Dad
And I knew I'd find you. Had to give it a thumbs up for sure. Keep up the hard work man....As soon as I saw James I hit paused and went looking for PaganiGaming....

"Never heard of the UNIMOG"
I live in Gaggenau, where the Unimog was built from 1951 to 2002.
We have a Museum only for it.
What else should deserve a Museum in Gaggenau. Throwing logs into the river?
I am from Greece and only in my village we have 15 of them 3 406 120 is mine
I live in Germany an we own three Unimog's and it's amazing how you love the unimog. And it's an offroad monster.
@@blakew8357 there is one at auction I am looking to buy, and just now looked them up.
I live in Bavaria, Germany and here everyone knows the Unimog. In Germany it’s just a legend
It's the big brother of the g class and the small brother of the mb Trac
Its the big brother pf practically every truck out there, the only thing that beats it is the zetros
@@thepenman4865 no quite the zetros is a heavy duty hauler for of road but can't be used like the unimog to operate hooked on tools.

everyone else: oh i dunno
Germany: pweeeeeeease
everyone else: oh okay. but u cant use them for your military.

Dont worry, I have the LEGO version so I’m pretty much a genius on the unimog
I have it too, and god damn it's big
How much did it cost you?
Just posted the same comment, still haven't put it together though, I want to make it RC
Sneaky_Krait I did that with a LEGO Technic race car and it worked!

Unimogs are all over Europe. Very dependable, very customisable and versatile attachment platform/tractor, very capable off road.
Mercedes actually still makes spare parts for their first model, since most of them are still in service and they can't tell how long they will last.
Me: I need to go exercise
UA-cam: here’s a new up to speed
Me: Well there goes that
I hope you exercise at home
Never heard of? I guess while the Unimog is climbing over rocks, you’re living under them haha
Could have been the Zetros. That's more uncommonly heard of than this.

I saw it
I was like I only see FOUR wheels James. What the heck bro
'Never hear of the unimog.' I'm pretty sure every car guy in Europe knows what unimog is
Yes I have seen these, in pretty much every country in Europe, being used by civilians, military, firefighters, etc who ever needs a big offroad truck.
But to be fair this channel is american and most of their audience is as well, I think so yea.
spekkel 1 I’ve seen one once at a careers fair and I think it was for military or emergency things. I have read about them though, and seen them in forza
Most of the military buffs in the States know it exists too, just not the friggen range of their capabilities.
UNIMOG stands for UNIversal-MOtor-Gerät and it translates into something like universal-engine-tool/device
Sanks fo ze advice Hans
They do most snow plowing in my hometown, the plowing that the multicars can't do and what's too little to break out a John Deere is done by the Unimog.
James, ur weight loss seems to be going strong! Keep it up buddy!
Damn its inspiring, he looks like a new man.
13:05 Hey! My country! Greetings from Chile!
“ Massive truck you never heard of “ me : I heard it in Forza Horizon 4
We need an AMG version of this...with maybe an increased top speed of...wait for it...100MPH!!!
I love this show and I love the Unimog. I am from Chile and every once in a while the Army would sell their obsolete Unimogs. I knew a guy who drove around in one, but he used it mostly for adventure tours to the desert.
Someone at my school drives a blue one of these school everyday
That's fucking badass
What country?

Don’t mess with him, or else he’ll climb over your car!
THW?
“You’ve never heard of”?
A Unimog drove past me on a suburban road in Melbourne, Australia.
The US Army has some, they call them "C trucks" so unimogs were technically sold in the US.
There is one that drives around the Werribee south roads servicing vegetable farms spraying chemicals
Even Australian Army has them
-TJ- where did you happen to see it?
Those beasts are capable machines indeed !!!! I lived in Germany for 8 years and i saw them in action so i can tell you first hand , it is the best vehicle you could possibly use for keeping a town and the area all around clean from weeds , snow , mud , garbages, electric grid supply plus you will find it hard to find terrain not accessable with it . I think it's the best tool for a big variety of heavy duty jobs
