I love how the first half of this video is listing the bare minimum features like coming with a cable to plug it into a wall socket and an audio jack so you can plug in any kind of dumb device. Most devices now don't even bother with any of this. I have an alarm clock that's probably 5 years old now with similar features like keeping time after power out, a line in and multiple alarms with weekday awareness. It's also toggle-able between 24-hour and 12-hour time, I could go on. It's survived multiple moves and the only sign of wear is the buttons become unresponsive if it's not touched for several months. The plastic housing is thick enough that it feels like a brick and it has survived countless falls off my bedside table onto hard floors with no cracks. It also has a visually interesting shape with some curves and a stylized speaker grill. It's going to last me a lifetime and this is saying a lot - It's very comfortable to use, I feel fortunate to have it in my life so long. Unfortunately, I've delegated my alarms to my mobile phone because of random personal idiosyncracies, so for the time being, it's my reliable wall clock on a shelf. The best alarm clock is the one I downloaded on my phone in 2014. It uses your phone’s flashlight and shuffles a different song off of my iTunes account (remember ACTUALLY BUYING MUSIC DIGITALLY but not on Bandcamp?!) every work day! It even eases you into the music by slowly turning up that volume along with the light’s brightness before the on-off strobing started! Less intrusive, I got to listen to songs from albums I bought but never listened to all the way, and I didn’t wake up all stressed out all the time! But this Alarm Clock you got here is one cool doodad!
This made me remember that me and my brother had Sony cd player clocks when we were younger. His always had this beautifully sounding bedtime with the Beatles cd that he always played to fall asleep. Just became background noise at nighttime. Thanks for unlocking that memory for me. ^_^
Damn I had to change PC cases lately and now I dont have all of the fans connected to the PC so whenever I turn it on I get the energy star logo and a screen that warns me. Whats also cool is that it beeps through the PC speaker and I was shocked to find out my PC even had one in this day and age. So seeing the wall of text at 3:37 hit hard lol.
I found a sony dream machine icf-cl75ip a few months back, and by the sight of it on the thrift store shelf, my mind immediately went "Ooooh, a Sony device? It's an alarm clock? IT HAS CUSTOM BACKGROUNDS? I'm taking it!" After exploring it for a bit, I fell in love with the nostalgic feel of the clock having a similar theme to the PSP, plus getting a $10 iPod touch for better music control
Ok, 2nd video in after seeing the video Prime watched... I'm sold. Great content. Just has the energy I've missed when mentioning about things we never had to pay extra for.
I know I said this a few videos ago, but as someone who's been watching your videos for years, this new format you have going is absolutely incredible! I could watch you talk about a 15 year old alarm clock for hours. Keep the funny obscure tech vids coming!
Okay, so, I came back to say I bought one of these about 2 weeks after this video (I got the same model but without the CD functionality called icf-c7ip) This thing is an absolute lifesaver, I just this morning had a power outage and nothing was on, not even the lights but my alarm beeper went off??? It turns out if you have the backup battery installed it will beep the buzzer at the right time even though it looks to be dead Still got me up for work and on time for my bus, fucking brilliant Thank you f4mi for telling me to buy something I didn't think I needed but now adore
3:39 Honestly, up until about a year ago i didn't realise bioses were graphical and actually had boot logos cuz i've been tinkering with mostly laptops and pcs from 2010.
I have a black sony cube clock that glows orange, but it's just AM and FM, plus it requires a 9V backup battery instead of a button cell. I have a radio station that I like enough that I don't care enough about other audio inputs when I am going to sleep or waking up. When I am up, I just use a different device. My favourite feature is the sleep mode, where it plays radio for 30, 60, or 90 minutes and then shuts off automatically.
I have a Dream Machine from 2012 with no CD player, but the iPod dock uses a Lightning connector instead of 30-pin and it still works with my iPhone to this very day. Fall asleep to podcasts using the sleep timer and wake up to the radio using the alarm. And it charges your phone overnight 😎
The delay you get when you use a newer speaker, like for example the mentioned UE Boom 2 comes from them doing DSP based EQ inside, they usually digitize the signal, feed it into a couple filters to compensate for either the speakers resonance or it's lackluster low frequency response (can't easily beat physics with small drivers :P)
I have an ICF-CS10iP which has an iPod dock, no CD player, but it has aux in. Also has a radio and stereo sound, and you can dim the brightness of the screen to where it doesn't blind you when you're trying to sleep. By far the best clock I've ever owned!
I’m a big fan of retrofitting technology. I recently took a yard sale Panasonic crt, hooked it up to a vhs player, hooked that up to an amp, and hooked that up to speakers from an old boombox adapted to have an rca connection. It’s great for NES Tetris and other retro games, but I’ve recently fallen in love with using the UA-cam app on my ps3 and casting from my iPad as a way to enjoy music and such. Anywho, nice video, very cool.
The JBL Horizon series seems to pick up where this left off!No CD's but it Has USB Ports, Aux In, Bluetooth and a Ring light thing that faces away from you and lights up smoothly with your alarms. Perfect for bedside synth jams

This genuinely convinced me to buy a dream machine from goodwill. It's not the one featured in this video, but it's still super cool. I've been wanting a CD player and I have trouble waking up in the morning so it's a win win
I love your sense of humor and now I have tragedy struck down town this morning autoplaying in my head as a meltdown song. So glad I stumbled onto your channel. Keep up the great work!
I had one as a kid and when u revealed the cd drive I literally froze as I don’t remember being able to do that… Turns out mine was just iPod/radio combo, geez Awesome video as always!
hello 3:26AM f4mi, I appreciate that page of text. The tone of the beep that goes with that logo immediately brings me comfort and happiness, despite just being a little PC speaker single-tone square wave thing.
99% sure this video was recommended to me and someone else at the same time because I went to an ebay listing for the item, clicked back to the video, and then when I tried to purchase it, the item sold exactly one minute before I wanted to grab it. RIP
I had one of these. Probably still do somewhere. My biggest issue with it is that the screen, even on the lowest brightness, is WAY too bright for an alarm clock. Like you could probably read a book off it if you let your eyes adjust first. There is a reason you turn the lights off when you are going to bed.
Whoa, that's so weird. All I Want by the Offspring has been my morning alarm for years. I have to get up at 4 AM for work, so I needed something loud and aggressive.
I wonder if after a full calendar year, it would slowly creep faster until it was 15 minutes ahead and then mysteriously stop like the current Sony alarm clock I have.

do NOT let this girl get her hands on a net yaroze, she WILL create eldritch beings for the playstation 1
This genuinely convinced me to buy a dream machine from goodwill. It's not the one featured in this video, but it's still super cool. I've been wanting a CD player and I have trouble waking up in the morning so it's a win win
"I really would like a Net Yarozee" is such a niche reference and i love it
After watching your videos I have bought both a Sony dream machine and a harmony remote and am loving both of them 😻😻
I love your sense of humor and now I have tragedy struck down town this morning autoplaying in my head as a meltdown song. So glad I stumbled onto your channel. Keep up the great work!
I had one as a kid and when u revealed the cd drive I literally froze as I don’t remember being able to do that… Turns out mine was just iPod/radio combo, geez
Awesome video as always!
fwiw, your bios rant made me smile
If my alarm clock screamed YEAH YEAH YEAH at me I’d throw it out the window and clean up the broken glass later. Great video as always!
Music 2000 voice sample lol hits hard. Like that two planes.
Oh good god the audio delay is coming from my ue boom 2??? that's terrifying. Thank you so much
Amazing video and great jokes in between!
IBS and CBT sounds like a killer combo...
I don't think i can stomach it, don't got the balls for it.
I saw the thumbnail and i was literally like "WHEATLEY ALARM CLOCK?!?!?!"
These videos are actually really interesting and so good! Keep it up! (Also I’d love to see a Dreamcast video, that would be so cool!)
This channel is the embodiment of original UA-cam culture
9:57 had no business going that hard
hello 3:26AM f4mi, I appreciate that page of text. The tone of the beep that goes with that logo immediately brings me comfort and happiness, despite just being a little PC speaker single-tone square wave thing.
I started listening to that TD-3 jam and next thing I know I'm playing Jet Set Radio for a moment.
I discovered your channel recently (that was a homebrew channel cap on twitter xd) and BINGEWATCHED EVERY SINGLE VIDEO.
Keep it up
I didn't think a video about an alarm clock was going to be the most interesting piece of media I've seen all week but here we are
99% sure this video was recommended to me and someone else at the same time because I went to an ebay listing for the item, clicked back to the video, and then when I tried to purchase it, the item sold exactly one minute before I wanted to grab it. RIP
OMFG the harmony remote, i still use mine every day!
